Wife is telling me only one more machine for a while, looking for a third, have a mousin and am picking up a taxi in two weeks. Do I go for the Dr Dude or hold off save some money and try to find a whirlwind in the 2000-2500 range? And does anyone have a whirlwind in that range?

    #2 6 years ago

Some people love Dr. Dude, I think it's okay. But if the choice is that or Whirlwind, it's Whirlwind all day.

I would hold out for Whirlwind. You should be able to get a nice player for $2500.

    #4 6 years ago

    Whirlwind.....I can't stand Dr.Dude. That's just my personal taste.

    #5 6 years ago

Whirlwind is a badass game. Probably the best System 11. If you can, hold out. It'll be worth it.

    #6 6 years ago

I'd say hold off and find a WW, but they're not easy to find in the 2-2500k range. Definitely would be a "player" machine as woody76 stated. WW is much better than Dr Dude IMO<<<<

    #7 6 years ago

Yeah 2500 is most likely the bottom these days. Buddy just sold a players one for $2600 and it sold in aboot 30 minutes.
It's obviously light years ahead of Dr Dude in playing....although Dr Dude is a more 'fun' guy.

Yea, $2500 would for sure be bottom if you can even find one. They seem to not come up very often anymore.

I wonder what men in the 1950's/60's would think if they could see into the future and read threads like this.

    #10 6 years ago

Damn. I thought there would be pictures.

    #12 6 years ago

Dr. Dude is a great looking Pin IMHO. Probably the best looking of the 3 I own. It was my first pin years back and I bought it cheap and in relatively rough condition and fixed most of it. Still the game play is not all that exciting. My biggest issue with it is you basically are playing with half a playfield and not really much in the way of multiball.

Whirlwind would be a better choice. Does it have to be a system 11? Otherwise maybe look for a WCS94. I don't care what anyone says about the theme, that game is a buttload of fun to play. I didn't even want to play it and my 8 year old made me and we had a blast.

I picked up a HUO one-owner Whirlwind in December. They are out there....

That is a pretty machine. I emailed the guy in Austin I’ll see what he says if he could hold it or ship it I may go after it.

    #19 6 years ago

Tell the wife that a pinball machine isn’t like throwing money away, it’s like money in the bank. Buy dr dude and play it until you find a nice replacement.

    #20 6 years ago

Whirlwind and its not even close.

I'm I the only one who is curious what his wife put her heels down on?

    Yes you’re the only one.

    What a score. Congratz!

    #24 6 years ago

I will leave it alone where she put her heels. I did talk her into letting me get a whirlwind if it’s under 2600. Then I have to hold steady.....so if you all know of anyone let me know.

    #25 6 years ago

They are out there. I picked up a nice DiamondPlate Whirlwind for $2500 about six months ago but it got so boring I sold it back to the guy.

Huh. I'm surprised to hear you say that since you love Earthshaker so much. What did you not like about it compared to Earthshaker?

It was sitting next to it.

Earthshaker is still here though, going on two years strong!

You guys know of a shipper from Texas to Atlanta?

Wait.... you still own EM machines and sold whirlwind?!?! Lol. Just playing. I know it’s all personal preference. Whirlwind is a keeper for me. I’ve had two earthshakers. Cool game. It sat next to whirlwind both times. It left and whirlwind remained. But I’d buy it again also.

    #30 6 years ago

    Go for the Whirlwind.

    #31 6 years ago

The old " wife price break" grift...

    #32 6 years ago

I peaked at your collection and wishlist and if I were in your situation I would pickup Whirlwind, then sell Mousin and Gorgar, buy a JP and then eventually sell Taxi to help pay for WH20. Thats just me but it keeps you with 3.

    Sti/navl

    #34 6 years ago

I’d offer to go and check out the Austin WW for you, but I’d have no idea what I would be looking for.

I’m new here and have no experience with pin ownership as one might guess.

    #35 6 years ago

Would sti most likely be less than 400? Does sti pack?

    #36 6 years ago

I’m clearly in the minority here, but I prefer Dr Dude.

I’ve got all the Sys11 games and Dr Dude is one of my favourites.

We’ve been talking about our “5 keepers” if we quit the collection ... and Dr Dude would probably be on my list. And I’ve had that game for 12-13 years. I play it every time I’m at the house. Including about 10 games today.

    Why?

    - simple, addictive game play. Same as Iron Man. Simple to understand, hard to master. Machine can be set up brutal.
    - cool 80s theme
    - cool music
    - cool artwork

    My 10c.
