Wow! The armchair quarterbacking is pretty intense here!
Your memories are short! Rolling Stones had to match the then current edition of the RS Monopoly and other RS merch ffs. Look at the DM translite. Look at the non-interactive Smaug. License holders have weird demands and maybe this was at the end of a long line of rejected concepts and they simply had to go with it to get the game into production. In addition, most games look better in person than in photos (let alone renders) just look at the Star Trek or AC/DC playfields, or the first leaked cabinet photos of Rolling Stones, or the photos of Mustang, etc..
Quoted from benheck:The irony is Stern defends the GOT look, yet is heavily rumored to re-release Spider-Man with comic book art as the main selling point?
Since the original trilogy is outdated, with the last film being released over eight years ago, I doubt that Sony/Marvel would have let them use the old artwork assets. Plus, with the two reboot films not being very loved and now being rebooted themselves, the state of Spider-Man as a film franchise is a little bit in limbo, so the comics artwork is a timeless, safer bet.
I'll probably end up with an LE or a Premium of GOT as the game looks fun with lots of cool features like the decapitation ball-lock release which looks awesome in the video Stern released.
