ADDED: Ghostbusters 2 is garbage. I've tried many times to enjoy the film - can't. Still... wish the new one was "in continuity" such as the women start a Ghostbusting franchise.

Hard to believe a guy who loves hacking controllers so much didn't like Ghostbusters 2.

The pic and supposed description of cab art are on reddit.com/r/pinball for anyone who thinks the game will be cancelled due to posting leaked art.

Can we remove "speculation" from this thread now?

If we confirm the discussion isn't speculative anymore this thread will be removed as a courtesy to Stern.

I can't wait for the shitty sexy alternate translites to start appearing on Ebay. Maybe we can get one with the new female ghostbusters and one with Bill Murray being slimed.

Quoted from flynnibus:

So what do people think the right ramp return is doing on the pro? You have that whole wierd bulge area where the ramp is on the prem/LE
This photo
http://www.pinballnews.com/games/ghostbusters/8a.jpg
Shows the piece just downstream of the right ramp entrance mounted to the side of the ramp return. Looks like it could be a magnet divertor.. and it could pull the ball away from the regular ball return path into the bulge area.. where it would go down behind the storage area plastic.. and then drop down through the ramp to the playfield.. and into the storage saucer.. and then be a virtual lock.

That's what it looks like to me. The whole right ramp on the pro seems really unique with all that going on. I don't know how shots into a one-way wire gate will feel, but we'll see. It's more interesting than a right ramp that just loops back around to the left inlane.

Ghostbusters topper is 100% kickass. I'll always take fancy lights over an action figure or something. KISS is my favorite topper I've seen in person I think.

#7117 8 years ago

Hmmm.

#7122 8 years ago
Quoted from Manic:

In all seriousness I think we need to see the magnet kickers and hologram to differentiate this thing from all the others. Then I'll be hyped!

I definitely see things I like. The ball sometimes rockets out of the pops instead of just losing momentum and being pooped out. There were a bunch of nice hand drawn DMD animations like the flying library books and captured ghosts rather than barely decipherable red movie clips. It looks like they're trying to make the skillshot worthwhile rather than just some low amount of points (+10% score, +super jackpot, etc.).

Maybe just me, but these are positive things on top of already very good looking package. I wish this were the "average game", I'm very excited to get my hands on one.

Quoted from indypinhead:

OK...I missed it.
Stern announced a topper for GB?

It's on their Facebook page on the "pre livestream" video right at the beginning.

#7151 8 years ago
Quoted from Esoteric_rt:

Has anyone seen them hit the right ramp yet? Want to see how that works

It gets hit at 30:00 and 33:50 but they rattle and don't go all the way to the back. Not a lot of people shooting for it, it looks tight.

#7185 8 years ago

I love all the motion in the bash toy. Some people say "Everything you hit in pinball is a bash toy, you hit stuff with the ball!" but this is moving all over place, it really looks like it's getting hit good. And this is just the pro, the premium will move around the playfield too. I don't really like Stern's big action figure bash toys, so this looks like their best one ever to me.

Quoted from PinballManiac40:

I'm guessing that most Pinsiders will rate Ghostbusters as an overall 9.5. I'm sure there will be a lot of 10 votes as soon as voting is allowed on this game. Move on over MM, as you had finally met your match.

The looks awesome which means plenty of people will get to play it on location, which means plenty of people will be rating it 4.5 "Just another boring Stern" to cancel out the "I own this game so it's a perfect 10!" votes.

#7500 8 years ago
Quoted from emkay:

I love your optimism! New here?

This thread is hardly full of complaints. Look at GOT, they had to make a separate "POSITIVE THOUGHTS ONLY" thread because of all the heat that game got.

#7530 8 years ago
Quoted from scott_freeman:

But how does GB play?
Quoting your observation, so after you play the GB we can look back.

You can't douse all enthusiasm for a game because we don't know what the code will look like in 2 years. What can we see right now?

1. Great art
2. Cool unique toys/playfield features and lots of them
3. Nothing about the layout that's looks so non-standard that I really need hands on the machine to understand how it feels (Starchild area, WWE ring, etc.). Magna slings is the biggest question mark.

Even without playing games, you can often look at recent Stern reveals and say they look great except the art, the pro is too stripped down, it's a cookie cutter layout, too symmetrical, it's light on toys, it's a crappy theme, the ball is going to spend too much time in that ring, etc. Maybe Ghostbusters can't prove itself as a great game yet, but in my eyes there's almost nothing to be pessimistic about either.

#7573 8 years ago

Slimer moving up and down and all around to different shots on the premium is like the magic flying dragon everyone wanted for GOT. There must've been a mixup.

#7658 8 years ago
Quoted from Rob_G:

This might not be a noob friendly game at all which could impact earnings on location.

This is anecdotal of course, but there's a nice easy Scared Stiff next to a TWD at a local bar and noobs still line up to watch 3 balls go STDM from the pop bumpers on TWD. Theme is a hell of a drug.

#7660 8 years ago
Quoted from Jvspin:

I think it would be more exciting if they gave each multiplication level a different name and sound callout. Ie., Jackpot, Super Jackpot, Mega ..., Mega Super, etc...
I like when you can tell what you're collecting by the sound alone.

If they bring in Sauramon to do the callouts this would be perfect.

#7849 8 years ago
Quoted from Ed209:

We have a GOTLE on location here and the VUK to the upper playfield has already started to fail. Are other GOTLE's running into this problem? Really kills the rhythm of the game if it takes 6 or more attempts to pop a ball up there. Seems like an easy fix but the few times I've popped in the VUK had the same problem. Put a real bad taste in my mouth compared to the pro they used to have.

VUK, left orbit, ball falling off the throne, I love me some GOTLE but can see it being a pain on location. It seems like a game that needs an operator who gives a shit about a game playing very well and not one who keeps their games in "just working" condition.

#7855 8 years ago
Quoted from Leachdude:

This is assuming it is just 2 plastics with 2 LED's in them, now if it is motors and mech's involved ok it'll be $499.

They better be motorized, then slowly cross in the middle and when they do the lights go crazy

#8107 8 years ago
Quoted from Kineticross:

I don't know why people are complaining about the wide flipper gap. For a while, people were upset about how easy Stern machines were to play, so now they have a machine where there's tough shots and a wide flipper gap but they're not happy

I've never got tired of a pinball machine for being too hard. I do look at some games and think "I don't have time/stamina to play this for 20 minutes" though.

I agree. Wish you could custom order the cab/trans. Would be cool to pick and choose. Would also be a nice revenue stream for stern.
my preferences in order:
1) Pro
2) Premium
3-5) Portraits of Rosie O'Donnell
6) Slimer LE

The LE is my least favorite, but because I like the others more. It's not bad at all . Stern makes enough stuff that looks like crap to take your hate out on.

Quoted from PanzerFreak:

I never understood the desire for less toys because they "slow" the ball down. At some point these crazy NIB price tags need to be backed up by items that interact with the ball. Speed / flow is only worth so much when the price tag is $5k- $8k. Toys that slow down the ball like the hammer in MET, the gumball machine in TZ, the spinning magnet in XMEN, etc are the types of items I expect in modern pins. Those types of toys make pinball fun and I've never considered them a negative for a game. Physical ball locks, items that grab the ball, mini playfields and other interactive toys only increase the fun factor in my eyes.
Thankfully GB premium / LE is loaded up with a ton of interactive features to back up it's high price tag, that's how it should be.

You've got to change your way of thinking to figure out how the Pro Police are going to claim Ghostbusters Pro is categorically better than Ghostbusters Premium. The magna-slings will be a pro-power target for sure. The subway ramp is going to "ruin the flow". Maybe the Ecto Goggles block vision of the right orbit!

#8209 8 years ago
Quoted from tiltmonster:

For GB, to me the potential negative on that ramp is if the balls don't fire out of the ramp quickly enough for my tastes from the bottom. I also want to see this right ramp in action - when I thought it looped and went shooting down the left ramp entry, I thought that was great. Knowing it comes back, well... it it stays on the ramp too long, it might not be my thing.

Some earlier info "confirmed" (I don't know who) that the ramp is like Whitewater, it doesn't get stopped by a VUK. Balls get diverted underneath for the lock (and I would guess pop back up out of the scoop). If the ramp went to a VUK every time that would be a bummer, it's something I don't like about Party Zone

#8211 8 years ago

If there was any powered launch up to the right inlane, I would suspect that more than a spring steel flap would be needed to prevent the ball from flying up too far. But I'm no pinball engineer. Momentum for the win!

Quoted from jawjaw:

I have no idea how you married guys keep the peace buying pin after pin. I'm not married but do have 3 kids. When I ask them if we should get this or that pin, I get six thumbs up. It's great!

When my girlfriend moved in there was pinball in the garage, game room, hallway, and kitchen. Now there's no pinball in the kitchen so as long as I keep it that way she'll see it as an improvement no matter what I do. Gotta establish territorial dominance early.

#8240 8 years ago

Ohh, I never noticed the ramp was bigger on the LE. I can't stop switching between the pictures of the two now. Someone's going to complain that ruins the game for sure

#8243 8 years ago
Quoted from MnHotRod:

While playing GB at TPF with MnPinball, he was able to correctly answer every time. We were approaching closing time for the night, and the people behind us were restless, it felt like it took a long time. When he was able to get ever question correct, people behind us were asking what the tricks was. While some may be complaining about this video mode, the bonus for getting everything right was over 200 million.

Being able to get it right every time somehow seems like just as much no skill as random chance would be, unless it's something he has to figure out mentally (not sure how it would work). Oh well, it's a video mode, we'll see how it goes. It's not like anyone ever has high hopes for video mode.

I think Stern caught it

pasted_image_(resized).pngpasted_image_(resized).png

#8432 8 years ago

I hope the Prem/LE ramp isn't too tough to hit. Weak flippers are the main problem ops don't really care to fix around me. LOTR ring shots are a bitch on a lot of locations for example.

#8453 8 years ago

You guys had me comparing the ramps and I just noticed the little reflector for the PKE inserts. That's a welcome addition from moving my head around on GOT LE trying to see behind all the nonsense.

2_(resized).png2_(resized).pngpasted_image_(resized).pngpasted_image_(resized).png

#8483 8 years ago
Quoted from playernumber4:

Does anyone else think there is way too much of the bright white 5K type of lighting? It does not look like many color changing inserts or anywhere else.

I'm totally fine with that.

I'd honestly be worried if every new Stern became a rainbow wonderland just to add RGB LEDs to the feature matrix. I love the look of TWD Pro in all white/red with splashes of yellow. I think GOT would've greatly benefited from a strong lighting theme like that.

#8490 8 years ago

What drama is there? I thought we were talking about how it may be on location if unmaintained, or just the different feel/difficulty of a very steep ramp? Maybe I prefer shallower ramps and play plenty of games on location like Hook and LOTR where I can't hit tough shots with bad flippers, GB still looks amazing.

#8495 8 years ago

In a frictionless environment, work is the same since the only force we're fighting is gravity. In the real world with friction, different distances travelled, and ramps of different materials... I think one of the top local players teaches physics maybe I can get him in here.

Quoted from PW79:

You guys ever feel like we're all a bunch of babbling dweebs obsessing over shit that has to make Stern laugh?

What the hell are you talking about.

14
#8563 8 years ago
Quoted from PanzerFreak:

Overall the ruleset appears to be as deep as LOTR if not deeper in my opinion.

Let's reel it in just a little until we play it. What makes a rule set is how everything fits together, not just how many rules there are. LOTR has 3 types of rings (ghosts), 5 multiballs all with unique ways to qualify and most with multiple stages, "final modes" to cap off all the main things you can do in the game (TaBA, Ring Frenzy, Destroy the Ring)...

IJ4 has a lot of modes and MBs (20!) and they're all boring and tedious to qualify. Not saying GB will be, but being lengthy and full of modes doesn't equal LOTR.

#8575 8 years ago
Quoted from SkillShot:

What about backhanding the LE/Premium ramp, wonder if that will be an issue.

KISS' right ramp looks like the best comparison to me. It's a tough ramp but possible to backhand.

lol - hear are some Viagra Bats longest is the 3 1/8"
all of Trudeau's games are that gap and you get use to it and if anything helps you you switch to other games, don't stress about it?
flipper_bats_1_(resized).png

Lol if any wimps actually put longer flippers on this game.

#8682 8 years ago
Quoted from tiltmonster:

TBH, I'm not even sure what we are looking at....

I think we're talking about the art not extending all the way to the rail on the left outlane?

pasted_image_(resized).pngpasted_image_(resized).png

#8684 8 years ago
Quoted from Mando:

Yes thats whats ill the talk it about, and frankly who cares! Looks fine to me, thing is made of wood I am ok with seeing a little wood

Wait until the people complaining about that see the shooter lane.

#8692 8 years ago
Quoted from chatplume51:

hi anybody know something about the mag slingshot ?

I hear they're steep as hell and going to ruin the game.

#8695 8 years ago
Quoted from chatplume51:

so the pro could a better choice,no ?

I would speculate all day with you because I'm excited for the game and there's nothing else to talk about until they start shipping out, but without seeing 3 seconds of the Prem/LE in action there's just nothing to talk about yet.

Quoted from zr11990:

So why does a American company give other countries their stuff first?

So those damn foreigners can deal with the first-run problems. Make America Great Again.

#8855 8 years ago

I don't like video modes but wouldn't ever disable in settings unless it popped up multiple times in every single game or something. AFM's once-per-game video mode is perfectly fine. Black Rose is a little overboard.

#8859 8 years ago

I actually enjoy the AFM video mode a lot because I'm a Missile Command fan, but can totally see it as a chore otherwise. MM is a better example. Video mode should be an uncommon reward since if it happens too often it feels like the game is making you take a mandatory break from having fun.

#9104 8 years ago
Quoted from PanzerFreak:

Ghostbusters 4K UHD BluRay news. This sucks regarding the cover. I think the way the cover on the first films UHD release is being handled is rather disrespectful to Ernie Hudson and his character.
https://www.yahoo.com/tv/one-ghostbuster-didn-t-cover-203200700.html

Must be a tribute to the NES game where there are only 3 Ghostbusters. I wonder if the missing one is Winston...

Quoted from Propaganda:

Everyone knows, these "innovative" machines (missing traditional features) are highly rated in our community.
Let's build a list so we can prove it and shut this asshole up.

Like Shadow, JD, Champion Pub, Junk Yard...? I was only checking the top 100 though, should I go deeper into games like SOF and No Fear? Are you sarcastically arguing that innovative pins suck?

#10167 8 years ago

Magna slings look like they kill the balls momentum which is the opposite of what slings usually do. Definitely can't say I think they look great, still firmly "wait and see" territory for me. The effect is neat, if it slows the ball down a lot I can see the Prem/LE being easier.

#10208 8 years ago
Quoted from turbo20lbs:

I'm going with FAIL on this first video. Especially since they weren't even playing the game.
The worst part is there was ZERO side to side action between the slings.

Meh the more I watch it the more I don't think it means much. They were throwing really soft shots at the slings mostly and the slings were set to grab the ball back after shooting it away. The most exciting thing about the slings is that the software can change how they react, if we get traditional one-shot slings sometimes, weird ghosty slings other times I think it could still be something I want more than regular slings.

Even though I'm still very wait-and-see on magna slings I'm sure the second they show a video during multiball I'm going to think it's so stupid and awesome that I'm totally onboard with the premium.

#10226 8 years ago
Quoted from PW79:

No matter how good/bad the slings/ramps are on the Premium/pro...
The next game will have an LCD according to Stern

Will the next game have STEEP RAMPS though?
