Quoted from MrSanRamon:

I've had cars fall off inside the game, and I have reset them only to have them fall off again.
So I drilled a small hole, 5/64, and put a small screw through the base plate into the car.
The cars that I did this to aren't going to fall off again.

@ MrSanRamon

That will keep your grandkids from pulling them out of the game.

Must be rough at your house when the grandkids ask for ice cream or something. LOL

I just updated my code, man was it easy to do.

Easiest that I have ever done, wish other manufacturers games were as easy.

Thinking about joining the club. Is there any issues with this pin? Also, is it like stern where prices can vary by distributor?

There may be some variance but not too much I think. The price is the same ball park in the neighborhood of $6000-6300 NIB. Only issues I have had are the settings and from what you have read so far -
* Change pads underneath stop lights and RPM switches.
* Screw cars down so they don't get knocked off.
* When you get really deep into the game there are known bugs were the LEDS get flustered and don't know what to do so they stay a certain color. That is a known bug in the code and is easily fixed by restarting the machine.
* You may need to screw flat some popup switches - not a big deal - where balls sometimes get stuck.
* Not one of these are showstoppers.

* You get almost instantaneous support from Rosh, Ferret and Dave on the forums or from American Pinball.
* Random machines have $3000 - in hundreds taped on top of the shaker motor - NO THAT IS NOT TRUE - IGNORE THIS ONE PLEASE.

*If you are planning on running it on a location - you need to dial back the flipper strength - or bolt down the car on the right side ramp because it may get hit a lot.
* It is a great family friendly theme.
* It is just plain crazy fun with very well synchronized shaker motor action, lights and sounds.

If in doubt, try playing it and see for yourself if it is for you or not.
Oh and will it be better than your Avengers Infinity Quest LE machine? Dude, you KNOW it will be EPIC better It has claymation in it ! ! ! !
(Pinball is a subjective hobby - ordered a premium AIQ myself.)

If you have problems with the Velcro not holding a car securely, but don’t want to drill holes, you could also try a clear cable tie. Obviously not quite as clean a look. You can also simply try a different piece of Velcro, since in my experience some pieces of Velcro are just grippier than others, for reasons I don’t understand.

Haha, well thanks for the great reply!! Hoping aiq le comes soon and probably will get a HW so I be able to compare.

If anyone knows of a great distributor that I could get it around 6 to Michigan let me know. There is a local one that’s 6300 so might just go with them

Some pieces of velcro are better than others. Also a good squeeze helps. I have not had a car come loose with the exception of one early on and did change cars in my game. I noticed one velcro that seemed less grippy and changed it when I switched out the cars. No issues with loose cars. Give the cars a good squeeze when you set up your game initially when you cut off the factory ties.

Well, looks like I'll be joining this club very soon! I just put my order in and paid yesterday. The family and I are very excited for this!
In Canada there are only a few distributors, so my pin has to travel roughly 2,200 km (1367 miles) from the distributor to me, so it may take a few days to get here. But I'm sure it will be well worth the wait. The waiting feeling reminds me of being a kid at Christmas time!
Hooray!

#1462 3 years ago

Also, thanks to everyone here for sharing your thoughts and opinions on the game, it really helped me decide to go this route on my first NIB pin.
One of the biggest deciding factors for me was quality control. After researching and talking to multiple people, American Pinball really has a reputation for using quality parts and playfields. If I'm buying a new in box pinball machine, knowing that quality is there was a huge factor for me. Combine that in with all the other factors that make Hot Wheels a great pin, and it made it an easy decision to make.

#1463 3 years ago

Thanks for your trust in American Pinball and in Hot Wheels, @sixtyfourbits! I hope the game gives you and your family many years of fun.

#1464 3 years ago

Sign me up as a member of the club, a NIB Hot Wheels should be showing up sometime in the next week and a half. Definitely a "one more game" kind of table.

Really fun table to shoot, plays fast without getting too wild, great dynamic music, and an amazing light show. Looking forward to the table arrival!

Welcome to the club, @Caviel! Thanks for the kind words... hope you have a blast with your new game!

MSRP is $6,295, so I would not expect to find any NIB for less. I just want to manage your expectations. It seems most dealers are selling them for this price.

Thank you for considering Hot Wheels!

A lot of distributors will take off 2-3% off MSRP if you pay with check or bank transfer. This way they don't get charged a CC processing fee. So they are basically passing the savings on to you. It would only amount to 150 bucks so won't get you to 6K. You can always call around. You might find one that would do 6K.

Quoted from Potatoloco:

Put it this way. I gave my 9 year old son the choice between keeping Hot Wheels or TMNT LE. He chose Hot Wheels. Out of all the pins I've had, Hot Wheels is the only one any of my children have gotten attached to.

It is the new favorite at our house as well. The kids and the wife have declared hot wheels their new #1

Quoted from MrSanRamon:

The grandkids came over yesterday and played Hot Wheels for a short period of time.
The older ones thought it was great and wanted to play it longer.
But the 3-year-old played for a little bit and then wanted me to get him the yellow Hot Wheels car inside the game. And he wouldn't play any longer, he just started crying when his mom said you can't have that car.
Robert

we bought duplicates of my son's favorite cars to avoid this problem.

i dont know if the warranty is transferable but for an extra 300 i would go the NIB route i think you are covered for 6 months so to me its not alot for this extra insurance in a 6000+ toy. plus this game is so great to unwrap from a new box.

Received mine today. Very pleased with the packaging and quality of the machine. I have played their other machines but this is my first new in box.
I can only say a very fun machine that makes you want to come back more games. It makes you want to get further in the game to see the animations and the call outs.
I've only put about 10 games on it but so far nothing but great things to say about it.
Keep up the great work American pinball!!

Great pics robotron and out of COVID induced boredom, experience and idle curiosity I'll say that it appears that all Hot Wheels games I've seen pics of are apparently using Bader playfields. Man, I have got to find somewhere to play this game!

i played about 110 games and very few dimples.

cool

(under the PF) it feels with less material than OF... but of course this means just nothing lol
and the same impression of having a quality build product

really hoping to soon see/play one here in europe, HW still on my wishlist with few others

I definitely have dimples. This game inherently will have some air balls. Not much you can do there.

oktoberfest costs 1000 more and it really looks packed like a jjp game. the thing is there are many little details on hotwheels mine was 6300 with shipping 6600. a stern pro is msrp 6100 and looks bare. when i buy a stern pro i know i am not getting any extras they really are strict when it comes to bom. last night when i opened hotwheels and saw the powder coated yellow rails i was pleasently surprised. you know stern would never “throw” those type things in for their customers granted they went from the poles to rails recently. the side art, the flipper decals, the apron decals. the color changing gi’s and inserts, the great sound, the real backglass has sparkles in it (look close). just the little attention to detail makes me think AP just doesnt slap games together. i recently had a cracked target and went online to make a claim. i immediately got a response the next day for the claim. they also have great customer service.

Reviews like this are what helped me decide on an American Pinball's Hot Wheels over going with a Stern pro instead. American Pinball really does seem to go the extra mile on a lot of little extras, and the end sum of the parts result in a really polished end product. I can't wait to get mine.

Talking about extras, yesterday I was trying to read up on if anyone had attached an external sub to their Hot Wheels, as I have a few attached to my current pins, and figured with the car sounds and music, a sub would be a must. When I got reading, I realized that Hot wheels already has 4 stereo speakers and an 8" subwoofer installed! Not sure how I missed that, but that's awesome!

the sound is pretty good. i like the game pumped up loud for a few games at a time. thats all i can handle with the bass and rumble of the shaker it can get loud. btw not stern bashing in any way as i am ordering an avengers pro and i will tweak it with some mods. keeps my mind off the covid situation. gotta order my LTG gorrilla for my hotwheels.

and already said all the positive i feel about API, for sure gage of quality

#1490 3 years ago
Quoted from Yokimato:

One thing I did notice while putting on my topper was that the sound bar is sending out some "noise" when idle on. You can't hear it when the game is running, and you'd have to be close to the sound bar to hear it, but curious if this is common?

I didn't skim through all of the pages of the thread to check for others that responded to your question, but I figured I would share my audio issues from my new table delivered yesterday (September manufacture date). I also opened a new ticket last night with API in case anyone from API sees this before the case response goes out.

As I played first game after setup, a static hiss and ticking sound steadily grew louder as the game audio faded. The distributor's delivery guy and I shut off the table, pulled the backglass, and noticed a few of the speaker wires in the amp were loose. We reseated the speaker wires which stopped the behavior, so we chalked it up to the table's ride to my house jostling things loose. I still had a faint buzz, but I could at least hear the game audio consistently.

During my bout with insomnia last night, I poked around a little more to find the buzz and I found something to explore. There is a 3.5mm cable connection between the P-ROC (PC?) audio out and the amp driving the speakers. The buzz sounded like ground loop feedback, although the cable goes through a ground loop isolator. I messed with the 3.5mm cable at all of the cable plug junctions (wiggling and partial plug pulls) which caused the same noise to come back, so I continued to dig.

As soon as I fully disconnected the 3.5mm line the buzz went away, so this looks like this may be a problem with noise on the audio feed or a true ground loop problem since there is a powered amp involved. I unwrapped the audio wires from the two holding clips, and the first thing I noticed is that I believe the isolator was connected in reverse. The "Out" side of the isolator was plugged into the main audio output port like this:

P-ROC (PC?) case audio out (F) > (M) 3.5mm stub cable (M) > (F) "Out" label side [isolator] "In" label side (M) > (F) Amp 3.5mm input

After swapping the connections, the buzz went away and the noise is now reduced to a ticking sound. I also tried using the stub cable to go straight from the P-ROC into the amp to see how bad the noise problem is without any ground isolation. Don't do it, horrendous feedback and noise.

Next step, I'm going to look into a new ground loop isolator replacement in case this isolator is faulty. Possibly something like this one that has a ground shunt, direct 3.5mm support to avoid adapters, and won't cause low frequency (bass) attenuation:

https://www.bestbuy.com/site/metra-ground-loop-isolator-black/9855136.p?skuId=9855136

I might look at adding a clip-on ferrite bead on the cable, but this may be a relatively cheap fix if it works. I might take a look at upgrading the speaker wire to stranded copper core, but hopefully I can avoid that invasive of a change if it isn't needed.

Would anyone here be able to tell me the dimensions of the box hot wheels comes in? Just thinking I should check now to see if it will fit in my van, fit down my stairs, through my front door, etc. Or if I will need to unbox it before it hits the basement.
Thanks!

Actually it is not too bad, certainly a lot easier than games from the 90s. On HW in the lower cabinet there is as set of connectors for most of the wires going to the head, so disconnecting those and a couple cables from the computer and the display (2 Power, 2 USB that need to be dropped down into the cabinet) is all that is needed. It is possible the sub woofer disconnect is in the head. Back in the sparring I moved both a HW and an Okto into my basement with the heads off. So, while not a 5 minute thing, but not as bad as you might expect.

Would anyone here be able to tell me the dimensions of the box hot wheels comes in? Just thinking I should check now to see if it will fit in my van, fit down my stairs, through my front door, etc. Or if I will need to unbox it before it hits the basement.
Thanks!

Pretty sure it is . . .

Game box size: 58” Height X 30” Wide X 31” Length

Pallet size: 33” x 35”

Welcome to the club!

Wow, Sunday delivery? I've seen that for Amazon packages and such, but I'm pretty impressed that big cargo gets delivered on Sunday too.

I sent an email last week to info@AP. I wish to acquire additional platforms to place more cars under glass. Please, thanks.

A variety of fabrics arrived for a project topper. It's crazy cool; there's a flaming pinball in the design. I wish to portion a bit for a trailing banner behind a spinning Mad Propz/Hot Wheels Plane (props to the creative genius of The MOD Couple). I'd like to keep the original brackets/cars in storage, then modify new brackets for the project.
