The leaked art did not quite look like Zombie Yeti's style.

murray_art.jpgmurray_art.jpg

#632 8 years ago
Quoted from PanzerFreak:

Well, to be fair his other artwork looks a lot different then that picture as well.

Sure.

It could have just been a quickie, but for someone that loves Bill Murray, you would think ZY would have done a better caricature of him.

#633 8 years ago
Quoted from PanzerFreak:

Oh, I didn't know that. I thought Dirty Donny did the artwork for Metallica? Did he do just the side and backglass artwork while Zombie Yeti did the playfield?

Don't believe the nonsense.

#636 8 years ago
Quoted from Soonerbrink:

What are the reasons the pics are removed so quickly?

Robin want's to keep in Stern's good graces.

He does not want Pinside to become a leak site.

#644 8 years ago
Quoted from TomGWI:

Damn I gotta take a leak right now!

Don't leak here, or Robin will ban you.

#668 8 years ago
Quoted from chuckwurt:

But what if you were the artist?

You still got paid, why would you care if the pic comes out 20 days early?

#673 8 years ago
Quoted from chuckwurt:

Just saying. They might have been excited to see the official release of it instead of a weird early release that half the people think is fake. Kind of uneventful.

If it's so bad that 50% of the people think it's fake, then that is a signal to fix it now before it festers further.

Remember the terrible Hobbit playfield art? People cried that it sucked, and JJP fixed it. Disaster avoided.

#685 8 years ago

Other than J-pop leaking Stern's KISS, nothing is ever "leaked" from Stern unless they want it to.

JJP was starting to make a little noise by showing the Hobbit assembly line being set up, so Stern killed the excitement with Ghostbusters......

Quoted from Whysnow:

Is this what others are referring to?

Holy shit!!!!!!!!!

Where exactly did you find that??????

#706 8 years ago
Quoted from Whysnow:

Is this the same image that was leaked earlier? and then removed?

Yes, you have a smaller rendition of the one Robin removed.

#719 8 years ago
Quoted from dmbjunky:

The thing is I don't have much of a problem with DE art.

Nope, it's wonderful.

#730 8 years ago
Quoted from epthegeek:

Maybe it is yeti and he's not great at trying to match celebrity likenesses? *shrug*

I'd say that Yeti has Bill Murray down pretty great.....

murray_art.jpgmurray_art.jpg

#787 8 years ago
Quoted from frolic:

I don't doubt what you just wrote, but why is someone who "has a Stern email address" sending out images for unannounced games, wanting them to be widely distributed?

That is the best way to cancel any excitement JJP was generating about starting to put The Hobbit assembly line together.

If JJP would have made the announcement last week, the picture would have been leaked last week.

Nothing is leaked by Stern, unless they want it to.

#795 8 years ago
Quoted from beelzeboob:

But it was leaked a few weeks ago.

Yep, everyone big in the scene had already seen it, so a widespread "leak" was the perfect water for JJP's fire.

Sony is doing a new animated feature too.

Sony’s revived Ghostbusters franchise is expanding into another dimension. The studio is working on an Ghostbusters animated movie, which will arrive after Paul Feig‘s live-action reboot due out next summer. Get more details on the Ghostbusters animated movie after the jump.

The studio confirmed development of an Ghostbusters animated movie to TheWrap. Original Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman is on board to produce, while Kristine Belson and Michael Lachance will oversee the project for Sony Pictures Animation. The studio is now seeking a writer to tackle the project. No director or stars have been announced.

The Ghostbusters were previously cartoon-ified for a TV series that aired on ABC from 1986 to 1991. The new film will follow the same basic premise as the earlier show, revolving around a bunch of scientists who fight supernatural forces together. However, there’s a twist — sources indicate the story will be told from the point of view of a ghost. Which is a pretty genius idea, actually.

In addition, while the Ghostbusters have typically been associated with Manhattan, the new animated movie may go elsewhere. As the trade sagely notes, ” supernatural activity is not limited to a single borough in New York City.”

Sony spent years trying to get a third Ghostbusters movie together before finally Feig finally came along with an idea to reboot the series. But it’s clear their ambitions for the franchise don’t stop there. A second live-action project is in the works with Joe and Anthony Russo — although Reitman’s taken pains to de-emphasize it, perhaps so as to not overshadow the first one.

Feig’s new live-action Ghostbusters stars Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones, and Kate McKinnon as a new team of spirit-seekers. Chris Hemsworth is their Annie Potts equivalent, and a slew of original Ghostbusters stars are set to cameo. It’s due out July 15, 2016.

Really only one remake of classic 80s has even been successful, The Karate Kid, and who even gives a toss about that one?

C'mon how about Fright Night, Halloween (Rob Zombie remake) or Piranha 3D?

Can't forget all the horror films that were better than the originals.

#856 8 years ago
Quoted from Mudflaps:

Sweet Lord I hope you're joking!

91% Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes for 1985.

But most true horror fans believe the 2011 is better.

#859 8 years ago
Quoted from Mudflaps:

but junk re-makes like Fright Night, The Fog, Halloween, and many others are (to me) simply watered down and lesser versions.

The attic scene from Zombie's Halloween alone was scarier than the entire original Halloween.

What we don't know... Stern will be releasing GB and GBLE at the show. Stern will be there just trying to sell more KISS and GOT. Or botH?

Anyone have any real evidence here?

I'm not sure about Stern, but Kaneda did offer to cross streams with me at the show.

#1352 8 years ago
Quoted from mnpinball:

So anyone confirm this as GB ?

Hopefully all those chevron inserts are blue, so everyone can fix their F14s again ..........

Quoted from NPO:

Whoa Nellie was, in essence, a re-release of a conversion game that most of Pinside went "meh" towards.

It is the #1 earning game in the country right now.

Operators don't give two squirts about what Pinsiders think, they just care what puts money in the cashbox.

Quoted from NPO:

It's the kind of game RH (Restoration Hardware) puts in their catalog and charges $4000 like here:

No, those are refurbished EMs.

Whoa Nelly is NOT an EM in any way shape or form.

Quoted from Wakky:

Got sent these concept pics from a reputable pinball dealer.... anyone else seen these?

Yes, those pics are posted in full resolution on aussiearcade.com.au

I think whenever there is some actual good news about Hobbit, a little more GB info "leaks" out to negate it.

#2935 8 years ago
Quoted from MTC4U:

In the name of all that is holy and sacred, can someone please pm me the pics! Im just dying to see this pin! I will be discreet ofc.

Looks like Pokerino was an inspiration for the Newton ball section...

Yeah, I noticed that too.

Kordek keeps designing games, even as a ghost.

#3071 8 years ago

You know those images are leaked on purpose, because they are not cellphone photos of a computer monitor, they are fully rendered artwork.

Stern's design dept is really small. Who is going to risk their job over those images?

It's not like the nighttime cleaning crew is booting up the computers, rendering output and mailing it to their friends.

#3074 8 years ago
Quoted from DCFAN:

We are even getting instances of ghosting posts.

This frigging place is haunted

#3167 8 years ago

You guys would buy Ghostbusters even with score reels, and Stern knows it.

#3312 8 years ago

Of course the #1 earning game is WNBJM.

So I don't think operators are too worried about the display; just how much it earns.

number_one_(resized).jpgnumber_one_(resized).jpg

#3315 8 years ago
Quoted from T-800:

Lol, while I appreciate the data, did you see the pin in 2nd place??

Sure did.

So you can see that even an older, B-list DMD game that originally sold for $3700 is having no problem matching the earnings of a $9,000 latest greatest.

Operators don't care what the display is, just how much money it takes in.

#3335 8 years ago
Quoted from MapleSyrup:

The negativity that surrounds the all female reboot, seems to be based on the fact that it's women. It just comes across as misogyny to me. It's lame. It's all about how "ugly" these women are, or who you would or wouldn't "bang"... Give me a Fu$@ing break. You're on a pinball forum. You (like me!!) are the Nerdiest Nerd in Nerdtown. We shouldn't judge people superficially. Grow the F$&K up!

All the women haters can rejoice that Chris Hemsworth (aka Thor) plays the secretary, Janine.

Something for everybody.

#3337 8 years ago
Quoted from o-din:

This pinball machine is a 30 year old re-boot. No matter how you look at it.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes was a 40 years old reboot - excellent.

Casino Royale was probably a 50 year old reboot - and was the best Bond film ever.

#3372 8 years ago
Quoted from dmbjunky:

I've never seen the old Casino Royale so I can't say if it's better but best bond film? No way.

THE-BEST-BOND-MOVIE-EVER

1000x better than the original.

95% on Rotten Tomatoes - the highest rated Bond film.

James Bond is a spy but how is playing poker something a spy would do.

I'd believe a spy would play poker before I would believe they would go out into space.....

#3384 8 years ago
Quoted from dmbjunky:

Bond movies, my pick would be Skyfall

Indeed, Skyfall is an excellent movie!

#3419 8 years ago
Quoted from Fifty:

Isn't Skyfall the one where Bond basically rapes the girl in the shower?

I hope so.

#3725 8 years ago

Stern is probably waiting to be closer to the July 15 release date.

#3753 8 years ago

Ever since the first LCD pin came out 7 years ago (MarsaPlay's New Canasta), pinheads have been begging Stern to make one too.

Pinheads have been **hearing** that the next Stern game was LCD for 7 years.

Pinheads have been threatening to not buy another Stern until they copy Marsa's LCD backbox.

If Stern wanted to do it, they would have already done it....

10
#3757 8 years ago
Quoted from Plungemaster:

And you cant blame them for not going next gen. But they will when the numbers decline. And when they do that, they will instantly sell many many many pins again.

The game itself still has to kick ass, the display does not matter.

NIB would you rather have Eight Ball Deluxe or Cue Ball Wizard ?

The DMD display does not make Cue Ball Wizard the better game, does it ?

#3770 8 years ago
Quoted from Pinballlew:

The lcd helps attract a younger crowd to these games and I feel would help operators a bit. Maybe it doesn't affect gameplay that much but it definitely does attract attention from others walking around in an arcade situation.

But does that add even a single dollar to the coinbox at the end of the week?

The number one earning game in the nation right now is WNBJM:

whoanellie02_(resized).jpgwhoanellie02_(resized).jpg

#3784 8 years ago
Quoted from Fishbeadtwo:

a search for any images of the leaked stuff reveals nothing. Did Stern scrub every image off the web?

Stern did not scrub anything, because the "leak" was clearly done on purpose to negate any excitement about JJP Hobbit pre-production announcement.

Quoted from lowepg:

If Stern really wants to derail JJP, they should have released a LOTR VE right when TH was "promised' to ship last January....

I don't think Gary cares enough to really "derail" JJP, but a fun little "leak" at the same time JJP was trumpeting the release of 2 pre-production Hobbits was great move.

#3790 8 years ago
Quoted from kpg:

at least Stern should offer a ColorDMD that's pre-coded for color for their premium and LE lines.

stern-does-not-care_(resized).jpgstern-does-not-care_(resized).jpg

#3806 8 years ago
Quoted from Butch2099:

I know it's on the list somewhere as being #1 but I just can't believe it. Novelty factor? I don't see it as being that good (IMHO) and I barely even finished a game on it at Allentown.

It does not matter how "good" it is, all that matters is that people keep putting money into it.

It looks approachable and it's got big tits = money in the cashbox.

#3860 8 years ago
Quoted from PinMonk:

It has the smallest number of locations reporting, doesn't it?

Nope, hundreds of operators report monthly.

#3870 8 years ago

Quoted from Mike_J:

As an aside, most people consider Daniel Craig to be the ugliest Bond in the history of the franchise.

That's probably why those were the best Bond movies ever.

#3953 8 years ago
Quoted from Haymaker:

Do you guys remember when the new TMNT movie was announced, and they told everyone the turtles were going to be aliens instead of mutated turtles?

Yeah!

Do you guys remember when they remade Mad Max Fury Road and it had women staring in it, and they got rid of Mel Gibson and...and...oh wait, it was the best Mad Max ever.....

#3959 8 years ago
Quoted from Captain_Kirk:

Yet Max was still a dude.....

True.

But (StarWars Spoiler) now the **Han Solo** character is now played by a young chick flying around with Chewbaca.

And Thor is now a woman.

Get with the times, guys.

thor_girl_(resized).jpgthor_girl_(resized).jpg

#3963 8 years ago
Quoted from Haymaker:

Except mad max wasn't a remake.

Remake, retread, reboot, whatever, the movie kicked ass with an all new cast that can actually act.

#3975 8 years ago
Quoted from Flack:

I read multiple times that more would be revealed on 2/14. That day has come and gone with nothing new, any inside info on announcement date?

Unless JJP has an announcement about the Hobbit actually beginning to be produced, it probably makes sense for Stern to release the game alongside the new movie; piggyback on all that free publicity.

#4090 8 years ago

Who cares when they announce it?

#4186 8 years ago

#4226 8 years ago
Quoted from Skyemont:

Why can't pics be posted? What's the big deal???

Stern has to **pretend** that the pics are **leaked**.

Robin is playing his part, pretending that he believes the pictures are leaked.

The pics are all over the net, if you have the google.

It's not like the nighttime cleaning crew is booting up the computers, rendering output and mailing it to their friends.

#4232 8 years ago
Quoted from Chambahz:

Why would Stern leak anything when they could just announce it?

It was just like Stern's "Zombies!" picture post. Put a tiny hint out to foil a competitor's announcement, and then almost 2 years latter release TWD.

Quoted from Chambahz:

Just because you don't think someone would risk their job, doesn't mean they didn't do exactly that.

About 3 people on this forum know exactly where those picture were **leaked** from.

No one's job at Stern is in jeopardy.

#4345 8 years ago
Quoted from guyincognito:

In honor of the 1984 release date of Ghostbusters, Stern should replace the monochrome DMD with a 7 digit LED score display.
laser-cue_(resized).jpg

That would badass if they did 80s style backglass, score displays and backbox.

#4350 8 years ago

What if Stern never makes a LCD, and people just keep enjoying playing pinball?

#4391 8 years ago
Quoted from kpg:

It's 2016. No one still expects black and white content anymore.

Sometimes the **art** just requires it.

Think of how great "A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night (2015)" was. It would not have been nearly as effective in color.

Or "Ed Wood", or "Sin City" or ..... great art is how the artist wants us to perceive it.

-

Great artistic fun would be if Stern did 4 numeric displays, a real mirrored backglass and FM Synth music score - total 80s immersion.

#4396 8 years ago
Quoted from kpg:

If DMD's do not ADD to the experience, why keep them in there?

That's what I'm saying.

Get rid of the DMD and get some cool numeric displays.

#4399 8 years ago

It's got to be 1980's to be true to the era.

#4400 8 years ago
Quoted from kpg:

If your point was valid, someone should come out with a BlackandWhiteDMD.com site and sell B&W DMD's "upgrades" instead of ColorDMD.com - because you are saying it would be somehow 'better' with your movie analogy?

You have not seen the badass all black and white TZs ?

o_(resized).jpgo_(resized).jpg

#4401 8 years ago
Quoted from Pinballlew:

I just want to see a LCD to attract additional younger players in the wild.

WOZ is out in the wild, it is a "kid friendly" theme, and yet it has not set the world on fire - not even with the youth.

The number one earning game again this month is WNBJM - a game with a score reel.

#4405 8 years ago
Quoted from Pinballlew:

So the score reel on WNBJM set the world on fire?

Number-one-earning-game-in-the-country.

-

No color DMD, no LCD, no Alpha Numeric Displays; just raw earning power.

#4434 8 years ago
Quoted from kpg:

We all know WNBJM gets quarters and earns a lot because of the artwork appealing to horny men, not because it actually is a great game.

Do you even know what the hell are you talking about?

WNBJM is a GREAT playing game.

#4437 8 years ago
Quoted from kpg:

why people compare this simple game and simple display system with games with LCD's based on earnings is a bit weird to me.

So, should Stern only crank out games like this from now on?

Stern should keep putting out a variety of different style games.

Just because you can't find value in WNBJM, the coin spending public likes it more than any other pin right now.

That's what is important.

#4440 8 years ago
Quoted from Pinballlew:

What is the percentage of machines purchased for the home market vs operations? Any clue anyone?

Gary Stern said that currently almost 20% of games went to collectors.

#4442 8 years ago

Electric Eel vs Fathom Ghost (from coast to coast).

I'm glad there are tits in pinball again

#4444 8 years ago
Quoted from kpg:

Definitely not people who like machines in their house.

Again, I'm not sure you know what you are talking about.

I have a WNBJM in my house.

So do 3 of my clients that I service.

It is a hard game, with great rules and great layout.

#4448 8 years ago
Quoted from kpg:

Apparently your point is that WNBJM is making more money than any other game because of its retro format and display.

No, you are missing the point.

WNBJM is making the most money because it is a great game.

Quoted from kpg:

So why wouldn't you think GB would do better in that format.

If GB is a great game, it will have to stand on it's own merits.

Score reels, LCD, DMD, Alpha....nothing will save it if it's not a great game.

#4454 8 years ago
Quoted from kpg:

If I'm laying $7-8K for a machine in 2016, I want it to come with a ColorDMD from the factory

OK, great.

That's what YOU want in a game.

Noted.

#4456 8 years ago
Quoted from kpg:

That's implying that I am the only one who wants that in a game

Don't get all defensive, lol.

#4462 8 years ago
Quoted from kpg:

Enjoy the machine

Thank you, sir.

#4465 8 years ago
Quoted from kpg:

Regarding WNBJM... LOL. This is why GB should in no way resemble, play, or have any clear distinction to the game

Yawn.

#4483 8 years ago
Quoted from kpg:

Yeah, it would be so much cooler...

game_metallicaprem.jpg

But GB is an 80s theme, so the game would need 80s Numeric displays to carry it over the top.

You did not really see too many score reels after the late 70s.

#4487 8 years ago
Quoted from DCFAN:

Same could be said for Metallica since they were primarily and 80's band.

That's true.

I would gladly trade a cartoon puking snake for all 80's Metallica songs......

#4553 8 years ago
Quoted from tacshose:

If February passes with no announcement I think this thread will die

That's great material.

Even if GB does not get released until July, this thread will slog onward with anxious and hopeful posts.

#4653 8 years ago
Quoted from pinchamp:

Didn't Ritchie say in the interview that SMVE will be Sterns last DMD game? Someone told me this but I have not confirmed... Anyone hear that?

I've been hearing that since 2009

#4662 8 years ago

If Stern's new backbox is a holographic display, Pinsiders will complain that they can't actually interact 360* like a holodeck.

"Yeah, I do expect 360* immersion for my $x,xxxx !!" - Pinside

#4681 8 years ago
Quoted from kpg:

I think people are mostly wondering why the #1 pinball manufacturer in the world (Stern) has the oldest and most outdated display technology on the market compared to every single other competitor.

You guys keep buying them, so Stern keeps making what you guys buy.

#4689 8 years ago
Quoted from kpg:

You know, Apple should seriously take your wise business advice, they would probably make more money. They should just continue to make iPhone 6S phones, and just release all new iPhones with the same exact technology, year after year- because clearly, sales are strong and people keep buying them.

I see you don't follow the markets.

Apple sales are declining.

Apple is not adding enough new features to encourage people buy new phones and the cellphone market in China is becoming saturated too.

Quoted from Jackontherocks:

I know Stern said they will never do a wide body but would like to see how much more we could get in a game from them one day in the new world. Seems like a lot of competitors are doing wide body's and we get a lot more in the games for similar prices.

There are 76 widebody pin titles out in the world right now.

Stern could make more if they really felt the need. But right now they have record sales with normal body pins.

Sony normally starts planing the merchandising 2 years before a movie premiers, but for the GB reboot, they started even earlier.

If Sony is somehow putting the brakes on the pinball announcement, we will all know soon enough.

Quoted from Eskaybee:

Forgive me if this has been discussed; but has any speculation been made on who's doing the call outs if a retro GB is done? I mean, I doubt they could get any of the actors -

The 2009 Ghostbusters video game had Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Bill Murray, Ernie Hudson, William Atherton, Brian Doyle-Murray, and Annie Potts all doing their own voice acting.

Quoted from frolic:

The company is not exactly known to be marketing titans. They still promote their machines with flyers, and going to trade shows. Not exactly cutting edge. It is what it is.

But in all fairness, they also promote their games with excellently produced game videos (and include little hints in the background of forthcoming games), appearances on The Price Is Right, non pinball events like The Consumer Electronics Show, their factory is featured on geeky shows like How Its Made and Made In America, featured in The Pinball Arcade, and even on shows for boring housewives like Good Morning America.

Short of producing a virtual tour on Oculus Rift, how much more "cutting edge" can they get?

Quoted from frolic:

If I were to fault Stern marketing in any way, it's that they should do more to drive location play, and direct people in that direction (beyond GS lecturing expo goers to get out of their basements).

Stern used to have a "pinball finder" on their website, but when Pinside's finder totally eclipsed it, they obviously took it down.

But it was ahead of it's time back when they did have it.

I just looked through the first twenty pages of this thread, are there any pictures of this GB pin?
