TRON Premium would cause more of a headache for Stern than it is worth. They would lose future LE buyers at a rate that would not be worth the 100 buyers of a Premium. Enough.

Quoted from vex:

there will always be plenty of le buyers for the latest nib, that will never change as long as suckers exist. a premium is not an le so where is this perceived headache? if counting money induces a headache you might have a point.
i have zero interest in anything tron.

*sigh*

If Stern wants to alienate the buyers of its top line of machines by offering LEs with exclusive features, only to turn around in a few years and put those features on a new edition, then they will find themselves with fewer buyers for their "exclusive" editions up front. Did Jack get a headache with the Ruby Red announcement? Of course he did, and that was on a game "limited" to 1000 without real exclusive features and that wasn't even to market yet. If Stern puts LE ramps on a new TRON edition, they will get massive backlash from the 400 LE buyers that did so because it was limited. They won't sell enough "premium" vault editions to make the potential market alienation and buyer loss worth it.

Your perception of who is and who are not "suckers" has no bearing in this argument - other than to give you an opportunity to kick someone in the nuts. Feel good now?

Quoted from Mr68:

Never under estimate the public's desire to purchase the newest shinny thing.

If they are already having problems selling out recent LE titles (or at least seeing distributors sitting on them for years), they can't afford even a few sales lost for something trivial.

Ok, then everyone that was erked by the Ruby Red thing were in the wrong, too. What a wonderful, idealistic world you have carved out for us. Tell me how that goes.

Obtuse just to be obtuse. How neat!

There were already ACDC Premiums made! How can you not see that difference. When there is an LE and a Premium announced up front, then no one has the right to complain about a full-featured game release down the line. But when the choice from the start is LE with full feature or Pro with lesser, then the line is drawn and the decision set. To retroactively come back and offer a new full featured machine, that was not made available to those opting for the LE a the start of production, is something completely different. This is not rocket science.

Quoted from vex:

didn't sm and lotr make le's available after the initial release? the precedent was set years ago, why would stern behave differently now?

Jesus H. Christ. We need a logic professor for this, apparently. There was no LE available at the beginning of SM or LOTR production. No one was offered, or persuaded, to buy a SM or LOTR LE up front in order to get the game with the premium features. There were no premium playfield features or toys offered on LOTR or SM LE packages, either. Maybe people were irked by the move down the line, but it is not anything analogous to selling TRON LE with LE features and TRON Pro without LE features, selling out of the LEs, then years later going back and taking the LE features and creating a Premium that features the LE stuff that got people to commit to the LE in the first place.

It would be perceived as such, and thus too dangerous of a game for Stern to play with their LE buyers.

I haven't seen a word from that dude in two years. Why does anyone?
