Here's a clip from last nights Trash Talker Invitational. Nick Destefano crushes Hotwheels in the first game of the tournament. He really starts to blow it up around the 8 minute mark. https://www.twitch.tv/videos/949031097

Thanks for sharing, Chuck! Wow, Nick put on a clinic!

Congrats! Please share some photos of the game once set up! I love seeing our games set up in their natural habitat.

Awesome pin, but like any pin, setup matters. I played a different HW and they did not have it setup correctly. Multiple airballs all over the place and I kept jumping off the right ramp. It got frustrating to play. Not the pins fault of course.

Who's the shipper, that box is in mint condition. I want one too.

Shes all setup (minus the topper). Put up a billion in my first hour of ownership. The shaker motors is something else when maxed out. I had to dial it down a little bit. Lol. Is there anyway to make adjustments to fix the fan noise? She sounds like crickets in the night at the moment. Otherwise super impressed and satisfied!

The freight company was TForce Worldwide. They did a fantastic job. Shane at mainehomerec arranged the shipment. What I found incredible is that I received the unit less than 7 days after placing my order. Ordered 4:30PM EST 3/8, received 11AM 3/15.

Congratulations, Jason! Hope you love your new Hot Wheels. Let us know if you have any questions at all about the game. And I would love to see some pictures of it once it has arrived and is set up. Woo hoo!

Will do! Wife is very excited. Going to be a serious rainbow of color competition between Wonka and Hot Wheels! Lots of pins to choose from out there, but this one kept coming up! Now to start looking for cars to add!

Edit:
Fixed the resolution and the custom message still isn't displaying. I can tell the machine is trying but the display just goes black after the American Pinball logo cycles. I attached the full res file. I'm sure this is user error.

If you have turned it on in settings, you should either see it, or a message about an issue with it. Are you not seeing the latter?

You can also pull the logs and send to me, I can't recall what we log about the custom message, but it might shed light.

looks like something odd in the file, not sure what, but I've fixed it for you, and it works for me, DM your email address and I'll send it over

For those people having issues with your leds getting stuck on a color. Take a close look at all of your cabling from the main led boards and to the smaller linked satellite boards. I found two pins not fully seated into their plug. This was on the wider black colored plugs that link the main led boards to the smaller satellite boards. What I would do is remove these plugs from the board and gently (gently) give each wire a little tug. They should not pull right out of the connector. If they do, push them back in and see if they will lock into the plug.

Just go deaf in one ear and loose partial hearing in the other like me and you will never again care about fan noise. I have to focus on the advantages..

That's certainly one strategy. I'm sure I'll be there one day myself. AP tech support gave me a ring yesterday and they're going to sort me out.

Almost forgot to mention! The wallpaper rosh fixed for me worked like a charm. Thanks for the great support!

Playing a game last night and the display went blank and all sound stopped. Everything on the playfield still worked as if nothing happen just no display or sound. Rebooted and everything was fine. If it happens again I’ll download the logs at next boot up.

#2521 3 years ago

We received our Hot Wheels pin today and its awesome and everything appears to be working correctly out the box! Its so refreshing that a NIB pin is actually fully functional straight from the factory. American pinball hands down packs their games the best too. I believe a forklift driver could drop a boxed up American Pinball and the machine would still be fine. It even has instructions on how to unbox the game!

#2522 3 years ago

Has anyone figured out a fix for the airballs? I have done the suggested replacement of the foam backing to the softer gray colored foam. I still get way too many crazy airballs and I am not sure changing out the foam made any difference. I am one notch lower from factory flipper strength setting. Maybe someone can explain why this is happening. I am usually pretty good at figuring out stuff but this one I just can’t see. Could it be the stickers on the targets. What about these targets is different from any other game?

#2523 3 years ago

Actually I was at 23....two notches below factory. I lowered it to 22 and it seems better. The ramp can still be back flipped so...pretty good. I’d still like to know why these targets produce airballs..

We have our hot wheels out on temp trade with someone and they told us they have had the same thing happen to them. I've never experienced it but now I'm curious if there is a root cause for that happening

#2525 3 years ago

If the screen blanks and the sound stops, that would be indicative of the A/V system crashing... which obviously shouldn't happen. The last time anyone told us about such a crash was on August 15, 2020, and that bug was fixed in the 20.09.01 code update.

If you encounter such a problem, capture the logs if possible, make a note of the date/time when the problem occurred, and generally what was going on in the game at the time... shoot that info to me here, or email to ferret <at> americanpinball.com. Will be very happy to check it out and fix it... I'm personally offended by crashes.

Thanks!

Little bummed but still hopeful my Hot Wheels pin will arrive in NC soon. Ordered Tuesday, Maine recreation said it should ship next day, than Thursday, than Friday. Still nothing. Called shipping company Dayton Freight with BOL # and they had no info for of any deliveries to my zip code. Lady on phone did a another search and said it may be picked up Monday now, but could not confirm. Not sure if this is a distributor issue, shipping issue, or stock at American pinball. I hope this will all be worked out soon, just a bummer that I’m having issues of just getting something picked up, let alone delivering the pinball machine safely.

#2527 3 years ago

On the good news for American pinball, once I get it, lots of my pinball owning friends will be playing it and maybe translating into more orders!!!!

#2528 3 years ago

Shipping is always an odyssey...belive me, i bought one in europe.
Over here anything is still delayed because of covid, hope you will get your masterpiece as fast as possible.
But the most important is a safe delivery.

A small question, i have a blown fuse on the powerboard 12v (as far as i see in the manual). On the fuse itself (burned) its written a F4(fast) on the manual there are only slow fuses described.

Can i use a slow fuse instead ? Otherwise i have to order new fast ones.

Thanks for the response,

daniel

I am not sure how many Hotwheels AP is shipping, but I can count at least 5 or 6 within 30 minutes of where I live, Mesa, AZ and they all have arrived within 2 weeks. Hotwheels is a blast and if anyone is on the fence about it, dont be, its good.

Hi Everyone, We've had our HW pinball for less than a month now. Getting it to where it is installed, was a story in itself. We just luv our pinball machine. No doubt about it, it's the best machine available. We have absolutely hammered our machine. 500 5 ball games in 20days, 2000 balls. We just luv those airballs, it adds to the unpredictability of the game. Lots of small 1mm pit marks on the playfield though which gives it character. Not so good for pinball purists I suspect. The hw build of the machine is exceptional and the code is pretty bug free considering its complexity. Well done AP.
We ran the machine factory shipped 20.08.01 code for 80 games and encountered multiple A/V crashes as well as many stuck playfield lights. After installing 20.12.10 we only had an A/V crash a couple of days ago after 450 games. This time the screen went blank and then cycled the primary 3 colours every 5 secs. Reboot fixed it always. We still have the stuck light problem every session and I'll go through the RGB cabling as suggested to look for loose connectors in connector plugs. I'm an electrical engineer, worked at IBM prior 2000 as hw/sw/comms specialist, educator on all platforms. Its my job to maintain and root out problems and resolve them. My mate is permanently connected to oxygen 24/7, COPD, and not a bad pinball player. Hence the moniker, handle. We're two old blokes having a hell of a fun time on our first pinny. Did I say that we just luv our pinball machine. P.S. Our hands, legs and arms get very sore and we have to take a few days off to recover. RSI.

#2531 3 years ago

Wow - I never measured angle of my machine but with leg bolt adjustment all the way in I knew it wasn’t fast enough. Backed back leg bolts out an inch and checked level side to side which was good - no more than an inch on the back though and immediately enjoyed game play much more. I have had maybe 5 air balls off targets - usually during a multi ball when I’m not controlling shots.

Have had more launch balls off the right ramp than off targets but still nothing I’d be concerned about. I have some Lexan on order to see if I can rig something for right ramp.

Edit here’s mine with PinGuy app

I’ve had my Hot Wheels machine for almost 6 months and I have yet to figure out a reliable solution for the constant air balls. I’ve lowered the flipper strength, adjusted the table pitch a million times, adjusted the RPM targets, changed the flipper rubbers to a softer compound and I still get almost 1 airball per ball.

It’s so frustrating to be having a good ball and then the car or RPM targets will just launch an airball right over my flippers into the trough or bounce it off the glass causing nice moon craters in the playfield. I have maybe 200 plays on mine and the RPM and car targets are beat to hell. When I replace those I’m going to try adding some foam backing or use a softer plastic all together. I’ve never had or played another machine that was so prone to just tossing the ball all over the playfield like a scud middle....keep those cars zip tied!

Yea, same here. I have no idea. I am at very close to 6.5 degrees, probably a little under I think it was. My target stickers are getting beat to hell. The targets themselves seem to be holding up fine. The playfield has a lot of ball dents but so does my Dialed In. My plan is to play these playfields to death. Then either hang them on the wall or throw them in the trash when I get a new one some day (hopefully). I get the same though once in a while, wild ball launch right over the flipper. I am waiting for the glass to shatter, only then will I consider it an Epic game lol. In all seriousness maybe someone will figure something out. Not that it is a solution but the factory flipper setting is too high, but it does help to lower it.

#2537 3 years ago

Maybe they added a special award :

windshield crash multiball.... EPIC !

Sorry that i have to ask again, but does it matter using slow or fast fuse for 12v board ?

#2538 3 years ago

Since hopefully soon I will get my Hot Wheels pin, I searched and have not been able to come up with a plastic protector kit in either colored or clear plastic for this pin. One company comes up, Clip, but it is sold overseas. Is there anything available I missed sold in the US? Like to install plastic protectors on all my games to keep them just a little safer.

#2539 3 years ago

Yeah the Clip set is available in yellow, i would like a orange one. They just ship within europe. I could send you a pack if you can't find it in the US.

22 worked for me @ 6.5 pitch. But, I still do get an occasion air ball, but it's not bad. I might increase the pitch some more. Titan makes these tapered post sleeves that I installed on my ACNC. These might be a good idea on HW. Their purpose is to reduce air balls. They install with wider end up.

What happens when it crashes? Is it just a reset back to square one, or does it just lock up in some random state? Maybe you have intermittent power to your motherboard or some other related component? I would look closely at all the cabling if you have not already. It is at least something you can do while you wait to capture the logs and send them out.

Fred over at Game Room Goodies is an American Pinball distributor, which is certainly a contributing factor to them being here in Arizona.

Sorry that you didn't get an answer sooner! The manual <http://s4.american-pinball.com/img/support/2020-7/Hot-Wheels-Manual-7-13-2020.pdf> specifies slow-blow fuses throughout.

#2547 3 years ago

Thanks a lot ! As everybody says :

AP has the best customer support ! Unfortunately i have issues with my game...but :

You guys are always so helpful, on pinside and email ! A big thanks for this !

#2548 3 years ago

Generally speaking, you can replace a slow blow with a quick blow fuse but be prepared it could blow in use. Never replace a quick blow with a slow blow as extra damage to components and circuitry may result. When a fuse blows you need to investigate as to why did it blow. Usually its indicating a fault somewhere.

#2549 3 years ago

In this case, it sounds like Daniel's machine shipped with a fast-blow fuse installed where a slow-blow is documented... so that itself may be why the fuse blew: wrong type installed.

#2550 3 years ago

Just an aside on the energy usage of the HW pinball machine. It idles at 75W and when a game is in progress it goes up to about 100-160Watts. Every now and then it will surge to 500-600W only for a split second! An 8hr hard use session will see it use about 0.5kWh of energy ( 1.8MegaJoules) or about 10c of electricity. Very cheap entertainment.
