I am looking to purchase a baby octopus. My first one. Any other pinsiders have one in captivity?
How large should the tank be?

    #4 2 years ago

Not really gross..I have alot experience with fish...I do want one but give it the proper environment and stimulus

    #8 2 years ago
    Quoted from Frax:

    You mean.....in the ocean?

    In captivity only

Was thinking 1 octopus at a time with neon tetras as fun Bait.

    #11 2 years ago
    Quoted from Frax:

Oh, sorry, my bad. You said the proper environment.

    Yes. Correct.

You should research the animal first..this isn't a spur-of-the-moment decision

    #14 2 years ago

Depends on the species..they are all extremely intelligent beings.

I appreciate that ..why created the thread.
    No owners so far though..

    #25 2 years ago
    Quoted from Blackbeard:

Octopus aren’t fish. They’re actually extremely intelligent animals.
    Honestly I find it cruel.

Depends entirely on the environment. They do not travel far from their homes.

    #27 2 years ago
    Quoted from Blackbeard:

Watch “My Octopus Teacher”. Really fascinating documentary. Maybe you’ll change your mind about taking some poor creatures freedom.

Not convinced....hamster tubes leading to various themes tanks wouldn't suffice?
    In before my own lock.

I have decided Not to get an Octopus. I agree, such an intelligent animal should be left in the Ocean. Thx for the advice folks.

    #65 2 years ago
    Quoted from transprtr4u:

very unique species .... good call !
lots of creatures should be left alone to thrive in there environment !

I have seen the movie..it was excellent..but why not rescue one that's distressed in a pet shop? I would take care of it better.

    #66 2 years ago

I absolutely love all animals and wished I would of studied to be a veterinarian

    #69 2 years ago

It's my love of animals that's wants me to take care of them

    #70 2 years ago
    Quoted from Blackbeard:

Why? Thing is wild and doesn’t wanna be in your tank.

It does compared to a pet store cage

    #72 2 years ago
Quoted from Blackbeard:It’s not a domesticated animal.
Dog or cat? Sure. Wild animal? Cmon bro.

Not true ..i raise distressed animals whenever I can
I had a blue jay bird i rescued follow me everywhere
All species of animals are intelligent

    #74 2 years ago

I tried to rescue a baby racoon stuck high in a tree freezing to death in a snow storm
I remember looking into its eyes and saying it's ok I'll get you.. when I finally got the extended ladder set up..poor little guy had passed and froze to death.

    #75 2 years ago
    Quoted from Palmer:

Because the moment you purchase it, the pet store will buy another one.

I thought about that..but most purchases would not be made from a rescue point of view.

    #77 2 years ago
    Quoted from Zartan:

It’s rare that they come up for sale in the pet industry. Most smart pet store owners will only really bring them in for a few clients.

    Call Kensington market in Toronto?

Designing a little wooden pinball machine with simple goals . I believe an octopus is intelligent enough to play pinball. Be a cool experiment!

    #92 2 years ago

Regardless I stand behind my decision not to get one.
