I agree with the others who have mentioned TOTAN:

1. Change ruby award choices so that you can never collect two jewels. This should be removed completely from the game and replaced with a random item that is pretty good (light locks, 15 lamps or 3x bonus, 3 tiger loops etc.)
2. Add more difficulty (more hits required) to modes cyclops, Rox, and mabye flying carpet - adjustable in adjustments.
3. Fix exploit with Harem and genie battle.

Aside from the genie exploit, these appear to be pretty basic (easy?) fixes to implement.

It would be REALLY nice to add something to the modes that are just "go for the golden symbols," but that's probably asking for too much!

At worst, the saved balls will back up into the shooter lane. At best, a player could exploit that by intentionally allowing the balls to drain and then plunge single balls - playing multi ball modes with essentially one ball in play at a time.
Maybe you could come up with some weird rule that if there is a "saved" ball in the shooter lane then no other switches will score points or something (and try to explain that to a newbie player somehow), but there are probably ways to exploit that in some way too.
Obviously, in single ball play, there can be ball saves without an auto-plunger. Almost every SS machine made would essentially "ball save" if you scored zero points on a ball. Multi-ball is a different situation.
And if you notice, with your example of Whitewater, the ball save from the home ROM does not work in multi-ball. As soren said, the standard was to do a multi-ball "restart" mode - which is what Whitewater does.

TOTAN does this well when battling the Genie.

STTNG:

Stop the mode clock on trap - most important
Provide option to disable video mode. Auto 25 mil or have Riker poker as the other option.
Fix the left lock rules and functionality. Left lock should be available only for lock one, but always. Locks are tough, so making the first easier would balance.
Provide meaningful rewards for launch probe and flipper skillshot

Then the machine was out in public locations, getting lots of plays was what made money, turnover. The more time someone was playing a single game for a quarter, the less money was being generated.
In a HOME environment, this completely different. With additional mods like adding the Lasers, which are fun to see. OR an inexperienced player doesn't even have time to use the cannons. Two digits of code to change the time. Of course menu selection and stuff would be fantastic, however something basic would make the game way better.
Who wouldn't want more time to aim??? Nobody.

What exactly is hard here? Knowing that you have to fire the cannon on the first two passes (back and forth)? I'm confused. How is this hard? You'd maybe miss it once if you were too slow (mentally and physically) to shoot the ball. Am I missing something?

The menu gives you presets and selections to change the difficulty of the game play, so if you're really good, change those....An adjustment to the length of time to extend the Cannon Shoot time is NOT a new feature, it SHOULD be a setting. (you can turn them off if broke, right). Adding a SETTING is worth doing for LESS experienced players (not referring to me) but family members who decide to enjoy family time.
Game Scores being wrong, heck yeah, fix all of that.. Honestly haven't looked into that, as I am not in competition with anyone.
Anyone ever wonder why the DATA EAST Star Wars has a T-Bar and Button for the launcher?? IT DOES NOTHING. It was for a feature never completed in the program, but it was in the build design and put on the machine. Worthless. Talked the programmer himself. That is a real complaint for a feature never upgraded in the ROMS.
Do you know some Demolition Man machines are suppose to give you higher scores using the handles? Maybe. Not always.
Embrace the diverse suggestions from the diverse people all embracing something great, Pinball, which nearly 10 years ago, died. Feeling of running a person down for suggestions, or saying they are worthless, is a bit selfish.... But I guess we all are sometimes.

We're merely pointing out that you're requesting an arbitrary change. Clearly you're not a coder. It's not like Soren just flicks a switch and changes are made, especially on old hardware. The cannon timing is a non issue to most. You're just going to have to live with that. Sorry. Not hating. Just being honest. I'd rather he focus his energy elsewhere.

I'd much rather see all video modes except Shadow's disappear. I play poker ever time on sttng. The video mode is just boring repetition. Wish you had a choice on Dr who like that.
