I'm looking to buy a NIB or HUO Tron Pro in the coming weeks and I'm curious what the differences are between the first run and latest run versions. Is the silkscreened cabinet more detailed or better looking than the newer decaled cabinet? Any other major improvements/enhancements since the original run? Looks like an amazing game and I can't wait to get my hands on one and start modding it out!

Thanks guys. So is the first-run silkscreened cabinet of higher quality and less grainy/pixelated than the later decaled units? I'm not clear on whether the older or newer run Trons are more desirable. That extra post, sharper playfield, pre-drilled shaker hole comments have me leaning toward purchasing a newer Tron but the cabinet art quality is a major deciding factor for me if there's a noticeable difference between the original and later runs. Is there a list somewhere that documents the changes between the years? I remember seeing something about DMD changes as well. I owned a number of NIB and HUO Sterns in the past (LOTR, TSPP, POTC, FG, Sopranos, WPT) and the pixilation on the cab and playfield was terrible on some of them, so if there are cab/playfield quality differences between the runs, I'd really like to know what they are.

I'm definitely going to add this game to the herd soon and can't wait to bring Tron home!

Quoted from QuarterGrabber:

- The first run came with a cool 3D translite.
- I think the first run came with a orange plasma dot display like the older machines, the later runs came with a red led screen which sucks IMO because they paste together a bunch of little 4x8 dot boards which cause big black lines all over the display. I prefer the old plasma styles uniformity.
- The Playfields were sharper on the later runs.
- Artwork stayed the same through the runs

Thanks Centerflank and QuarterGrabber. If the playfields are sharper on the later runs and there isn't any discernible difference between the decaled and silkscreened cabinets, then I'm going to look for a later run unit. The translite and DMD can be changed out easily enough.

Quoted from Captive_Ball:

Dark, believe there are a few small differences, but not much....heard something about a post near the bumpers had changed on the newer run...someone else that actually owns one will have to chime in with furhter info. FYI there is a NIB on the market for 5.3K and a modded out one for 6.1k from Hwawonyu too. Can't go wrong either way. Just do it!

Could you PM or e-mail me the contact info for the seller with the $5.3K NIB Tron? Is there an ad or post for the modded one? E-mail is [email protected]. Thanks.

I should have my NIB Tron Pro from the last run of 200 next week. Getting seriously pumped! Which leg protectors, mirror balls and Cliffy + ramp protectors are "must have" items before I launch the first ball? I've been out of the mod scene for a while and haven't purchased a new pin in a few years. I already know this game is going to get heavily pimped/modded

Quoted from Erik:

a minimum mylar at the shooter lane with cliffy, and mantis or cliffy at the scoop. I have cliffies on the ramps but has anyone broken a ramp on this game? I have been tempted to remove them

OK, will get all this stuff ordered from PinBits stat. They are within driving distance from me. Does anyone sell precut mylar strips these days? I guess my game has the red DMD and chicks translite. Can't wait to unbox this baby

My NIB Tron 4th run arrived yesterday and we got it setup and moved into the game room. It's a gorgeous game and my buddy and I played a dozen games or so on it. First impressions are that it is a kick-ass player's game with great flow and some very difficult shots that gets the blood pumping and keeps players coming back for more. This is my kind of pin and Tron is definitely a keeper. I have it setup right next to Shadow and BSD, my other two punisher titles

I installed mirror balls and set the pitch to 6.5 and holy @$#%&! this game plays fast! The ball actually smacked the glass hard in one game which was a bit scary. Best score was 91M and I reached Sea of Simulation in that game. Very cool mode. This game will be modded out in the coming months, so it will only get better. The factory speakers sound like crap so a FF system will be one of the first mods. The lighting is also weak, so an LED kit is also at the top of the list. I disabled that right-upper loop post that kills the flow in the game. Plays much better now.

Does anyone know if there will be any further software updates for Tron? Mine is at v1.74 with system 1.63. It sure would be nice to add/unlock Daft Punk mode on the Pro at some point. One can hope...

Here are a few pics I snapped off before we moved it into the house.

And pics added after moving into the game room. Let the modding begin!

Does anyone have a link to download the Pinball Browser sound update ROM file like the one retro_p shared a year ago? I bought my Pro NIB and it hasn't been getting any love lately, I'd like to try a music refresh to see if I can get back into this game. Or if someone has a newer .bin file with "must have" sounds and music, please PM me. Thanks.

Thanks flynnsbit, much appreciated! If anyone has the .bin file that retro_p compiled, I'd really like to load and try that mix out too.
