Going to look at a Taxi tomorrow. I've kinda wanted one for a while, but they are always beat to snot. This one looks nice... HUO since 1993. I'm sure it's dirty, but the playfield looks pretty good based on what I can tell from the pictures. Unfortunately it's a Lola, but the cab looks pretty decent with a few scuffs and it has the topper. So what do you guys think it's worth?

#2 12 years ago

First off, taxi is a hellava game. Never gets old. My buddies love it.

The whole Lola/Marilyn thing is overrated.. I wouldn't pay any attention to it.

I would say it's worth around $1000 depending on condition.. maybe more as it hasn't been on route for awhile.

Look around the pop bumpers and the santa target for wear. Also there is usually wear on the inlane decals where the ball is returned from the wire ramps. If this wear isn't really present, grab it!

Honestly, if it's in nice shape and you're not too worried about price, get it. Taxi will always be in my collection.

If there wear just put up with it becase CPR is releasing a Taxi Playfield.

"If there wear just put up with it becase CPR is releasing a Taxi Playfield."

I'd rather get one that doesn't need a CPR playfield and save the $600.

#5 12 years ago

Hard to say without pictures, but if the playfield has no wear and the ramps and spinout are not cracked, I would be willing to pay more than $1000. No one is currently making the ramps or the spinout assembly. Maybe after the CPR playfields come out someone will.

Pinball Inc makes the Departure ramp and although its listed Out of Stock they always seem to have them at the shows. Its great when CPR makes a playfield because it prompts other manufacturers to re-run other parts such as ramps and decals. And yes it would make sense to offset the price just by purchasing a decent Taxi with a nice playfield but a repro playfield will have better colors and play because of the clearcoat.

#7 12 years ago

For me the new playfield repro isn't an option. Just not comfortable enough to swap them.

Plus they're not cheap.

Just buy the thing regardless. It's a fun pin.

Gonfisn, post some pics. Taxi is one of my shortlist games too.

Hi,

I'm guessing around $1k also for a HUO with no issues. Run a switch and coil test, pay attention to the two 3 target opto-banks, if they are original I wouldn't be surprised if they need attention. Post up pics, fun game

Taxi is a neat game. The theme didn't get me excited at first, but it's just such a solid player.

"post some pics"

He took the ad down, so I don't have access to them anymore. Taxi is one of my favorites on The Williams Collection, plus it's one of the few pins I actually remember playing as a teenager (wasn't much of a pinhead then... more into arcades).

Also, it'd match my truck nicely!

I love Taxi as a kid. I played it later on in my teens and thought "WTF was I thinking??"

Now, in my elder years, I can't seem to get enough of it. I play the heck out of it on my xbox when I'm not playing it in the wild, as I don't own one... yet.

#13 11 years ago

I picked up a Taxi last month for $991 off of Ebay. It was a Marilyn and was in decent shape. Both of my ramps were busted and am working on getting new ones once they are released. I just got a email from Pinball Inc in regards to when ramps will be available:

"Yes, we've made the first form and now we're working on the programming to cut them out. This is the step that takes the longest as we build a cut fixture, program, cut and then test fit. Then make any changes and test fit again. Once the fit is good then we test run it to make sure the performance is good."

I love my Taxi! I just wish someone would repro the Spinout ramp

#15 11 years ago

I thought that pinball inc had all of the original bally/williams dies.

#16 11 years ago

I like taxi but i think it's a tad overated, to be honest. My buddies and i always used to play rollergames and even police force more when they were in the same arcade. I would think it would get old in a collection that already has fish tales.

#17 11 years ago

I'm liking PF more and more everyday that I have it. And I got it for my kid!

#18 11 years ago

That ended up being a waste of time. The playfield was shot. Raised inserts, wear around the pops and ball swirl marks everywhere. Plus someone replaced the slingshot plastics with some from another game (I think maybe F-14) and the rubber was rotting off of it. The ramps were semi-decent (small cracks in the right one), but it needed a new playfield and a lot of TLC for sure. The owner wouldn't budge from $1200, so don't waste your time on this one.

#19 11 years ago

$300-$400 tops sounds like.

Sorry man. Sucks getting pumped up etc.

#20 11 years ago

That sucks. Wonder what kind of medication he was on to think its worth $1200 in that condition.

#21 11 years ago

Because that's what he paid for it 15 years ago.

#22 11 years ago

I often find it funny that usually pics look decent, but then in person things are much different.

I always ask for pics honing in on the spots of wear on the playfield.

#23 11 years ago

It is amazing how beat up some pins can get in a home environment. HUO does not mean perfect playfield, no broken plastics, all boards working, and zero fade on the cabinet.

wow, that's kinda low even for that kinda shape. I was thinking more like $600

This guy was not a pinhead though. I doubt he even knows what a playfield is. I asked him if any of the ramps were cracked and he sent me a blurry video. Not a big deal... we had a great lunch in Richmond and stopped in Williamsburg on the way back. Kids had a good time.

Taxi is in its own cat. Fun to play to take you to the 90's. Fast simple fun. No ball save on sys 11 kind of suck but that was the era.

The theme music is my top 3.
