I'm getting lots of questions on ReplayFX from Pinsiders, so I thought I'd consolidate the updates into one thread.

I'll post the updates we have put out there so far and any other news worthy announcements that come out.

The ReplayFX Arcade & Gaming Festival, held July 30 – August 1, 2015 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, will include over 700 arcade and pinball machines, thousand of console games, guest speakers, entertainers, live music, and more! If you are interested in bringing games, vending at the festival, or in learning more, please get in touch. Tickets are available now!

    Media Partnership:

The ReplayFX Arcade & Gaming Festival has agreed to a media partnership with Clear Channel radio properties 105.9 WXDX, 102.5 WDVE, and 94.5 3WS. Attendees in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania market can expect to hear promotion and prize give-a-ways on these stations this summer!

    Pinburgh:

Tickets for the Pinburgh Match-Play Pinball Championship went on sale December 7, and all 700 reservations sold out in under ten hours. We are extremely grateful at the outpouring of support for Pinburgh and ReplayFX within the pinball community. The tournament continues to grow every year, and we thank all players for their generosity.

We also want to remind everyone that the last day for full refunds on Pinburgh tournament registrations is March 31, 2015. From April 1, 2015 forward, only partial refunds will be given. Fifty players remain on the Pinburgh waitlist, and we still expect at least that amount of turnover before the beginning of the event. If you are a pinball player who is interested in participating in the largest tournament in history, please visit our website and sign up for the Pinburgh waitlist. Players are also reminded they will need to purchase their Daily, Full-event, or VIP passes to go along with their Pinburgh reservations prior to July 30, 2015 in order to be allowed to participate.

The full list of Pinburgh players and waitlist is continually updated on the ReplayFX website. Please check today to ensure your name is in place and spelled correctly.

Also, since we still get this question a lot, all games will be on free-play All festival passes include access to vendors, live music, seminars, console, tabletop, strolling entertainers, daily challenges, and more.

    Kong Off:

In other big-time news, Richie “the King of Arcades” Knucklez will be bringing The Kong Off 4, otherwise known as the greatest Donkey Kong tournament ever conceived by human-kind, to ReplayFX! Billy Mitchell, Steve Wiebe, Hank Chien, Robbie Lakeman, Walter Day, and Joel West are all confirmed to be attending. If you know anything about Richie, you know he has an exciting tournament planned, and the ReplayFX crew will be doing everything in our power to help make it awesome! More information will be available on this exciting event soon!

If you’re in the New Jersey area, we recommend you stop by Richie Knucklez Arcade in Flemington to show your support! Look it up, you won’t be disappointed!

    Walter Day’s Replay World Championship:

It is impossible to discuss classic arcade tournaments without mentioning Walter Day, the original video game referee, the founder of Twin Galaxies, and a man once honored at the Smithsonian Museum for his part in an exhibit entitled “The Art of Video Games”. The crew at the ReplayFX Arcade & Gaming Festival have been working diligently with Walter over the past several months and are proud to finally announce details to the first ever arcade tournament known as “Walter Day’s Replay World Championship.”

This tournament will offer a $5,000 prize pool and will be open to all competitors. A $25 entry fee will gain each competitor 25 attempts across eight classic video games from the golden-era of arcades. The format has been designed with the intent of introducing a little bit of luck, and a whole lot of fun, into the process. We encourage players of all skill levels and ages to participate. Tournament details are available now!

    Malicious Cosplay:

The cosplay competition at ReplayFX will be run by our friend Kim at Malicious Cosplay! Kim has been a strong presence in the cosplay community for years and will be joined by a talented team of creative professionals. The cosplay contest held at ReplayFX will offer a $1500 grand prize for Best in Show and an additional $1500 spread between the winners of several additional categories. Fifty openings are available for pre-registration at ReplayFX.org, and an additional 25 openings will be made available at the festival. Participation is free with purchase of a festival pass, but contestants must go through a pre-judging process before being included. More information on the contest is available now.

We’re proud to announce the official hiring of several magicians, face painters, and the six live bands listed below!

    The OneUps

Looks like the link for the waitlist on PinBurgh is bad. Says it is a bad waitlist link when it sends me to eventbrite.

    #11 4 years ago

There is a waitlist at the bottom of the registered player list here.
    http://replayfx.org/competitions/pinburgh/

    #12 4 years ago

I saw that, but the link to sign up for the waitlist doesn't work, so I am unable to sign up for the waitlist.

    #13 4 years ago

    Ah, misunderstood the issue.

Roger went on to work for several notable companies and was regularly involved with decisions that helped shape the industry.

Roger's sons, Josh and Zach, are two of the most skilled competitive pinball players in the world and are President and Vice President of the IFPA. The IFPA is home to the World Pinball Player Rankings, a system that currently ranks over 20,000 competitive pinball players.

Moderator Nate Shivers runs the highly popular Coast 2 Coast Pinball podcast, bringing industry news and interviews to the gaming community.

The lineup of seminars at ReplayFX is filling out. We still expect more to be added, but the current details are below.

    Friday, July 31, 2015

4:30pm: ACAM Presents Steve Golson: From Crazy Otto to Ms. Pac-Man

Steve Golson, one of the original developers of Ms. Pac-Man at General Computer Corporation (GCC), will recount little-known stories about the creation of this iconic 1982 game. How and why did it transform from Crazy Otto to Ms. Pac-Man? Using source code and graphics ROMs extracted from his 30-year-old 8″ floppy archives, Steve will show the evolution of game play and character design. Steve will also discuss GCC’s first product Super Missile Attack, including the SMA 2.0 version created during GCC’s lawsuit with Atari.

Steve worked for General Computer of Cambridge, MA. from 1981 through 1985. Steve performed the hardware design for GCC’s arcade enhancement kits Super Missile Attack and Ms. Pac-Man. Steve also worked on the Maria graphics chip for the Atari 7800 ProSystem home console, & was a contributor to various other arcade game projects at GCC such as Atari’s Charley Chuck’s Food Fight. Steve is a frequent contributor to ACAM’s education projects, and participates with ACAM at gaming events on a regular basis.

6pm: ACAM Presents Mike Stulir: The Inventions & Legacy of Ralph Baer

Mike Stulir, Vice President of The American Classic Arcade Museum (ACAM), takes a look at the legacy of Ralph Baer, creator of the first video game console & the man generally considered to be the “Father of Video Games.” Mike will present a general history of Ralph’s work, share some little known facts & photos, and analyze how his concepts gave birth to an industry that feeds billions of dollars into the U.S. & global economies. ACAM is proud to be home to two of Ralph’s creations; a replica of the “Brown Box” prototype that Ralph hand-built in early 2014 & and Ralph’s original “Video Toss” prototype unit from 1990 that showed how games could be more interactive.

Classic console gamers may know Mike from his work on the Atari Flashback & Atari Flashback 2 retro consoles, but Mike’s true passion is classic coin-op arcade games. Mike is the Vice President of the American Classic Arcade Museum (ACAM) in Weirs Beach, NH. Established in 1998, ACAM is the first 501c3 non-profit museum facility dedicated to the restoration, preservation & play of classic coin-op arcade games from the 1970’s and 1980’s. ACAM is a “hands on” facility and currently has just shy of 300 classic coin-op arcade games on display for the public to enjoy. Mike is an active participant in ACAM’s education program, which works directly with New England-area colleges & their students that are pursuing careers in the video game industry.

However, the vision for the card set soon expanded to include the history of the worldwide video game industry, documenting not only important milestones in video game history, but also honoring world record holders, iconic industry pioneers, noted video game personalities, contest winners, legendary events and the thousands of individuals and companies who, through their creative contributions, have given shape to today’s worldwide video game culture.

10pm: Steven Kleisath & Stephen Boyer, Mario Bros. Arcade

7:30pm: Game Designers Eugene Jarvis & George Petro

He co-founded Vid Kidz in the early 1980s and currently leads the arcade development studio, Raw Thrills Inc.

George Petro got bit by the game bug in high school, working at the local arcade in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. His passion for games drove him toward game design; and while still in college, Petro moonlighted as a pinball programmer at Williams. George then led the revival of video game development at Williams-Bally-Midway in the late 1980’s and early ’90s. While at Midway, Petro developed many successful titles including Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Revolution X with Aerosmith, and NARC. Petro then left Midway to found Play Mechanix, Inc. in 1995, where George’s team produced the mega-hits Big Buck Hunter, Deal or No Deal, and Terminator Salvation.

In 2006, Raw Thrills merged with the renowned game development studio Play Mechanix. to create a new world leader in arcade video and video redemption games. The combined strength of the two studios have produced an amazing lineup of games for 2015 including Batman™, SnoCross™, Super Cars™, SuperBikes 2™, Barrel of Monkeys™, Kung Fu Panda™, Aliens Armageddon™, and the incredible new Big Buck HD Wild™ and Jurassic Park Arcade™.

Hey Doug. Speaking of Pinburgh banks, how many banks of four games will be set-up? I figured 700 players/4 players = 175 groups. 175/3 groups per bank = 58.33 banks, so a minimum of 59 banks. So how many banks do you think the tourney will have set up?

    #44 4 years ago

Is the 3 groups per bank thing confirmed?

    #45 4 years ago

There will be 60 Pinburgh banks with 3 groups per bank.

In addition we will have 12 backup banks

    #46 4 years ago

I know I already said I'm excited, but - I'm really excited! Coming all the way from San Diego for this!!

    #47 4 years ago

Coming from the UK. Can't wait.

Just hope I'm not the only Pinburgh player from the UK?! There are soo many good UK players.. but I'm just not one of them sadly.

Thanks Doug! I think it is so cool that you know going in what the banks will consist of, but you will only play 10 of them and you never know what they will be until it's time to play them! You look at the banks and think "There's a dream bank for me" but then you never get to play it. Then you get a bank where you are very familiar with one of the games, but don't really know the other three. So you then proceed to stink it up on the one that you know, and just crush it on the other three! All the while meeting new players and also getting to play against players that everyone knows well. So cool! It lasts for 3 days and it's over in the blink of an eye.

If you get bored, you can compare the IFPA UK rankings to the pinburgh sign up page, and see all the brits! I did the top 7 for you, then got bored myself. David Mainwaring was the first name that was on both lists, so he will be the "highest ranked" player from your country.
