Quoted from Kineticross:

Ghostbusters has the best sound of any machine currently in production. Disagree with me all you want, but it's true.

Find that hard to believe (that it's better than TH) but I can't downvote cause I haven't heard GB live yet...

Quoted from jonesjb:

Agreed, and I suspect that the magnet will be slightly in front of sling (since the magnet can only attract metal, and can't repel). So when it's pulsed on, it's actually turned on for a very short period of time, and pulling the ball away from the rubber then releasing, very similar to how the Shadow sanctum lock propels the ball up with just a pulse. Now if there were multiple magnets in some sort of arrangement, a pattern of pulse could even apply specific directions to the ball.

I'm thinking the magnet may be slightly behind rubber, then it could catch the ball, hold it, then release and the ball could slingshot over the other side where it could be caught by the other sling...so if programmed properly you could have a game of catch.
Also if the magnet where to catch the ball it could release to the flipper if the power was reduced slowly. Interesting things to be done...

Quoted from ArcadiusMaximus:

Why couldn't the magnet repel the ball? All they would have to do is reverse the polarity of the magnet and you can attract or repel right?

For this to happen the magnet would have to be located on the playfield surface otherwise it would "repel" the ball upwards into the glass...

Quoted from Tseamans:

For those wondering what they look like under the playfield.

From the pic those magnets look like they are on the outside of the slings. I thought they would be inside so as to drag the ball towards the slings then release...

Quoted from rai:

No, they pull the ball away from the slings. Also JT said they'll be able to throw the ball up the PF or play catch between the two magnets, couldn't do that if the magnet was under the sling.

I'm pretty sure they could play catch with the ball if the magnet was behind the slings but if they want to throw the ball UP the playfield I imagine the way they have it now is better...

Quoted from docquest:

The magnet won't activate until the ball hits the physical switch at the sling rubber. If the magnet was under the sling it wouldn't be able to kick the ball away from the sling like a mechanical sling would. So the magnet needs to be outside the sling. There could be other times where the slings would activate without the sling switch being hit to do specialized ghost tricks.

The magnet would pulse sucking the ball into the rubber sling and then release, that's how it would "kick" the ball away. Anyways, i'm sure it's better the way they have done it.

He's pretty much a pile of goo already

Quoted from Rarehero:

What you're seeing in this video is pretty much how a magnet would act in a switch test. You're just seeing a generic "quick pulse" rather than an actual programmed effect. While I don't think they'll ever act like real slings, in gameplay I don't think you're going to see that "pull back & drop" effect you're seeing in this test video. Pinball magnets can actually do good fling tricks, such as in The Shadow (flinging it into the Sanctum) and Spider-Man (whipping it back at the player, or flinging it into Doc Ock's saucer).

I think you're getting a generic double quick pulse...the first pulse pulls the ball back, the second pulse is timed so that the ball is behind the magnet when it fires (a second time) and (depending on the angle) this pulls it back towards the sling. Then it repeats when sling is hit again. If you want the ball to shoot off (more or less) like a regular sling then only pulse it once.

Not to crap on the parade but if you look at the clearcoat reflection in these pics, it doesn't seem very thick, you can see the wood grain... I thought Stern was getting better with their clearcoats...
