Anyone in or near Michigan thinking about or wanting to sell their Hot Wheels? My sons and I just missed an opportunity for a used HUO and have started the search. Thank you!

#3689 1 year ago

Anyone know of a Hot Wheels on route in Michigan or somewhere I’d be able to try it out?

#3691 1 year ago

Well that’s fun! Thank you. My newb is showing... Consider me enlightened.

#3696 1 year ago

Can anyone confirm the correct position of this drop target at rest? I’m looking to buy the machine shown below but think the lip is unusual. Thank you! rosh Ferret

Quoted from LTG:

Sticking up a little.
Below the playfield is a screw ( might have a nut to loosen first and then tighten ) that you can raise or lower it to be level with the playfield. At the bottom of the assembly.
LTG : )

That was fast! Thanks LTG. Is this a big concern or should it be easily resolved per your instructions?

#3701 1 year ago

Thanks RandomRetro & LTG This form is awesome. LTG you are a fantastic wealth of knowledge and an asset to us all.

Brought a HW home yesterday. My kids and I are excited! Hot Wheels sidewalk chalk “Challenge Accepted”!

Quoted from Roostking:

Bad ass, but I gotta know what that pinhauler is!! The interior looks off the charts.

Ha. That’s my ManVan. It’s a Chrysler Pacifica with the Pinnacle trim. Easy in, easy out. Working on ways to fit two at a time back there. Requires removing over travel rubber stops from the sliding door track and making the entryway wide enough to accommodate one across while the other slides straight in the tailgate. But I couldn’t be happier with the ride! Oh, and it came with leather stitched throw pillows for the back seats... lol. They’re in the storage room.

#3714 1 year ago
Quoted from Roostking:

Lol you should have told me it was some sort of lamborghini or something, I would have believed it!

A little swanky for goldfish cracker crumbs and juicebox spills but it was the only model with the “ultra console” armrest vs. the cheap POS fold down slivers they expect you to enjoy. Maybe I should have said it’s a Maybach since that’s another car that comes with pillows.

Quoted from RandomRetro:

Red or yellow flipper rubbers? Discuss…
[quoted image]

I’d go with yellow. Mine came used with orange that I’m ok with. I love the OG black though. Looks like a checkered flag. Appropriate finish line for the drain.

#3744 1 year ago
Quoted from RandomRetro:

I like that plan. I am leaning towards yellow so reds up first.

Let’s see pictures of both!

#3749 1 year ago
Quoted from RandomRetro:

Both look pretty sick if you ask me!
[quoted image][quoted image]

I like the yellow. Looks fun, keeps the levity of the game, toy, cartoon. The red looks a little too serious and blends in. Hard to say. Everyone has their preference. Let us know which you decide to keep on.

Got a new GC tonight! Lots of amazing moments progressing through the 12 places of the race, battling creatures, lighting epics, and activating all of the multiballs. It was my first time collecting 3 of the 5 hero cars (Rip Rod, Sharkruiser, Twin Mill). Car chaos is wild btw and the light shows throughout the modes are spectacular! What a ride?!

Quoted from Ferret:

I do suspect your hunch is correct and it's a mis-gapped target. I'd suggest simply starting a game, shouldn't even need to plunge the ball, just hit the flipper a bunch, and observe which car target insert(s) light up -- that will be your culprit.
Or, as pinball2020 says, you can send a game log to ferret <at> americanpinball.com and I'll be glad to take a look.

Really appreciate your presence in the thread!

Quoted from RYE_:

That golden moment when everything aligns...
Honestly I was playing a really lazy game up to this moment. Was on my last ball, only 500M points on the board, and only had the multiplier in second gear.
Then I simultaneously triggered Loop Crash Multiball, Victory Lap Multiball, a T-Rex Creature Battle, and literally on my first shot hit Turbo Boost. Was just smashing orbits and loops like a mad man.
[quoted image]

Dayum! Nice one. How fun?! The machine really lights up when all that starts happening.

Quoted from rosh:

those failed messages are likely meaningless and a result of Linux unable to do something due to the read only nature of the system.
FYI, providing 12v direct to the computer, does not eliminate a power issue causing reboots, as drops in voltage to the proc will also cause restarts of the game. Has anyone looked at the logs?

#3887 1 year ago
Quoted from Ferret:

Absolutely, you can stack those multiballs, and it's quite valuable and fun to do so! The trick is that you have to start them both at the same time, you can't start one and then bring the other in later.

Does this happen by finishing a race while loop crash is active or does crossing the finish line on the last required loop start both simultaneously?

#3889 1 year ago
Quoted from rosh:

loop crash and victory laps will always start together if you are shoot the race clean through, e.g make the 12 shots in order (or don't hit a loop lit shot, when it is not lit for a race position).
The loops are earned on the inner shots, not the orbits, but the left orbit is where you start both. So, once you have victory laps/checkered Flag lit, you want to shoot loops to get loop crash lit, then shoot the left orbit to start both. The icons on screen show many shots are needed.

Thanks! I’ve had both running together once but didn’t know how I achieved it. I’ve shot independently for loop crash but the time I finished a race and got loop crash going simultaneously was by pure coincidence! Now I know, TY!

#3892 1 year ago

Awesome Ferret & rosh - Thanks for the advice and for making a great game! What’s the best thing to shoot for once both multiballs are running? Do ramps, loops, or the track builder VUK score higher jackpots than the others (all things equal, no epic features)?

PS > Will I have a chance to meet either of you at MGC?

#3894 1 year ago
Quoted from Ferret:

who knows what scoring insanity you can achieve.

Perfect. I’m going to give this a try. HW is a really fun game. You guys nailed it! Wishing you all the best.

#3903 1 year ago
Quoted from rosh:

sounds like an issue with a switch bank. First thing I would try, is to go into service mode -switch testing and test those switches and see if there is a bank not working (column in table) or if there are stuck switches. It a bank is out, check the appropriate board to make sure the connector is firm. If only part of a bank is out, could be a break in the common wire between those switches.

Rosh is like LTG 2.0!

The plastics are just so smooth... that, plus their color really lends to the “track” look and feel.

Now that VUK however... that should really be a loop.

I am open to trying anything if theres interest. You can see all the wireforms I have made on pinside or loganpinball.com.
Thanks for any thoughts.

I love the lighting effect you added to your Tron wireforms. That same orange and blue would look sweet under the existing plastics or with your wireforms. What light product did you use for that? Thanks!

While waiting for AP to fix the green screens I thought I'd post the very red tachometer that you only see by getting Hot Wheels into 5th gear.

Trying to buy a Hot Wheels, was routed. Problematic things I need to look for when purchasing this game? Input much appreciated.

Very solid build. Nothing stands out as a common problem. Being routed I’d check the car, RPM, and other standup targets to see if the stickers are worn and needing to be replaced.

#4053 8 months ago

My green flashes are typically during a cutscene insert. Not sure after the last update if they’re as frequent. Seemed to be in between the super skillshot animation or more so when the extra ball montage plays. Almost as if the graphics were missing or not transitioning properly. Sometimes with the news desk lady and the creature battles overlapping.

This mod will be done and for sale soon. (Loganpinball.com) it is 90% done. I need to add another brace and paint it, but turn you vuk into a 2 loop return on hot wheels. Stainless steel ramp. I might alter the end run to return, not sure yet. It is a great game, but no loops!

Yes! Looks goooood.

Quoted from Pinballbuyer:

I am bringing games to Pintastic. But, I am having issues with this hot wheels that as of now has me leaving this out of the event. At times the flippers will flutter and all the coils get extremely weak. So weak it cant even load a ball in shooter lane. When the ball drains the machine will also reset. So far I am not finding the problem. My gut tells me its the interlock switch or coin door open switch triggering this. Anyone have a issue simuliar to that symptom? It happens daily… I tried playing with the coin door open and interlock pulled out and it still occurs.

Power supply?

#4090 7 months ago
Quoted from Pinballbuyer:

Thanks! This is version #2.
And the coin door interlock switch solved the games issue.
I am on the fence on going to pintastic. If I do hot wheels is good. I did not get a vender spot for it and I had a player at allentown pinfest tell me to go “f” myself when I asked him not slap save my brand new game as he was wearing a ring. So, really not sure I want that experience again. I would like the visability of the show for us, but I have to get there mentally..
Quick video of redesigned loop. There are blocking rings preventing ball traps and its slanted to feed back to vuk. Still testing it out today.
[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]

If you could make this out of translucent plastic like the other ramps. Ho lee fuk. Darn thing is from the players perspective we can’t see the ball loop. Who is the guy reproducing all the bally/williams ramps? He has the tooling to do it! Work together and I’ll make sure every HW owner buys one.

Quoted from Wheyfast:

Ok so I received the board for the LED's today. I am waiting to put it in, but the Board number they sent is PCB 40. Clearly, the board with the blown fuse is board 53. On the left of board, 53 is where the flashers are connected. Does anyone know the differences between these 2 boards? I am still suspecting board 53. I do not like American Pinball's Secrecy around the electronics. They will not make it long with owners not able to maintain their own games. Putting this machine on a route could turn into a nightmare without being able to troubleshoot.

So I have a dead magnet. It's not working during testing or gameplay. I've found only four fuses, and they all check fine. The connection to the magnet is fine. It worked a few days ago. Any suggestions? And where are the rest of the fuses?

If only there was a service manual..........................

#4118 7 months ago
Quoted from arcyallen:

I've looked at that manual. Several times. Even before I bought it. It's been open, in my browser, for two days. When you search "fuses", it shows exactly zero locations. There's also a tech sheet that is quite informative, but still with zero fuse locations.
A more helpful response you could have given was "There’s a thermal fuse underneath the tape of the magnet" (thanks Audioenslaved). That is actually useful.

Dude. That wasn’t a dig on you. I was pointing out how American hasn’t provided ample technical instructions or wiring diagrams. I was referring to the ongoing frustration AP owners have over the lack of end user resources. Only a few posts ago I was providing links and contact information to someone so they could get the answers they needed. Meanwhile you being captain obvious to someone, scolded them for connecting alligator clips while their power was on. I’m sure they didn’t appreciate your patronizing tone as you began with “I don't have an answer for you (sorry) but here's the lesson...” Just as I don’t appreciate your passive aggressive downvote since you misunderstood my comment not being directed at you. Deep breath. I hope you get a resolution for your game. I know that downtime is frustrating.

I'm having a lot of rejects out of the Build Track saucer. I'll shoot the ball all the way in and it bounces back out.

Check the drop targets in front of the saucers. If those are not flush with the playfield you could be getting some ball hop that causes it to bounce out.

So while adjusting the flippers on my Hot Wheels, I noticed the installed return springs are larger and stiffer than the replacements that come with the flipper kit pictured. Quoted from Weazel:

Yep ... 31deg inside where the machine is and the computer is way way too hot and I've cooked my nice new high performance memory module. Reboots occasionally but the green screens are minimal and still quick to disappear. I measured 44 deg above the computer with a remote sensor with the computer case being at least 50 deg I estimate. Hotter inside the case I'm guessing.
Definitely a case of "Standby, while engine cools".
I've spent the last few days figuring out how to get some cooling happening inside the back box. The temperature across the front glass is a good indicator of whats going on inside the back box, temperature wise. The screen generates a fair amount of heat as well.
I tried a 40mm fan above the the computer at half speed and full speed and found half speed better as at full speed it was just pulling in hot air from the the adjacent vents.
Change of tack and I decided to place the fan at the bottom of the back box where there is a hole on the right side, 50mm x 42mm to the lower cabinet. The same sized hole is under the screen that has 2 half inch flexible conduit, containing cables. I sealed this off with a piece of plastic sheet to prevent pressurized air in the back box, leaking back in to lower cabinet.
Copious amounts of warm air are now exiting the 3 top vents in the backbox with the fan drawing cooler air from the vents at floor level underneath the lower cabinet. The computer is now cooler within acceptable limits and I can no longer cook an egg on the top of it! The front glass is now cool all over.
I'll eventually replace the 40mm fan with a 50mm ball bearing fan for longevity, post some pics and put in a new memory module. The weather is cooling quickly now and 5 months of 31 deg temps will fall to 20 deg in the next few months. The plan is to watch what happens from now on and see if the situation stabilizes now that extra cooling has been provided.

Would be interested in seeing pictures of your cooling system when you’re finished.

Just wanted to share my positive experience with AP support.
I submitted a ticket for the opto issue above and to get some advice on a slightly noisy 48V power supply.
Maurice from AP support contacted me within a few business hours of my ticket submission. He sent me instructions for right ramp enter opto replacement. I had already ordered a new opto via the AP parts store and he actually refunded it! Regarding the 48V he gave me a few tips for how to diagnose the issue and if its not fixable to follow up so they can acquire and ship me a new one.
This is my first AP pin and I am beyond impressed with this level of service and have to say it gives me a strong overall impression of the company and their commitment to customers.
Now...need to find a local LOV

That’s nice to hear.

Quoted from DaddyManD:

i am new to the thread and green screen issue. But is it possible its just code related? I have noticed a green screen here and there during mode transitions and my machine is not running hot or in a warm environment. Also I noticed in the Extra Ball animation there is a Picture in Picture segment and the small picture within the main screen turns green for a sec, which is a clue that this is code. For me the quick flashes of green here and there haven’t been an issue (sorry for those who have something worse or are bothered by it). I am working on a homebrew and I get black screens sometimes between modes where the software is just processing, at least for me it just feels like this behavior.

I have the extra ball PiP missing animation green screen as well. Would be nice if Ferret could squash that bug.
