I just picked up a Hot Wheels the other day having never played it before. For some reason this game has never gone on location in my area and with COVID there was never a chance to play it at a show. Still, after doing a little research I decided to give it a shot and glad I did. This is a highly under appreciated game. Loads of fun for all skill levels and being the first AP game I've purchased I am more than happy with the quality of workmanship. With todays crazy pricing, this is definitely the best deal in pinball right now.

Quoted from locustgrovepin:

I’m seeing that too.

I'm getting a warning message the the page is unsafe. Maybe they got hacked.

#3249 2 years ago

This is the message I get if you go directly to the Store.

My game suddenly started doing this tonight. The number 4 stays on green when the rest of the numbers are out and doesn't light red or blue.

I recently bought the topper lighting kit for my Hot Wheels. I plugged the connector into the end of the daisy-chain as described online but it would not light. It appears the end connector is bad on the last back light. If I removed a connector from a different section of backlight and plug the topper light in there it works. Any suggestions on how to remedy this problem?

#3309 2 years ago
Quoted from pinball2020:

Any chance that the connector is reversed and you just need to connect it "upside down"? I had to do that on my Hot Wheels. Or if you got it working elsewhere on the board, stick with that?

I'd have to unplug a strip of backglass lights to make it work that way.

Quoted from brenna98:

I have a make a revision to my video to show more detail on this.
If you look at your LED strip in the backbox, one end header pins has +left, -right
The other end has +right, -left
Look at the screen printing on the LED pcb in the backbox for the +/- markings.
Plug your topper light in so yellow is + and black is -

Yes, apparently the plug on the topper strip was installed backwards. I had to break the tab on the strip in the backbox to make it fit, but it's working now. Thanks

Occasionally, I'll have a game that goes Red Line Mania crazy. For instance, last night I think I hit Red Line Mania about 15 times in one game (played them all horribly and ended up with 1.5B.)
But two of the Red Line Mania's came on the launch of the ball after a Red Line Mania. Has that happened to anyone else? Is that supposed to happen?

Quoted from RYE_:

I had this same issue with the leaf switches in two of the car bumpers. I got a leaf adjuster tool similar to this and fixed it in 60 seconds.
Also: cracked 6 billion today on my machine! New personal best. Got into 4th gear pretty early, that helped. Got 2.5B on one ball.

Yes, it was the switch on the R. Thanks

Has anyone on here made custom topper for Hot Wheels? I tossing around ideas to make one myself.

I've been working on some parts for a Hot Wheels topper. It's coming along nicely so far.

I would like to add a shaker and side rails to mine. The side rails are in stock at the moment but the shaker isn't. Is there any difference in the shaker motors? I have a new shaker for a Stern Spike in stock that I'm not using. If it would work that would be awesome!

The AP shaker literally rocks my machine. I had to tone it down a lot to keep the glass from rattling but I love it. They did a great job of coding it in with gameplay.

Is there a fix for the way the flippers sometimes feel spongy?

#3583 2 years ago
Quoted from JagDaniels:

I don't know what you mean. Maybe houdini flippers feel a bit weak in multiball situations.
To be honest on Hot Wheels i reduced the Flipperpower a bit and feel much better now.

This is the only American pinball I own, but the flippers just don't seem to have the 'snap' of the Stern, CGC, Gottlieb or Williams games I own. I saw a while back someone listed 'flipper upgrade' on their Hot Wheels when listing it for sale. I was just wondering what can be done to get the flippers where they don't seem to have give in them when making contact with the ball.

Quoted from jumpyg1258:

Looking at your posts I'm glad I didn't bother to get the Pin Stadiums. I had some extra led light strips around my house that I used to test whether or not I wanted to get Pin Stadiums for my Hot Wheels and I did not notice much of a difference with them lighting up the playfield so I passed on buying the PS's. Hearing that there's no instructions makes me really glad I made that decision.

I installed Pinstadiums in my NASCAR a few years back. It seems that the install instructions may have been online. I don't recall, but the ones I got were pretty detailed telling exactly where to plug things in and where the clip onto lights under the playfield.

HotWheels at #78 this week? What a joke! This is one our favorites in my group. And these are casual and serious players alike! And Co-op is awesome!

Hot Wheels is vastly under rated because so few people have actually played it. It came out at a bad time at the beginning of Covid so it never was at shows and few people put it on location. Since then I have never seen it at a show, or a bar or an arcade. In fact, the only way I got to play it was do a blind buy on recommendations I saw on line.

#3644 1 year ago

I'm wondering if anyone can explain this. I've been trying to set the replays at a score where the kids can get one now and then. The problem is, whether I turn the replay percentage on or off, the replay scores are going with percentage rather than the scores I've set.

#3646 1 year ago
Quoted from Ferret:

Photopin - I can't repro that here. If you'd like, please capture your logs and game configuration files and send them to me at ferret <at> americanpinball.com, and I'll be glad to take a peek and maybe get an idea of why you're having that issue.

Sorry Ferret, I'm not so tech savoy, you're going to have to explain how to capture the logs and game configurations files.

Thanks I will order that along with the bumper tire covers! Do you enjoy the machine? I’m ordering it without ever playing it. Looks fun on videos and price range is good.

Same here as well. There was no place to play the game and test it out so I just watched some videos and thought 'If Greg Bone likes it, that's good enough for me.'

I do not regret make the purchase.

Went to Recbar 812 in Indiana this evening. The first time I've seen Hot Wheels in the wild. As I suspected, it was getting more attention than the other games in it's room
Full disclosure, Mando, Stranger Things, Godzilla, Batman 66, Avengers...were upstairs
But there were about 70 other games downstairs with Hot Wheels.

Hey Hot Wheels owners, if anyone's looking to make a homemade topper, I saw these at Hobby Lobby yesterday and thought of you all. It was $56 IIRC but was on 50% off sale with other wall hangings.[quoted image]

Yes, it makes a pretty good background for a topper.

Awesome! Do you do commission work?

I would but it would probably be on a production schedule worse than Stern's.
