Premium all the way here. I can't justify LE at around $12k. Prem will be close to 10 and that's painful enough, but I will want full gameplay. I'm over the LE thing anyway now. I'm a player, not a collector (of signatures).

I'm starting to think I want to hear the sound package more than I want to see the layout before I commit. Not a lot mentioned about the soundtrack in there other than *one* actor. I bet that theme is pretty expensive to license. There's no way they could leave that out is there??
Quoted from bb2j3z:Can't believe a brand manager for GOT would have signed off on this?
I'd say the brand manager *demanded* it. It was probably the pinball guys going, "really? We have to make it look like that?"
Quoted from jgentry:You don't belong on pinside. You have to piss and moan and make sure to dislike everything. Your reasonable thinking is not welcome here
A lot of the folks not liking this liked a lot of other things.
This was always going to be a tough reveal given that expectations were off the charts. You have to grant them that.
It is just NOT game of Thrones. The problem here is that the PF does not look at ALL like or make you feel like the show does. The mood is all wrong. It's more like this..
is this very Game of thrones?..
image.jpg
Are these the MM slingshot archers at the flippers?..
image.jpg
And where the hell IS this exactly? It doesn't remind me of anything anywhere in the GoT universe.
image.jpg
This misses more and more as you look longer at it.
Quoted from smokedog:Why do you say that? There are castles in GoT. And dragons.
He's saying it's none of them in particular. Which castle is it supposed to be?
Quoted from o-din:I don't see why people bitch. It's not like they have to buy it.
I think it's more like disappointment. So many people wanted this to be so epic. Maybe it could never have met expectations that were set so high.
^^^^
Except there are two parts to an homage, choice of material and execution. It has to be done delicately and on a worthy underlying asset. Neither is the case here.
Quoted from jgentry:Exactly, people act like every game released should be exactly what they want it to be. If you don't like it, don't buy it. If that happens with enough people enough times in a row things will change.
Stern announces the games and starts making them, nothing is going to change on these. The playfields are likely already done. I can't figure out why this hobby creates so much pissing and moaning. It's OK if you skip a few releases, you don't have to buy them all.
If everyone just quietly refused to buy it, and didn't use this publicly available venue designed expressly for discussing pinball machines, to discuss their refusal to buy it, then everyone would be sitting around wondering, "gee, why don't I see any GoT around? Did many people buy one? If not, why not?". Well, now you know.
Quoted from PPS:only fitting that MM given it's on the line at Stern would have an easter egg In GoT especially given the original artist there on the floor! Just surprised it was found so quickly
Surprised, really? It smacks you in the face.
Quoted from aobrien5:Stannis did.
Or, did he?
Could Brienne have copped a crossbow bolt in the back before she hit him?
Quoted from XXVII:I took a quick stab at what would have made me excited for the GoT cabinet.
Great stuff. What continues to be so sad is that so many people can come up with passable alternatives in hours. What the hell went wrong????????????
Quoted from XXVII:I've worked with myriad graphic designers on countless projects
And, you used "myriad" properly. I'll give you a thumbs up just for that!
Edit-- hey, grammar police have good cop/bad cop too you know.
Quoted from kaneda:Can we all stop bitching about the art now? Seriously. We're all a bunch of babies. The game looks like an amazing shooter and is gonna SHIP! You can either play this pin or keep waiting a year for Alien. What say you?
Quoted from kaneda:This morning I woke up, looked over the GOT art again and then looked down at this. My god Stern, you KNOW how to make a fantasy pin's art work, how the hell did you mess it up so bad. Looking at this pin is like starring into the world of Middle Earth. I don't get any of that from GOT. No characthers, no familiar structures, no wall, no white walkers, no giant, no John Snow, no unsully (sp?)...it's like the entire playfield has no visual cues to the show other than the Flags, which nobody cares about or sees during the show.
To think Stern could crank this out in 2004 and has had 10 years to improve makes GOT art even that much more laughable.
Quoted from Asael:But the artwork missed the chance to get new people to buy pinball games.
And new people don't know who the hell SR is, nor are they that discerning when it comes to gameplay, so the art's all they got.
Quoted from grifter:Reading this has me wondering what I'm missing out on with JJP machines.
Kinda off topic, but are they much better than all recent Sterns?
Come over and play my WOZ if you like. It sits between AC/DC and Metallica.
Quoted from Iceman5000:I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the fact that this game is being marketed as "Game of Thrones Pinball by HBO"
I sure hope this will be HBO's last outing as a pinball company.
Quoted from Rockytop:I love the 5x playfield.
That's what made my ears stand up. LOVE a chunky PF multiplier. I never leave 2x at 2x on ACDC. 3x or death!!!!
Quoted from dmbjunky:And the next game they make, maybe they will put a little more thought into the art.
Like SMVE comic art. Could be the great comeback.
Quoted from rotordave:That's because most people are sheep.
They want to be told what to do and told what to like.
Simon Cowell knows this.
Quoted from winteriscoming:Like I said, maybe it's income level. I'd be willing to pay maybe 1k for the GOT pin I'm seeing, and I'd ignore the art and other superficial issues I have with it.
That would be part of it. Everything is a spectrum. Everything. There is no hard and fast line where a product becomes suddenly unbuyable. It's a gradient. Damn there's that word! But it is. It's all a big bell curve and things like this move the arrow along the curve and some drop out. But not all. Same with price. Only percentages are being moved, not the whole population at once.
Quoted from Jean-Luc-Picard:ART.gif
I SWEAR I can hear that if I watch it closely enough!!
