As with all things, it depends. But the short answer is no. It's more complicated than that, but good art isn't some unobtainable goal, that's crazy expensive in any way shape or form.
I don't have any inside info on how Stern worked on GOT, so I can only make educated guesses here based on what has been made public. But it appears they contracted out the LE backglass and cabinet art, and did everything else in house. Presuming people like Greg Freres are salaried, and not paid in any kind of contract/commission basis then that art is just part of their operating costs. So you're paying for a finished product, quality not really being part of the equation.
Supposedly Zombie Yeti is working with them, maybe on Ghostbusters. I hope he's charging Stern more than he did Jpop, because he gave John a hell of a deal, it wasn't expensive at all.
It's not like Stern is unwilling to go out of house. That Mustang art turned out to be a total joke, totally crapped out Photoshops, but they apparently paid the guy anyways. And of course Dirty Donny with Metallica.
I'm sure there's a story behind the Game of Thrones art. We can only act on what we see, we may never know what went down to lead to it. But the bottom line is that it sucks, and at the end of the day when you're spending your $7,000 or whatever you don't really care why, you just don't particularly want it.

Seriously, the game is what it is. There's no fixing it now. Chalk it up to a missed opportunity and move on. Either enjoy it as is or find something else to enjoy instead. I'm looking forward to playing one myself, just have zero plans to actually own one. I supposed it's possible I could change my mind, but I find the art so irritating that it's really unlikely I'll want to stare at it all the time.

I for one appreciate the effort. We can't complain and bitch, and then not respond when they listen. Because let's be honest, this wasn't how it was going to be originally, they changed things because we spoke up. There's no way that they just randomly decided to change the gradient in the middle of the playfield on a whim.
So kudos to Stern for putting in some effort.
I'm looking forward to seeing the Premium in person. I doubt it will be at Expo which is too bad, but I'll find one sometime I'm sure.
One thing that's a little surprising/disappointing is that it has generic armor. Ritchie Premiums have had upgraded armor as of late, I thought this would be the same. I really loved the powdercoat on my Star Trek Premium, and the red on my ACDC Premium is great too. The black doesn't look bad though, it fits the tone, so not a huge deal.
Maybe it was purposefully kept plain to give more shine to the LE, because with the playfield improvements this is the version to buy now. Anyone in on an LE switching to Premium now?

We've seen time and time again that speaking up works. And if it didn't fix everything on GOT then I think they're going to keep us in mind for future releases.
And that's great. I don't complain to dump on Stern. I bring up what matters to me because I hope that companies listen and provide a better product that we can buy. We all win that way.

The snow on the cogs and gears is 50/50 if it was added or always there.
JJP can't miss on their pins. They really need to please the customer. And they do go above and beyond to deliver a great pin.
