The "Release Notes" download, a PDF document, has info on how to install the code and what to do to turn on Co-op mode. The process is very easy.

#3254 2 years ago

Code update is awesome!!!!!
Thanks American!! Such a fantastic pin and now even better!

Co-Op/Team Play

OK, I did it and I'll explain it here.

After turning on "Team Play Allowed" in Settings > Standard menu,
Hold right flipper button and hit Start. Choose number of players and then it will ask Play1 to choose a team (Team Chase or Team Elliot).
Then play the ball. When next players turn comes, it will ask them to join a team and so on. You can have all 4 players on the same team against the machine, or 2 against 2 or even 3 against 1. Crazy fun!!

And after you enable “Team Play Allowed” you can just hold down the right flipper and it’ll popup a screen that tells you how to get a coop or team game going

Found a minor bug with the beta code i think. At one point on a ball 2 or 3 i finished a mode - might have been a battle or track builder multiball - and all the battle mode lights just went dark and stopped turning on. Game was otherwise running fine, i was clearly connecting with the BATTLE targets, but the hits weren't registering or lighting up. This lasted for maybe a minute as i continued with my game before something clearly triggered the software to correct itself and the BATTLE targets resumed operating normally. i was in too much of a groove to stop for a log dump but will do if it happens again.

#3257 2 years ago

We encountered the same bug as well but it cleared itself pretty quickly now that RYE_ mentions it. A lot happens in such a short time.

#3258 2 years ago

If you’re running the beta code and encounter any oddities, please capture logs and send them to:

[email protected]
[email protected]

Please note the date and time at which the problem occurred (make sure your clock is set correctly!) and tell us as much as you can about the situation.

Thank you very much! Glad y’all are enjoying the update.

I confuse Weazel with Ferret??

#3260 2 years ago

I asked what's the difference between a weazel and a ferret...see reply

Quoted from Weazel:

A Ferret is smarter and a highly unsung hero of the HW coding department. He works diligently to apply polish to the code. That is, analyse code problems, devise fixes or workarounds and incorporate all fixes , new enhancements in to a new release of code after compiling and creating an executable code that we install on our machines. So a big shoutout to Joe Schober of API. He does an amazing job and has extensive experience in the pinball and coding industry.

A Weasel provides Ferret with code problems we find and keeps the HW machines hardware always running, in the far away land of Aus. He tries to be helpful on the forum with his extensive experience as an electrical engineer and former IT educator, specialist in HW and SW.

For Dave or anybody from American Pinball - what size is the screw that is in the top of the spinner for the car that is towards the top center of the playing field? I added another Hot Wheels toy (an airplane) and now it looks like the hole is a bit big for holding up or tight fpr two arms. I has lasted well for several months and am wondering if the hole in the center is just wearing from the spinning. I put a washer on and I need to tighten it other than finger tight. What screw driver/hex driver should I use please? Thanks!

It's a worthwhile investment to get a hex key set for around the house. Ones like this fit 17 different sizes of screw in one tool for like $11.

Quoted from RYE_:

It's a worthwhile investment to get a hex key set for around the house. Ones like this fit 17 different sizes of screw in one tool for like $11.

It is and that is why I have like 3 sets (that is like 3 SAE and 3 hex sets). Unfortunately, none of the 3 mm hex keys in my house worked (yikes) which is why I thought I was losing my mind since I used one of them before to add the other Hot Wheels toy and arm to the spinner. One of the spinner arms center holes is getting a little stretched and needed to add a washer on top to hold the two of them on.

Tonight I even bought two new sets and one had a 3.5 key (that didn't work). The other set - the 3 mm hex key worked from it. Go figure.

So, you all will be happy to know that Bone Shaker is back chasing a Hot Wheels plane chasing him right back.

Team AP - the new beta code is cool. Snapshot also included of my last game's car collection. Nice work .

So - I had some bugs but I didn't get a chance to save them off, my machine got weird - did not boot and I had to open it up, disconnect a USB plug, plug in a keyboard, turn it on, press DELETE, change the start up BOOT sequence and reset everything and closed up the machine. I haven't seen anything weird again but if I do I will let everyone know.

Ha that's awesome. Where did you get the second arm to mount the additional car? Yoinked one of the mounts from the orbits?

I added a few Jeeps to my machine (I'm an off-roader when not pinballing) and swapped out Bone Shaker for a classic silver Mercedes roadster

Thanks. Sounds like you are customizing your machine for what you like which is awesome.

American Pinball sells extras (Links below). Go nuts and put on 6 - 8 cars like a kiddie ride at an amusement park . Not sure how fast it will spin or how long it will work though with that many cars on it (just like the kiddie rides in real life ).

I have seen people with 3 cars spinning and that looks cool but it starts to get a bit distracting in a game.

brenna98 - Thank you for making your show-n-tell videos. Graduate of your latest topper light video now .

Some additional fashion tips for others wanting to throw on the topper light that you might want to consider after watching Dave's video:

1. Get a long tool - if you think it is long make it longer - took me three increasingly longer screwdrivers till my wife suggested a longer torque wrench that we used to pop the plastic cleanly. Upon re-reading that, that reads like a bad magazine (webzine ?) joke.
2. Patiently straighten the wire prior to putting in the topper hole, otherwise it is push and curl, push and curl.
3. Remember as Dave said - read the connections. My connections were slightly different than Dave had in the video. I made a decision to use another connector and it was wired backwards by American Pinball (BOOO) but I stretched the plastic part of the connector back and was able to attach the wire with no problems.
4. Acid test: Turned off all the lights in the garage. The topper in of itself and machine are lighting up the garage. I like the white light and am inspired to experiment with some mirrors maybe on top or side of the machine. If I experiment or go topless (remove the backglass for total white light blinding illumination) I will post my mad scientist lighting experiments.

Thanks for reading through this and everyone stay safe, happy and healthy.

I know American Pinball is reading this forum and we appreciate your participation. I found a bug in the latest beta code for Hot Wheels. When I played Co-Op mode with 3 or 2 people, the display shows player 1 as Driver 3 in red font in the left corner of the screen before player 1 launches the ball. I have not tested it out with a regular game, so I will make sure I report if that is an issue too.

I have a question about rules. When I qualify EPIC features, how do I know which progress I made for the Ramps, Pop Bumpers, Orbits, and Standup Targets? Is there something on the display? Is the ultimate goal to collect the jackpot without the EPIC fail? Just curious and need clarification on EPIC modes. Otherwise I understand most of the rules.

#3274 2 years ago

To your first comment: if I’m understanding correctly, this is how it’s always worked, as a way to advise you of how many players are participating in the game, since the scoreboard isn’t shown while the intro animation plays. So you press Start once, it just begins the intro sequence. If you press Start again, it says “Welcome, Driver 2” to acknowledge that a player was added… ditto for adding players 3 and 4.

Re: Epic features: yes, there are counters for each feature on screen, right side center. Also, the playfield lights for each active Epic feature will flash sky blue until you’ve made the required number of that feature, then turn solid sky blue. Yes, the goal is to complete all the ones you started and then collect the Epic Jackpot by shooting the flashing Epic Collect standup target. The more Epic features you start simultaneously, the more valuable they all are, but the harder they are to finish, since you must complete ALL the started features to light Epic Collect.

Hope this helps!

Quoted from pinball2020:

The topper in of itself and machine are lighting up the garage.

Keep in mind brightness of the topper is tied to the backglass brightness setting, and in the current beta code, available on the website for those who want to test it out, you can have different brightness in attract vs game play.

I had already ordered a Hot Wheels (Oct 31) before hearing your podcast about your first NIB game (Hot Wheels).
But now I can't wait to get it, hopefully within the next two weeks. You probably did sale a few after some others heard all you had to say. Great job.

#3277 2 years ago

I guess I'm a bit behind, can't wait to install the new code and try it out! Really impressed with the continued polish that HW is getting, thanks! I've been so impressed with my HW that I'm also in on LOV and have zero doubt that it will deliver.

I do have a question/feature request...with the new internet connected scoring/tracking being implemented in a couple other manufactures games, is there anything in the works for AP? With Stern forging their own path, I'm wondering if AP would consider teaming up with Scorbit for personalized score tracking. Seems like there may be an opportunity to add this type of connectivity similar to what JJP did with their recent code/hardware (WiFi adapter) updates. Thoughts?

Dunno if this is still current but two months ago on the Dead Flip stream AP said Houdini is in production but the entire run was spoken for, and they were doing a second line to produce Oktoberfest and what we now know is Valhalla.

Kinda weird that pinball manufacturers don’t post their production run schedules on their website. It always ends up being this weird dance of people hearing little bits of information from distributors and podcasts

Quoted from Spiderpin:

Currently Hw and lov are on the lines. I would expect lov to be on line 2 for the foreseeable future. HW will likely be on line 1 for at least a month or two, I would expect okto next on line 1, but depends on availability of a new upgraded part. After okto could be back to HW or possibly Houdini, will depend on backlogged orders and parts availability.

I believe API+Scorbit talks are already happening or have happened. I would also love to see Scorbit support similar to JJP built into the CPU unit code and not require an add-on card, other than maybe a USB Wi-Fi adapter for non-Ethernet.

Oh cool, I got my complimentary copy of the Pin Side Legends of Valhalla special edition magazine up here in Canada. Didn't think you'd send us one. Much obliged!

Probably good karma since, you know, we actually had Vikings settle our east coast in 1021AD in territory since relinquished to the province of Newfoundland.

Yes its a mod i made, pretty straight forward. For warranty reasons i power it with a USB cable, i just don't want to use the power cycle ingame.
So i don't have an idea how to get the 5v directly from the machine.

Small introduction off the mod :

1x Hot Wheels Sign (from wish or aliexpress)
1x Slow turning engine 5v
1x little iron rod
1x coupling
1x little metal plate
1x USB cable + common converter or USB Hub

You have to order the hot wheels sign (normally it's for real cars). It comes in 2 halfs, remove the foamtape on the back and glue both halfs together.
Drill a small hole for the little iron rod and glue it in the sign.
The motor comes with two little screws on the top, get them out and mark all holes that are needed on the small metal plate.
You need the two small holes that hold the motor and a bigger one for the screw of the orange ramp, and one for the turning motor rod.
The motor is just easily connectet to the USB cable (5v power), the cable goes trough the neraby playfield hole, in my case also trough a tiny gap between the grid in the back of the cabinet.
If everything is mounted just connect the sign and the motor with the coupling.

I try to find the stuff to add some links. Here is a small picture of my sign.

Pretty sure better solutions are easy, but i really don't want to use the power ingame. But thats also the case in my other games.

I had an epic race on Hot Wheels! Check this out. What is the world record? When I spoke with Michael Grant he said it was 58 seconds.

I thought it was 57 seconds? -- At least in the IFPA Hot Wheels Challenge we did shortly after the game debuted. But there were still some missed shots even on those times, so I'm guessing 50 seconds may be possible.

Regardless, 65 seconds is outstanding, congrats!
