Quoted from cjchand:

Can anyone here speak to how their game played before and after? I’m super eager for the HS Hardtop to be released, but my playfield isn’t totally trashed, either. So, doing what I do best: overthink things... despite the post immediately above

I just put one on my Flash Gordon last weekend. It looks AMAZING and plays great. The only issue I'm having is that I still need to do a lot of adjustments due to the added height of the hardtop. I had to raise two of the ramps so the ball wouldn't get stuck at the lower spinners (I used some thin poster board screwed in on each end of the ramps to add a bit of height). If you have star rollovers, be REALLY careful to make them level with the hardtop, because mine settled after install and the ball gets stuck on them. I even had a ball get stuck on an inlane rollover, but a sharp nudge dislodged it. I'm glad I did the hardtop because my playfield was trashed, but you have to be prepared for some adjustments. A new playfield would be the ideal option, but you're looking at much more money and a hell of a lot more work. I still think it's a great product, and I'm thrilled they make it for Frontier, because I desperately want a Frontier and every one I've seen has a blown-out playfield.

One thing I'll add is that I've seen so many folks talking about sanding and clearing the entire playfield. I can understand that to a degree if you're an absolute perfectionist, but all I did was sand the area around the inserts and I got great results. There are a few areas on my Flash Gordon where the pre-cut holes on the hardtop are large enough that you can see a bit of the original playfield underneath, and personally, I'd rather see the original paint than sanded, cleared wood. To each their own, but you don't have a ton of free time on your hands and you want to get back to playing, I think you can get awesome results just by sanding the inserts and rubbing a little Novus 2 into them before installing the hardtop.

I got a Flash Gordon in a trade that came with a Hardtop. After installing the Hardtop and replacing pretty much everything you can see in this pic, including the plastics, pop caps and flipper bats, I'm incredibly impressed with the results. It probably looks better than it did back in '81.

Quoted from bombpop:

Please do Grand Lizard.

They said at one point that they were planning to do Grand Lizard as part of their next batch of Hardtops. I hope that pans out, my upper playfield looks awful.

At one point, Outside Edge said that Grand Lizard would be released (fairly) soon, but I haven't heard a word since then. Really hoping that one pans out, my upper playfield is toast.

Quoted from dyopp21:

In the case of this particular title the artwork is so simple I’ve considered pulling the protector and the overlay, sanding it smooth again and setting it up on an easel in front of the TV. Then I’ll fire up an old episode of Bob Ross and try to paint the same scene he is painting directly on the playfield (while making it fit the weird dimensions of course). Or maybe I’ll just wait.

Nah, I recommend you do the first one, but only if you put on a perm wig and post a video going through the process.

Quoted from arcademojo:

The grand lizard one is really going to make an impact. So many of these have trashed playfields

Mine definitely does. Can't wait for that hardtop to come out.
