I'm still in a bit of shock from how much I'm paying for this, considering my previous largest outlay was $3200 for World Cup Soccer, but Tron is a pin I've really, really wanted and I think I got a pretty nice one. Now I just need some damn cooperative weather so I can go get it!

Yeah, seemed a bit...odd... to me, also. Picking mine up Sunday!
Paid 7.6k for mine. A bit more than I wanted but that's okay. Got it from a good friend and I like the provenance.
Waiting for it to warm up so I can finally play it. It's been sitting in 25-30 degree temps in my truck for 10+ hours. But it's in my dining room now...it's going to be disassembled in order to go downstairs.
20210110_211447 (resized).jpgreceived_1043900082788442 (resized).jpeg9000 for any pro seems like quite the reach. I wouldn't jump at that unless you're just made of money and don't care.
Honestly I bought this without having ever played. I watched videos, sure, but that's it. I just really love tron.
My problem with a lot of modern games is that I feel overwhelmed with modes and tangled messes of rules to try and follow. Tron of course has some depth to it compared to the sys11/early WPC games I'm used to but I don't think it'll be overwhelming. I struggled with being willing to pay 7+ for a tron for quite a while but in the end I'm happy with my choice. It's a blast... even if it is absolutely eating my lunch thus far! Glad the games are free...
I'll eventually do powder stuff to mine. Most other mods are already done, although the arcade game isn't quite working right. The 'monitor' isn't lighting up like it's supposed to. Some other light on it does work. My friend said its supposedly a super common thing that just needs solder touched up. Haven't investigated yet, still busy letting it kick my ass. Well that and I'm tearing apart a cyclone for someone.
Pink spotlights / pink left GI / blue right GI undone. I left the blue GI in the far back and the blue/white at the flippers. The game is still kicking my ass, lmao. You guys who are great at this machine are faaaaar better than I will probably ever be.
I'll probably try messing with the arcade this weekend to see if I can fix it. The monitor picture is just a static image that flashes on when triggered, right?
20210111_200844 (resized).jpgOh and I don't know much about these but my blue one doesn't seem to allow much of ANY light through, no matter how bright a bulb I try. The bulb seems plenty bright before I put the cap down but it just doesn't shine through very well. Anyone else running this mod? How does yours look?
20210111_201407 (resized).jpgQuoted from Saltimbanco:What do you mean?
Well I don't know, I think I saw stills from the actual arcade game when I watched videos but I'm not sure. Mine lights up the stick on the cabinet... just nothing on the monitor.
Quoted from Saltimbanco:No, it's the actual game playing on the OLED..
Oh my. I really do need to get that fixed. That's far cooler than I thought.
Quoted from Tsunami:What led lights are you using? I went to hooked on pinball and got my pop bumper led and I’m happy with them.
https://www.hookedonpinball.com/store/p44/Pinball-Mod-Custom-LED-PAD-555-6v.html
I think it had cointaker clear 2smd. I tried a comet 2smd which is usually just fine. Maybe I need to order some of those.
//edit
Just pulled the yellow cap and it's using one of these. Not sure why the blue isn't... but I'll order another one and change it out. Thanks for the link.
Unless I'm not following something that cable appears to connect to a pair of blue wires that run all the way to the head and splice into the factory loom (with a molex) on the left. I did see two other plugs around here under the playfield and those looked okay.
What controls the led flash vs the oled screen?
This thing isn't supposed to disassemble in any way, I'm guessing? The whole thing is just caked in glue from all sides. I can't actually get to that board to do anything.
Quoted from Saltimbanco:Well, if it's only hot glue, you'll be fine. If it has screws on each side, it should all disassemble. The decals can be carefully peeled of, they're vinyl.
See full built instructions, thou there's 3-4 versions of the cabinet. Go at around 40 minutes for connecting instructions
Also, see attached original instructions (thou, it doesn't say much). But the vid will help![quoted image]
Thank you!
Finally just gave in and pulled the damn thing. There's certainly a TON of glue all over this, and I can't even unplug it because it's glued in place. I'm assuming that's the likely culprit but in order to confirm the board has what it needs do I just test the plug for power? What's the voltage supposed to be?
20210112_095057 (resized).jpg20210112_095059 (resized).jpg20210112_095102 (resized).jpg20210112_095108 (resized).jpg20210112_095112 (resized).jpg20210112_095116 (resized).jpg20210112_095153 (resized).jpgQuoted from djb_rh:The answer is right there in your pics....5V.
—Donnie
Yeah, realized that right after I posted. You beat my edit.
Working on scraping all the glue away. Not sure why that was done.. maybe it kept coming unplugged and they thought this would fix that once and for all? Blah.
https://www.hookedonpinball.com/store/p7/Tron-Light-Cycle-Set-Pinball-Mod.html
So, are these NOT the ones I want?
I'm definitely getting a solid 5V from the power leads..but nothing on the display. I'm assuming *something* happened and my board is now.....dead. That sucks.
Quoted from Saltimbanco:Have you tried connecting on that second row, or switching side.. there's different types of boards out there, at this point you won't kill it. Wait a bit when powering on, it does not come on instantly..
Yeah I tried all sorts of things. Didn't seem to make any difference.
Quoted from Saltimbanco:Well, you can buy an OLED and copy the program on it using that microSD slot.. I'll send you the link where to find all that info online if you want.
Having said that, your cabinet is also quite beat up.. you could always order a brand new mod from pinbalooking. But it's $$..
Sent a PM over, so I guess we'll see what happens. Might just have to wait around on it for a bit. Basically sold a kidney just buying the machine.
Haha no subwoofer yet although it does supposedly have "upgraded sound" -- whatever THAT means. It's pretty damn loud.
I'm getting my ass kicked a LITTLE less today; I've had a few games in the 50s today. Not great by any means, but on the leaderboard anyway (I erased the high scores because it was bumming me out seeing them all over 140M). Seems I can get to Sea of Simulation here and there, but I usually get my ass kicked once I'm there. Ha ha.
Great, frustrating game. I love the shots on it. I figured I would, but it's good to see that ended up holding true...after all I did in order to buy it, lol.
Quoted from Tsunami:What led lights are you using? I went to hooked on pinball and got my pop bumper led and I’m happy with them.

Just following up on this one last time, I decided to swap the linked pad from my YELLOW disc--since I figured it was the most likely one to still look good with an 'inferior' bulb inside--in to the BLUE disc and I put a sunlight 4x4 flasher under the YELLOW disc. It's actually doing just fine compared to the orange and blue now, and blue looks pretty good. Those pads are frickin' awesome though, I think I'll definitely be ordering a few for supply purposes when I order the cycles. I'm sure they won't look good under any sort of translucent caps, but under metal/solid caps...they definitely have potential. Thanks again for the link!
4560B79A-785B-4E82-88AE-2B53F08118F9 (resized).jpeg4E2AD49B-3A85-406C-9DB7-AD95F15DB2CA (resized).jpegQuoted from Saltimbanco:Nitpicking here, lol, but how should those Tron stickers be aligned? All to be read from one direction, aligned with the lines in that chrome part?.. just wondering what would look best..
I'm sure they'd be better if they were lined up differently..not sure what the instructions said. I'm not gonna mess with it, out of fear of making them worse or ruining them entirely.
Guess we just need to decide on the 'correct' orientation, huh.
Random, but has anyone ever taken the head off on one of these? I know, I know.."it folds down! why would you do that!?" ... My stairs are a nightmare. I take on considerably less risk of doing *any* damage to the cab if I take it down in two pieces. The hard 90 at the bottom of my stairs, on a too-small landing to actually rotate anything..makes me really nervous with this pin. I don't typically care that much with my older System 11 games..they all have nicks here and there anyway and I consider it character. I sure as hell do *not* want to damage this cab. So..how hard is it to separate? Is it a complete nightmare?
Well, shit. I noticed how dirty my machine was, especially on the rear loop, so I loosened the ramps in order to get back there....and snapped one of the fiber cables (under the playfield) and now it won't reach. Is there a place to go buy more of this? Do I have any other option besides redoing an entire section of this?
At least the game is cleaned and waxed now, I guess? :'(
Quoted from dacdjsteve:This is a first for me! Still think these pop bumper kits are awesome.
[quoted image]
LOL. Nice! I finally had a decent game on mine. So close to portal.. but not quite.
Quoted from monkeyboypaul:I’ve had that one a handful of times now. The ball jumps up above the disc and then works it’s way left behind the ramp. I’m amazed no one else reports this. Perhaps our machines are lacking some retrospective ball trap stopper up there. Mine’s a 1st run Pro.
I think I remember it hitting that spot HARD on order to get there, so it was definitely some fluky shit. Only sucks because of the game situation i mentioned, but oh well. I'll get there eventually!
Quoted from northvibe:My tron arcade mod is acting up like like a poster above. Where it randomly is on or off at boot.... ugh I’ll have to pull the board and test. I was hoping it was the wiring of the blue speaker wire but that tested fine
Hope you get it figured out! I ended up pulling it and mailing it off for refurb.
Quoted from wolffcub:Can someone with a machine that has the Fat EL wire installed around the ramps please let me know whats its diameter is. I need to see if my tower mod kit has enough room to still work with EL installations.
Isn't it pretty standard 5mm?
I'm not sure what my deal is lately. Tron has been absolutely DUNKING on me..over and over and over. I can throw out a 30-70mil score here and there, but there have been a TON of 6-10mil scores..with lots and lots of downright evil drains. I felt like I was getting the hang of it a week or two ago, now it feels like I'm playing it for the first time..every time. Pretty frustrating tbh. I'm sure some of it has to do with the fact that my left sling wasn't kicking very hard (the damn rivet broke, so it wasn't actually connected!) and I'm sure that made things 'easier'. Now it's linked back up and kicking like a mule..which almost certainly only makes things harder on me. So maybe it's that and I just need to adjust. But man, it's been brutal lately.
I loosened the ramps to clean back behind things somewhat (there was a noticeable ball trail back there) and felt I got it pretty decently cleaned...but the trail is back. When my new fiber cable comes for the blue ramp, I'm going to fully remove that ramp so I can clean a bit more in depth behind there. It shouldn't be getting as dirty as it's getting, IMO.
Quoted from Saltimbanco:Beautiful! Must have been exciting to see
I was happy to finally see portal on my game. I've been close a couple of times and then just absolutely shit the bed.
That's gonna be the GC on my game for quite a while, I'm afraid. But hey, he's the reigning Nevada state champ..so I guess it's okay.
Quoted from Saltimbanco:Scores don't matter, it's how much fun the game is! Tron gets people excited when I turn it on - my girls were actually dancing to it the other day! Lol
Oh, for sure. But when you have two or three nasty drains, over and over and over....you fall in love with the beauty of the machine (temporarily!) just a little bit less. lol
As is so commonly said around here... I just need to play better. But in the interim, Tron ain't my friend.
Quoted from Saltimbanco:#BrokenAndBruised lol
She's mean and she hurt my feelings!!!!
It's an interesting idea but not my style either. Wouldn't the ramp entrances be the proper places for these... or am I just dumb?
I'm not sure why, but my machine only came with two of those bright ass LED pads...and for whatever reason the blue disk was the one that didn't have it... So it was dim as all hell.
I rotated the pad from the yellow (which didn't really need it) to blue and put a 4x4 warm white tower from Comet in the yellow. Evened it out considerably, and now yellow looks much more in line with the other two. Those pads are awesome, and completely necessary for these disks. But the blue only gets so bright.
Quoted from neverahighscore:Yep, get rid of them. not needed!
Agreed. I had to undo pink and blue puke GI but Comet 2SMD cool white made everything look great. I added spots on the slings to brighten up the middle a bit. All it needed IMO.
Quoted from TheNoTrashCougar:I'm finally back in the game! Now, the impossible task of finding an Eli Ramp Illumination Kit again.
I paid for some replacement filament back in January and never got so much as a follow up email lol.
Quoted from monkeyboypaul:Welcome back Program!
TimeBandit appears to have derezzed himself.
[quoted image]
...And his website gone: http://www.redshiftled.com.au/
No obvious reasoning.
Pinbits out of stock for well over 1yr now: https://pinbits.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=566
Sad times... TRON Pro feels naked and incomplete without this mod.
PS - I'm waiting for the second run of TNA before diving in...
Funny, Pinbits is who I ordered from. No response to my follow-up email a couple weeks ago. Going to have to initiate a chargeback at this point, I guess. Bleh.
Quoted from jasonbar:All signs indicate that Pinbits is defunct. Do a search on "Pinbits" to learn more.
Thanks,
Jason
That's a bummer.
Is there anywhere else to buy replacement wire?
Quoted from Ashram56:Not sure I understand, by wire you mean EL Wire or fiber optics?
In both cases... Aliexpress....
A pic would be helpful to get pointers
The actual ramp fiber that wraps around the blue ramp is what I need. Mine snapped while I was trying to loosen ramps to clean (I lost 2-3" of length) and now one side isn't long enough to reach the box that emits the light. See how the right side (at the ramp entrance) is less vivid than the left? That's because one side isn't plugged in.

Do these siderails exist anywhere still? I'm assuming not..any leads on used ones maybe? I'd love to buy a set of those, either raw or chromed.
Quoted from beelzeboob:I don't think so. When he posted that ad, he said he had just found a couple remaining ones that he had stashed away. I bought that chrome set and just sold the machine with them on there. So...I guess it's goodbye to the Tron club for me.
Yeah I figured it was the longest of long shots tbh. It's such a fantastic look. Big mad I can't do it to mine. Sad to hear you left us!
Quoted from RetroGamerJP:Anybody interested in a (NON-WORKING) Tron Mini-Cab Mod? ... I believe this is a V3.1 ... this was in the last TRON machine that crossed my path and it was not working (just completely dead) ... I never bothered to trouble shoot, just took it out and replaced with the original Stern Min-Cab.
Perhaps someone can bring it back to life or use for their own mod project. I dont have any of the associated Harness, just what you see here.
$50 shipped (contiguous 48 only please)
[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]
Have you by chance tried reaching out to pinballlooking about this? It might be something that could be repaired, assuming it came from them to begin with.
Quoted from Durzel:Removing the ramps isn’t that big of a deal really, and well worth doing to clean around the rear loop.
[quoted image]
Is there any way to remove the ramps easily when you have the EL wire wrapped around them? From my experience (I snapped one side of the blue ramp) it was...not fun. I gave up after having merely loosened it enough to do *some* cleaning. I didn't get to clean nearly as much as I wanted.
Quoted from monkeyboypaul:Can’t you simply loosen the screw which holds the fibre into the little ‘light box PCB’ underneath the playfield? That means you can pull the fibre out of that box and up through the playfield. Then you take the ramps off with fibres still attached.
Yes and no. Since it's not flexible, per se, when I attempted to do this I broke off one of the sides. It just wasn't flexible enough to route back up top. Again, that's just my experience. Maybe my EL wire sucks.
Quoted from Micky:I'm glad I'm not the only one who was thinking this. The two-tone look is horrible in my opinion.
I won't say 'horrible' because I think that's a bit......rude... But I'm not a fan either. The good thing about this hobby is that we can do whatever makes us happy and at the end of the day that's all that matters. Some powdercoated armor/legs isn't a big deal IMO and is something that can be undone at any point.
Quoted from tatman9999:I bought it the way it came. It’s a good thing I have the original chrome also.
I wish I had an extra set of metal to go have powdercoated. I don't really want to have my game down while I do the powdercoating. Alas I may have no choice. I'm not terribly in love with the green armor on my Metallica Premium but that won't look good on any of my other Sterns either (Tron, Black Knight Sword of Rage) so I'm just kinda...stuck for now. I don't want any of them down while I mess with all of this. I'd really like to try purple on Tron, though. I think it would play nicely with the TRON lights. Blue or orange would be fine too, but I'm not in love with either, personally.
Quoted from Saltimbanco:Ok, I stand corrected.
I certainly don't think 25k is now the going rate. But obviously it CAN go for that kind of money which is just nuts. I'd certainly be fishing if mine weren't a pro, just because I think that kind of money for a pin is silly and I don't think it will by ANY means 'hold' that sort of value (jmo).
Quoted from Soulrider911:I have a feeling I know the answer, but anyone know where to source an arcade mod? It would appear they are dunzo... but for some reason I remember seeing a DIY version somewhere using a 3d Printer (which I have). Cheers
Reach out to pinballlooking to see if/when they'll be doing another run.
My replacement arrived today and I couldn't be more thrilled to have it back. It was dead (and basically destroyed) when I bought my machine. They took care of me to get a new one. Hands down the BEST mod I've ever used.
PXL_20210503_191406697.MP (resized).jpgPXL_20210503_204803066 (resized).jpgMine was trashed in every way imaginable. Hot glue EVERYWHERE, didn't work, just completely busted. I don't think there was any saving any of it.
Quoted from northvibe:Idk sounds like a normal one. They were hand made and hot glued together etc
They seemed surprised by how....rough.. Mine was. It was bad. I highly doubt that was normal lol
Quoted from northvibe:Maybe it was redone by someone then? Weird, I haven’t seen too many in person.
Do you still have it? I forgot someone a few pages back said they had one broken.
I shipped it back in hopes that something could be salvaged from it to repair it. But I think what I ended up getting was completely new. It was a mess.
Quoted from northvibe:Ah, nice rhat you got a new one. It is a super cool mod that like heated seats in your car. Once you have it, can’t live without it
It was hard to look at that open void -- without even the dead arcade I had been used to -- while it was away! It's such a great mod!
Quoted from Soulrider911:EL panels installed man they look awesome [quoted image][quoted image]
I'd love to get my hands on a set of these. From my understanding these came from pinball refinery and are no longer available.... Right? Anyone willing to trade a set for a slightly used / crushed soul?!
Quoted from northvibe:Crazy, I've never had that happen... ouch. Nice fix!
Ditto, never seen it on my machine. I'd be pretty pissed to have it happen, especially more than once in a million. I'm bad enough on this game as it is...
I put a piece of target foam on the left, near the bottom of my left ramp. It all but eliminated bounce from the ball coming down the ramp. I don't think I did anything to the right ramp however.
The last time i pulled my ramps in any capacity I snapped one of the stupid fiber optic wires. I'm still salty about that.
Those ramps look great, nice work!
Quoted from koops:They are also selling this Bally "CE".
[quoted image]
With a hardtop. Oh sweet Jesus. How is that 'better than new' exactly? And I say that as someone who owns two hardtops and loves them. Maybe he spent some time moonlighting as a used car salesman at one point...
It does look great but imo misrepresented and a laugher at $5500. But what do I know, someone will probably buy it...
Quoted from Soulrider911:Just got the speaker panel decal on… looks great kinda wish it didn’t say tron… but hey better than the wood I think?
[quoted image]
I think it looks great. Maybe better without the word TRON right below the word TRON, but that's okay.
My friend fabricated up some sweet speaker covers with light cycles on them. I need to pester him into making another one for me.
Quoted from shaunpurslow:I put some orange plasma pop bumpers in mine because I couldn't find any good covers for the stock ones and the LEDs were god awful. I would definitely be willing to buy a pair of your custom tops just to switch things up a little from time to time.
[quoted image]
Those are neat but aren't they $100+ each? That's rich guy stuff
I love the hookedonpinball disks, with the linked bulbs. They're awesome!
The 3D design above looks really good too. I love the custom touches.
Quoted from tdiddy:Does anyone have and extra set on the Legacy rails they would part with? They can be chromed or Raw
Man I'd kill for a set of those. I need to fix my ramp lights too, I broke one side on one of the ramps when I was cleaning so now it's not as sharp as it was. Bleh.
I should really figure out what all mods I have. My disc has some kind of RGB light going on but I don't know anything about it. I never asked my seller what mods it came with, I didn't really care at the time. I just wanted a Tron!
