Quoted from rosh:

Yup, easy fix, the crazy thing is how just a tiny gap like that can trap the ball

lol because you must read in my mind !!! it was not 2 mm, i was thinking how a ball rolling can stop perfectly right there !?

Quoted from rosh:

It is very approachable for novices, has tremendous breadth for an enthusiast in a home environment to have so many things they can focus on, and is challenging for a tournament player as we worked very hard to ensure balanced scoring with no exploits (well there was one, that we fixed before release) requiring skill and strategy to get big scores.

a friend, lambda player, did came tonight
he never seen/played this pin before, i first explain him just few basis, than a few more, and so on
after 2 hours, he finally score 1B, got 3 cars out of 5, and i see how he was happy/fier & enjoying the situation... what could we ask more than just having fun ?

#4002 4 months ago
Quoted from rosh:

The fix for those stuck balls is probably documented with a video somewhere in this thread. You can loosen the rail from underneath the playfield and then get the end of the rails snug to the post and tighten. Or from top side use a the shaft of the tool using the back rail as a leverage point to bend it slightly to the post so that small gap does not cause it to stick.
Curious to see what your fastest race time will be. World record is under a minute.

My fastest time atm is 1:16! Time to get under a minute!!

#4003 4 months ago

I'm not even in the ballpark.

#4004 4 months ago

well, was playing to advance in the game, not to raise the RPM, and than just beat it
(factory settings, sensitive tilt & slope at 50% at the back)

hw1 (resized).jpghw1 (resized).jpg

hw2 (resized).jpghw2 (resized).jpg

Draven was hard to catch, with that "E" letter, i had to restart him 3X

My flippers feel a bit spongey is there a way to improve them?

#4006 4 months ago
Quoted from Audioenslaved:

My flippers feel a bit spongey is there a way to improve them?

Check all flipper mechanical components. Pull out the plunger in the flipper coil. Look for any wear on the plunger and clean the plunger and coil interior to remove the black dust. Isopropyl alcohol is a good cleaning fluid.
Black dust and wear cause friction and power loss to the flippers. Coil alignment may be required if wear is occurring.

It's also possible to change the power to the coils by settings.
You can change just about everything on this machine.
We're on the Extra Easy preset with all settings on factory default.
We haven't had to change any settings.

#4007 4 months ago

ok, almost 1 week home, must say that this pin is fun, fun, and fun !

after beating it, i'm now going for points/RPM, and this b*tch is suddenly more harder lol
i've got only 1 time to 5th gear, but than quite didnt shoot for something else, this is where i need to still understand where is the perfect balance (for what i read here, going in 3rd than start playing around seems nice)
higher points are still (from 2.6 to) 4.8 B, and race time is far from the best with 1'59

btw, did i say this pin is fun !?

#4008 4 months ago

For me, keeping in 3rd gear is the best balance for points... the Tach still down-revs slowly enough that it's not too hard to maintain the level in the 6-7 range, so Tach value around 2M. Once I'm in 4th, it feels like the Tach is down at idle most of the time. And yes, getting to 5th gear at all is hard, never mind getting Red Line Mania in 5th gear, which I don't think I've ever done legitimately. (Sadly, nothing special happens if you manage to do that... yet.)

Glad you're having so much fun with it!

ha zut, i was hoping a surprise there... but than, the word "yet" is important

will tend to play my next games as it, and see where i can go
yes, so much time i had this pin on my wishlist, i'm absolutly not disapointed

ok, time for more news

the upper-rails "blocked balls" was tweaked, its not 100%, but now if a ball stop there, the space so thin than even with my sensitive tilt, i can nudge & move it

today wanted to tweak the other problem of HW : rejected shoots from the "tracks hole"
on mine, the 1st owner did put some foam there, but still (may be my fault for having a harder slope/set the legs at 50% at back !?) i was getting something like 1 out of 2 or 3 shoot rejected... :/
i saw here some DIY tricks, here's another : did use a rubber sleeve (cut in 2 to fill it on the metal gate), and it did works 100% in something like 3 houres of intensive play today, absoluty NO reject at all
not sure if this will works on your machine, but its easy, cheap, & quick to do/test

IMG_20230608_211455_200 (resized).jpgIMG_20230608_211455_200 (resized).jpg

while HW is the only "player" pin home, i'm still more than very positive about it
i usually like adrenaline pins, and if i have to compare with Houdini & Oktober Fest, HW is even better to me, its a real shooter, fast, with a fan layout & simplier in code/rules/things to do (but this is not negative at all)

well done AP !

and finally blowing points, tanx to the turbo boost !
that T-REX left looping-ramp shoot is so addictive when you can rack it forever

and about my trick for the tracks scoop, its 2 houres more playing without any reject, seems nice than

#4014 3 months ago

For those that bought their Hot Wheels NiB, where were the brackets kept for the topper plastic (if any were intended to come with it)? I'm worried I accidentally threw them out with the rest of the box.

At the end of the day it isn't a big deal, I can easily make some myself, but was just curious as I am finally finding some time between real life and actually playing HW to get all the cars swapped out and extra odds and ends added in. There is some hardware taped to the back of the topper plastic, but there aren't any brackets in the bag.

#4015 3 months ago

5 days since my "track scoop tweak", and i finally get my 1st reject
soon or later it had to happend, this is pinball !
but ok, if the average % remain as it, i can easily deal with it (lol)

Sounds like I will have to add this to my work order when I crack open the tool box and slide out the glass this weekend

Also, would anyone be able to clarify what came extra in the "Deluxe" version of Hot Wheels? I paid for (and according to the box) received a "Classic" trim level but it came with everything I had been quoted as coming with the "Deluxe." The extras in question being Magic Glass, shaker motor, real knocker, upgraded side rails (lollipop style), and the topper plastic. I can't imagine anything extra that could be added beyond all that extra bling! This is absolutely not a complaint, I am quite happy to have all those extras, just curious what I might be missing, if anything.

and while waiting for an answer too, another one : is the DELUXE the same as the 500 first HW out of the line, sold at "standard" price, but than with few extra on them ?

mine is number 3165 (than its from this 500 run), i have shaker, knocker, topper (from factory on all !?), inside innerblades (from factory on all !?), the invisiglass was NOT in the pack (but than added/paid by the 1st owner), and no lollipop siderails

#4018 3 months ago

Deluxe often means Magic Glass, knocker, shaker and in the case of HW, the upgraded rails, which were standard on the games previous to HW, but not available at all during the first run.

The first 500 HW included the shaker

Inside art was considered standard after Houdini, and was on the first release of HW, but not sure if that has changed.

The single plastic topper, unlit, was originally included with all HWs, not sure if that has changed.

#4019 3 months ago

ok tanx Josh

i than have a SUPER "first 500", but not a "DELUXE" !

lol

While I agree HW is badass, AIQ kinda put the vertical loop argument to rest. Cant remember what the actual wording was from HW though.

I know, how stupid! Hotwheels will be the last game I ever sell off! The co-op mode makes it the favorite pin in my group of players! They all agree it's severely under rated!
After two back to back 4 player co-op games ganging up against the machine, it needs a break for the flippers to cool down or they become weak. I was thinking of putting a fan under there blowing up towards the flippers.

So that is the white foam above the saucer? Hard to tell?

#4026 3 months ago

Did AP ever follow up on David Fix mentioning possible gameplay addons for titles like Hot Wheels? I could have swore he talked before about official mods and addons.

I was just thinking it would have been really slick if the game had a camera and took a picture of the player for a "driver's license" when they start the game. Something like that would be a silly fun addon for location games

no, as said the foam was there from previous owner, but it was still problematic
than its the orange rubber sleeve cutted in 2, and placed on the gate
i'm now at 2 reject since in place...

This is probably the "Jump ramp" story... He said this in a podcast many many month ago (when i remember correctly...)

Jump ramp as an update for hot wheels...
But yeah... Time will tell...

I love AP games but what CEOs of companies are talking is mostly like the weather forecast.

Never bet on it...

My HotWheels won’t remember the boot device anymore. I’m pretty confident the battery on the motherboard is dead. Does anyone know what battery that is so that i don’t have to make two trips to the bar for support?

If it's like Houdini it's a 2032.

A couple of different computers have been used, so you will need to look inside. Some have the battery connected with a cable (see below) and some the battery is in a holder on the mother board (hopefully yours is the latter). You may also need to get info from AP to be able to set all of the boot settings correctly in addition to setting the boot device. If it is the on board type, it is likely the 2032 as LTG posted.

I did for those both.

My game simply was not remembering the boot drive. Unfortunately it was a soldered battery . In order to complete the field repair, I had to pull the tabs off the battery and then use electrical tape to put them onto a new one. I couldn’t get solder to stick to the new battery so I just gave up and used the tape.

If anyone knows the part number of the battery I would love to order a couple of correct ones.

Computer Battery Replacement

Having given this some thought as to the various ways this can be implemented, this is my conclusion on the simplest way with no future hassles with replacing the battery.

Buy a 2032 Li button battery holder from your local electronics store.
Cut red and black wires off, close to the battery. (Don't mess around with removing soldered wires on the motherboard. This is fraught with danger for the inexperienced. Bare feet on the floor as a static precaution.)
Remove a small amount of insulation from the 2 wire ends and tin with solder. (Be careful not to drop any solder on the motherboard. Use a paper tissue under the wires as a precaution.)
Tin connectors on the battery holder.
Solder black wire to the center contact and red wire to outer edge body contact.
Flatten joints and apply quick setting epoxy or UV glue to cover exposed soldered contacts.
Apply some thick doubled sided foam tape to the battery holder base and stick on motherboard where the old sticker was.

Hello easy battery replacement!

Just a short question, my VUK starts to fail getting the half loop done. The mechanics feels not really frictionless...
Do you guys think 11 or 12 is still fine for the settings of the VUK ?
Then it works quite good. Are the machanics of B/W fit the coil ?

Great idea for the Battery Weazel !

I'd have to check the power on mine, but power wasn't the reason the ball wasn't travelling properly. When my Hot Wheels arrived from the factory the VUK just wasn't nicely lined up with the left orbit. It took a few simple trial and error adjustments of the screw and positioning, but once I got it "dialed in" it's worked flawlessly ever since and hasn't needed any adjusting in well over a year.

if i can reply as a simple HW owner, from reading here & there, another code update will came, including a correction for these green screens

While waiting for AP to fix the green screens I thought I'd post the very red tachometer that you only see by getting Hot Wheels into 5th gear.

Finished this game with 6.3 billion. One shot away from triggering the Draven final battle and... bricked a ricochet straight to the left out lane.

I <3 pinball.

Very solid build. Nothing stands out as a common problem. Being routed I’d check the car, RPM, and other standup targets to see if the stickers are worn and needing to be replaced.
