I have a lot of the same praise of the show as most people. I will just hit a few bullet point and also say that I just had an amazing time this week. Congrats to the PAPA crew, you did a fantastic job!
-Pinburgh is far and away the best tournament I have ever played in. The way it is set up and the efficiency with which it was conducted was nearly perfect.
-I managed to qualify for the finals in B Division which blew my mind (went in hoping I would make it into C) and earned all of my ticket and entry fee money back, plus some
-The variety of the machines was outstanding! 99% of them played great.
-It wasn't too loud in the convention hall even when it was going full bore and there was a band playing. The room did a nice job of absorbing the sound. I didn't have to shout like I do when I go to TPF.
-Downtown Pittsburgh is great. It is pretty clean and the food is pretty cheap and good.
-Uber and the Bus are the best ways to get around IMO. Rode the bus back to the airport. Only cost me $3.75 and was a nice relaxing ride and ran on time.
-The videogames were a lot of fun and brought back a lot of memories.
-The atmosphere was very arcade like, so they succeeded there for sure.
-Todd McCullough is really freaking tall!
-Jon Replogle singing Barry White was amazing
-I agree there needs to be a score board for the finals. I was sitting next to Bowen and Keith Johnson during the semifinals and even they were having a hard time keeping track of the scores.
-They need more seating or bleachers for the finals. There seemed to be roughly 200-300 people standing and watching the finals and there only about 100 seats, tops. It was such a great spectator event otherwise.
-Overall I had a great experience with all of the players in Pinburgh save a few. There were a couple of "angry guys" I had to play with that just made it miserable for the other players in the group. But other than that, I found most players very friendly and a lot of fun to play with. I had one guy rage tilt through on my last ball of the last game and kill all of my progress on that game and didn't even apologize.
I am already looking forward to next year. Congrats to Mark and the PAPA crew for such an amazing show! I hope it was worth your while.
Tenpenny was pretty good, as was Bill's. They also weren't too expensive given they were downtown next to or in the hotels.
Quoted from robotronjohn:
VIP discounts.. Had to argue with the guy at the merchandise booth. He kept telling me without my "ticket" I got no discount, badge means nothing despite the VIP status. Then a lady told him there was no "ticket" but we had to ask for the discount. Then I was informed it was a ONE TIME USE. Wait, WHAT? No mention on any documentation or website that we would only get one use for a discount. This needs to be CLEAR in the future.
ya, that needs to be addressed.
