A contest is a horrible idea. That's asking professional artists to work for free, and MAYBE have their work used. That's bullshit, artists hate it...it's condescending and devalues their craft.
All studios have product licensing protocols - most have "style guides". You generally have to use the style guides unless it's a situation like Metallica - where they wanted Dirty Donny to do 100% original artwork.
