Quoted from Tywest:I see a few posts about the load out and how smooth it was. I will respectfully dispute that. It likely went “smooth” this time because there was no snow or blizzard to deal with.
I was the first one to get a dock pass. Only to get to the dock just after 5 to find around 10 vehicles in front of me that didn’t have passes. They all went up. 20 + minutes of sitting in the street.
Then let’s try and get some trailers in the hall, good grief. Looked like the Austin Powers cart scene. No one checked to make sure I was even taking the game I own. They were all busy trying to unass the vehicles.
Maybe some type of staggered pre arranged load out would be better than the free for all cluster that always seem to happen.
There honestly is no benefit to bringing games. Other than help making the show happen I guess. It’s more hassle than it’s worth. It seem like profits are more important these days. May as well just buy the VIG pass and go to all the cool stuff. The “game bringer” after party is nothing like it use to be…
Not trying to be all negative here but some things need attention. Overall the vendor games were plentiful and fun to play.
So first, sorry you didn't like the show. Yours is one of the only negative comments I've read, so maybe our vibe just isn't the right one for you, and if not, that's okay! There are lots of other great shows, and if you're looking for just pinball, Expo was just before us and might have scratched that itch better.
I want to kindly dispute your dock complaints though. I ran the load in of the dock until we broke the line. We knew that at 5pm, there would be a short period where the Wisconsin Center would have to pull the walls, electricity, clamp shut the electrical boxes, and open the gates to let people in. This took about 15 minutes. At the same time, we had an issue where yes, a number of people left without getting a ticket. So I personally verified with them if their game was broken down or not, and if it was I sent them in. If it was not, I sent them to the wall to go break it down.
At the same time, we kept expanding our internal space to park more vehicles, exactly as designed. By 530, we were nearly at the expected capacity. By 545, people were reporting to me it was 8 minutes in line to get to me, and about 10 to get inside. It never went higher.
Would it have worked as well in the snow? No, but it wouldn't have been far off. I parked about 10 cars total outside. My guess would have been snow would have extended the line by 5 or so minutes based on how rarely that happened.
By 630 there was no line left. Period. No dock line, no line to get in.
By 815, every individual game holder and every individual vendor in the vendor hall was loaded out and gone.
Again, if that isn't good enough, I apologize, but we thought that for loading out in excess of 200 vehicles, 3 hours was pretty damn good.
As for your comments about how we're all about profit and don't care about Game bringers, from a guy who hasn't deposited a check since June to try to keep the show going and whose full time job is the show, I'll simply say... Sorry again. Almost everyone else seemed to feel otherwise that I spoke with.
I'm pretty comfortable with where the show is at, and I hope we can continue it that way. I put more than 60 hours a week into this thing for almost three years, as my full time job, and not depositing my checks for months at a time to ensure we could pull it through. We had help from hundreds of people who wanted to come out and make something special. And I'd argue we did.
I hope more people want to step up to do that. And if not, if we don't do enough, I can go make more money working at a job paying 20 an hour with a lot less hours, and that's fine too. From what I saw this weekend though, I think we'll be doing this for a long, long time.
