Hey Doug. Speaking of Pinburgh banks, how many banks of four games will be set-up? I figured 700 players/4 players = 175 groups. 175/3 groups per bank = 58.33 banks, so a minimum of 59 banks. So how many banks do you think the tourney will have set up?

    #48 5 years ago
    Quoted from ninjadoug:

There will be 60 Pinburgh banks with 3 groups per bank.
In addition we will have 12 backup banks

Thanks Doug! I think it is so cool that you know going in what the banks will consist of, but you will only play 10 of them and you never know what they will be until it's time to play them! You look at the banks and think "There's a dream bank for me" but then you never get to play it. Then you get a bank where you are very familiar with one of the games, but don't really know the other three. So you then proceed to stink it up on the one that you know, and just crush it on the other three! All the while meeting new players and also getting to play against players that everyone knows well. So cool! It lasts for 3 days and it's over in the blink of an eye.

You could bust out some entries in between rounds, or better, during the dinner break. That's what I hope to do.

Any updates to the Pinburgh2015 rules coming out soon? On the PAPA website everything still refers to the 2014 rules. I'm particularly interested in Division restrictions, schedule, finals format(like, how many players get byes with 40 from each division advancing)? I know you guys are busting your butts behind the scenes. I'm just jonesing for info.

Judging by Doug's Pinside name, two of them are surely TMNT and SoF!

    #102 5 years ago

That is correct. Last year the consolation tourney prizes were no joke! However, the format was pretty brutal. Groups of 3 played a single game. Winner advanced, the other 2 were done. Not sure if it will follow the same format this year or not. It has to be set up to knock out a lot of players each round, since approx. 540 players will be eligible.

I would not be surprised if it was groups of 4 with one player advancing this year.

You may get to play against some top notch players in the consolation tourney. Last 2 years I have played Damien, Zach, and Lyman all in the consolation tourney.

    #112 5 years ago

Good info on the consolation tourney. But it's no help for me. I'll be playing in the A div finals this year!

Looks like the Pinburgh rules have now been updated for 2015. You can find them here....

Not for me. I can see all the way to Zig Zag WMS 1964.

Mr. Polka, do you think the banks might get posted this weekend? I feel like I've got some studying to do.

    #187 5 years ago
    Quoted from funtimewithdave:

    2 questions after reading http://papa.org/papa-tournaments/official-rules/pinburgh-rules/
"...players in the top 500 of the IFPA’s World Pinball Player Rankings as of July 1, 2015 are restricted to A, B, and C Division."
Anybody have a guestimation on how many of these players are attending? Lets say 250 or so? So 250 out of the ~525 spots in A/B/C already spoken for? Dang!
"During each session, all players will be assigned to a group. A set of four games...... Sessions are scheduled for 2 hours and 15 minutes"
We have 2 hours and 15 minutes to play 3, four player games? Dang thats quite a wait if your group goes quicker than some others. I believe I remember there being mention of a cash bar...............

It's four 4 player games. 3 groups of players will be assigned to the 4 games. You cannot skip games, you must play them in order. If one group goes long, the other groups must wait for them to finish. This format will wear you out, so you will come to appreciate any down time between rounds!

The show was amazing. Pinburgh was fantastic and a true test of endurance with the concrete floors. I was super impressed by the whole thing, and this was my 4th Pinburgh. Not my best showing, but a respectable 106th in A division. I did get to play Jorian Englebreksston in round 9, and lots of other great players along the way. I got to play Dave Stewart in the consolation round, only to have him absolutely blow up Cactus Canyon on ball 1.

Here are a few pictures from the trip. Pay attention to The Man, The Myth, The Legend, Jon Replogle!

When do we get to see the Pinburgh group photo?

Well, not the official one, but here is my version.

There was also a Taxi with the PAPA logo on the glass.

I can barely remember but it seems like it was between session 3 and 4 on the first day.

    #631 5 years ago

OK, I checked my phone and the picture was taken on the second day, between rounds 7 and 8. I think round 8 started immediately after the photo. How could anyone miss Mark on the second floor getting everyone to scream in unison, not once but twice?

    Quoted from triadwatch:

To anyone who drove a car and parked at convention center or stayed at Westin. They wanted $12 for event and if over 12 hours they doubled to $24 at convention center parking. Then Westin was $25 or $24 a day . If you want to save money on parking we found the Amtrak parking station 2 blocks away was $14 a day . We kept our car there till Sunday to save a little bit of money.

Yes, thanks for the tip. Mind pretty much blown when we left the convention center parking garage on Monday AM. $112 !

    Quoted from initfo:

Not to brag, but if you stayed at the Hampton down the street, parking was free.

It's good info. How much were the rooms at the Hampton? Also, for anyone who stayed at the Courtyard, how much were the rooms there and did they have free parking as well?

I ask because we stayed at the Westin and noticed the Courtyard is actually a little bit closer to the convention center. The Westin was pricey, even if you did manage to get the replayfx rate.

    #651 5 years ago

Westin was 158.46/per night after taxes. That was with the Replayfx special price. I had heard someone got a room at the Courtyard for $70/night. Priceline maybe?

Oh, and there is no if about replayfx. There were already talking about next years plans during the PAPA broadcast. I'm just looking to save a little $$$ next year!

BTW, I thought Ten Penny's food pretty much sucked but Bill's Burgers in the Westin was quite good. We ate at both places twice. The little hole in the wall Gyro place next to Ten Penny was good and had good prices.

    #669 5 years ago

Yeah, the more players and especially the more new players the longer it takes. Louisville results took about a month to get posted.
