Finally in the club
Looks like I just need to put a chrome shooter rod in, slap on some clear rubber... and I'll be good to go!
The wait for delivery may literally kill me. Will check back in a few weeks when she gets here, which is about how long it should take me to read this entire thread.
Anyways, HI

Welcome to the grid!!! Your IM and MET have some serious competition in between them now...let the games begin!!!

#6702 2 years ago

Happy Happy Joy Joy!!!! I'm in the club!!

..and this game is brutal!! Really suk at it at the moment, lol...but makes me want to work hard, play better and beat it!

Started reading this thread in the hope not to ask annoying questions but after 11 pages and 2hrs wasted at work I gave up, so here come a couple of quick questions.

It has the Pin2DMD I think it is...where you colour it yourself...not a fan and will look to change it with a Blue DMD. Easy to do? Does the DMD come with the housing etc to mount straight out of the box?

Rule sheet...anywhere I can find a clean printable version excluding the one that Pinball News did I think it was......and last but not least.....MODS!!!!

I want to add a few, Blue DMD as mentioned, Tron Mirror Blades...and want to check on others I might be missing...is there a thread to show links to all possible mods for this awesome machine!!

...love it more than the lamp?!? Hell Yeah!!!

We've moved on from lamp, next challenge was Lightning Kitty. TRON beats it, but it was a close race...

Finally after months of searching the Grid I have found a NIB TRON PRO & LE, just waiting to hear back on prices

I hope you have deep pockets, and proof if they're uk-based!

Buy a used but tastefully modded Pro for a relatively reasonable sum! Few of them about.

Of course its a UK game Paul

Have you got the Eli Ramp Kit on your Pro Paul? I know Pinbits sell a ramp kit for the Pro based on Eli original, have you had much time with a LE, how good is the Pro kit compared to the LE ramp lights?

#6713 2 years ago

Still waiting on mine to be delivered. I'll be ready for her!

I've had quite a bit of time on an LE and my Pro has the Eli kit, fitted personally! It's great, and I find it much brighter. I'm not tempted by the LE in any way now, other than the added kudos it carries, as I actually prefer the Pro and don't want the 4 TRON drop-targets. Just my opinion of course. The cash spared went on an IMVE instead. Win win.

Brighter you say? I do like my lights bright so that sounds good. I had an LE years ago but it had to go along with 90% of my collection at the time and as insignificant as it is I loved that silver edging/outline on the inserts of the LE, literally it was the one thing I loved about my LE over the pro, other than that pro/prem/le doesn't mean a lot to me other than which one I personally like better for what ever reason it takes my fancy.

Definitely brighter, but the fibre is also transparent when not lit, which is subtly different to the opaque LE. The LE also uses LED insert boards on the playfield, so unless you add your own LEDs (and OCD board) then the Pro could be darker in some ways. I'm not a fan of the LE's insert blinkyness, feels a bit harsh like Walking Dead Prem/LE.

LE has that all-important silver edging though, a Pro can't fight that battle.

If you want to see a modded Pro, but not buy it as I have surgically welded it to the floor, then pop over sometime. Referring to your purchase choices, it all comes down to your preference and, especially where TRON LE is concerned, your budget - big gap for not enough in my eyes.

gorillabiscuits I was the owner before the person you are buying it from.

If he kept the soundtrack intact, the sound modification (and the apron cards) are from here: https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/tron-music-replacement-work-in-progress

#6719 2 years ago

nosro sweet! I actually already started messing with some of the alt sound files on pin browser from that author, but will defenitely keep what's on there for a while to try and beat the scores... cheers! Should have it set up in the next week.

It has an ungodly amount of mods on it, was that all your doing?

So happy about Herg's topper/speaker board being included... I'm truly elated haha.

I'll take REAL good care of her, take care!!!

#6720 2 years ago

gorillabiscuits check the user name of the author Let me know if you want any more alternatives.

Each of the four previous owners added mods. Time to add your touch to the history of this machine.

#6721 2 years ago

nosro whoah haha, respect! Some of my fondest memories from when I first moved to NYC involve seeing Daft Punk at Twilo. Really loving all the options you set up. Thanks for all your work looping and EQ'ing all this stuff!

Roger that on leaving my mark. I picked up a chrome rod and housing, and all clear rubbers and recognizer disc. I don't think there's anything left after that!

Guys, if anyone is interested in a Discs of Tron minicab mod, please go post here that you'd buy one:

https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/tron-mini-arcade-cabinet-we-are-now-taking-preorders-for-the-second-run

I have both arcades to go beside my TronLE and I'd love for the LE to have both minicabs in it, should we get enough interest to get the DoT minicabs made.

I made it back to Portal. Only the second time ever for me and I was beginning to wonder if that light still worked. I was playing far above my skill level. I mean, everything was just unfolding in front of me. It was as if I knew where the ball was going to go and gave the machine just the right nudge at the right time. MB's? No problem, just keep two of them on the left flipper and nail everything with the right one. I started wondering to myself....Is this how Bowen feels all the time? Wow. It was definitely time for a Snickers bar.
Well, I am not Bowen and reality quickly set in. I flubbed the last ball and ended with only 159 million. It could of been much higher if a ball would not have bounced into the scoop to start SOS before I could complete disc mb. Everything else was lit solid. Arrgh.

Tron kicks ass. I had just completed it and the first thing I wanted to do was play again. That says a lot right there. Libations for everybody

#6730 2 years ago

Ive finally found a tron to buy! its a fully modded HUO with a ton of mods. It doesn't have eli's ramp mod but some sort of other lighting on the ramps (maybe just el wire). The shooter lane looks pretty good but has some black marks there- is that the grime coming from the spinning disc working its way to the shooter lane? Will that clean up okay? Looking forward to joining the club

That black residue is what us tronophytes call the "troncoat", an impermiable black shield to protect your game, yes it comes off and until you replace the black disc, it will be right back on... Enjoy sir!

Cool good to know Where can I get a replacement disc for the game? Anything else I should look out for?

Disc Rubbers - I'd suggest a few for reserves. Get them here: http://www.pinball.center/en/shop/pinball-parts/pinball-rubber/miscellaneous/4365/disc-rubber-set-for-tron-legacy-transparent?c=2267

Disc Hub - I'd suggest at least one extra, you can still clean and re-use the old hub. Get it here: http://www.pinballlife.com/index.php?p=product&id=2539

Adhesive - I have tried spray adhesive with moderate success, but someone dug out of Stern what they originally used, and I liked how it worked when my disc lifted up. Search out this adhesive: http://na.henkel-adhesives.com/product-search-1554.htm?nodeid=8797712678913

I'm not sure if I already know you 71, but I have stock of the disc rubbers, and you can borrow my loctite to get your Tron up to membership spec.

You're welcome to play my Tron and see what a disc kicker it becomes. Maybe also sneak in a few games of MB and Diamond Jack. Or, if you want to meet at my office, you can play the other 18 games at the world famous Monterey Flipper Pinball headquarters.

Give me a holler.

Cool sites. I didn't know about the pinball-center website, they got a lot of pretty cool stuff (especially the laser cut armor ive been looking for). Thanks for the invite- you've got a nice collection of games- wouldn't mint checking it out next time in the area

Brought her home last week. Couldn't be happier. I replaced the disc with a new one, and swapped out the black rubber with clear. No more black marks and the recognizer is seriously fast now. I have 75 feet of LED strips covering the perimeter of my walls... tomorrow I'll be tying them into my custom light board, so the entire room will be in sync with the el ramps. Good times!

Are you planning to try running 75 ft of LED strip directly off the board I designed? If so, that's a lot of current. I'd suggest starting with a shorter run and monitoring the temperature of the transistors on the board.

I really want to be in a room when it goes completely blue and yellow with a sub rattling the walls when starting LCMB.

#6737 2 years ago

Hah. Maybe. OK Yes

Bad idea? Any ideas for a workaround?

They are in 25 foot strips... would 25 feet also be a terrible idea?

Not sure how to monitor temps, but considering your board is retired I want to be super careful.

#6738 2 years ago

gorillabiscuits That high score of 203,614,840 by "DADDY" is mine. I had one heck of a lucky game where I skipped Sea of Simulation and went straight to Portal with double scoring active, netting a huge bonus. I wish I could call it skill, but I didn't even realize that I had double scoring active.

I'm surprised that neither you nor asylum has reset it. The only thing that is not at default settings is that an extra ball is awarded at a fixed 15M (and is not boosted). Now you have a goal.

#6739 2 years ago
Quoted from GorillaBiscuits:

I used the "medium" fuse rather than the "high" or "low" current fuse (I no longer remember the exact values). Thus, although your are likely to be OK (and are protected by the fuse), I would have less confidence than if it had the "low" current fuse.

#6740 2 years ago

An estimate for the "300 LED" type strips is about 1A per 10 ft per color. So, for 75 ft, each transistor would be carrying about 7.5A. They're rated much higher than that, but that's assuming a big heatsink on them. They're just stood straight up with no heat sink, so they will not stay cool enough to meet the rated value.

An IR thermometer is a good way to measure the temperature, but your finger works too. If it burns your finger, it's too hot.

You also want to make sure your power supply is up to it. Don't try to do this using the 12V connector in your game.

#6741 2 years ago

The more I think about it, you'll probably hit the limit on the power input connector before the transistor limit. I have no experience with these "amplifiers", but it seems like they would do the trick, offloading the current from the adapter board.

amazon.com link »

#6742 2 years ago

nosro that is a beastly score! No way I'm removing that. I'll have to cash in some serious end of line combos, wow.

herg the amplifier sounds like a good idea. Where in the chain of things would these go? Definitely between each string of lights, so for three strings that would be two... what if I only use one string, would i still sneak this in somewhere?

Thanks!

#6743 2 years ago

You could use it before any long string. Between the adapter board and the room strings would keep you from blowing fuses or burning something up on the adapter board or your game. You might still overload the amplifier if you have 75 ft hanging off it.

The most conservative, but possibly overkill would be:
adatper -> amplifier -> 25 ft -> amplifier -> 25 ft -> amplifier -> 25 ft

Depending on how the strings are physically located, you could also:

adpater -> splitter -> amplifier -> 25 ft
.............................-> amplifier -> 25 ft
.............................-> amplifier -> 25 ft

Herg, you are seriously the best. If you're ever in NYC there's a pizza, beer of your choice, and 8 games ready to rock out on. Just hit me up. Video will be incoming over the next week or so

Hey all,

Haven't had a chance to read through the 135 pages of posts yet and I'm looking for a Tron Pro. If anyone knows of one available, hit me up. Thanks.

Can anyone tell me if this sound rom is available to download?
Ive had a custom one on mine for a while and i thinking of changing

If it cannot be shared can someone PM me?

#6747 2 years ago

Anyone have a spare Tron Micro Display Mod they are interested to sell? Always wanted to pick one up but apparently waited too long.

#6748 2 years ago

Did you ever do a mod to a game and say to yourself "why the Hell didn't I do that years ago?"

I wasn't wild about the colorDMD in Tron. In some games I adore it, but it never seemed worth it in Tron. So I still had the original plasma display. I just swapped it out for an Xpin blue DMD, and I just LOVE it. I think it looks fantastic!

IMG_1063 (resized).JPG

I do need to adjust the angle of the shield because it reflects the playfield spotlights back to the player, but just wow.

#6749 2 years ago

I've updated an earlier post I made on installing the "Clear disc of doom."

https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/official-tron-lovefest-thread-i-love-it-more-than-lamp/page/125#post-3230146

The 3M 77 spray adhesive I used failed after about 30 days. I installed a replacement transparent rubber disc using 3M 4475 and that has been going strong now for 7 months. It is an industrial plastic adhesive I found on Amazon that comes in a tube. I don't know if this was critical or not but I prepped the hard plastic spinning disk with 3M 94 plastic primer. In the very least the primer is compatible with the various materials used. The primer is available in small tubes also. I use this primer to prep inserts when gluing during a playfield restoration.

Just to reiterate, the "Clear disc of doom" is crazy cool. Some posters have said it is too crazy, but after you break it in, it settles down and is good crazy.
