And with the exception of WWE people are buying up large quantities of Stern pins. As I've said before; Stern is laughing at JJP all the way to the bank.

Maybe not this time around. I really feel they thought GOT was going to fly off the shelves. For some reason I don't think that will happen for 3 reasons

1. They fuc*ed up the art
2. They raised the MSRP
3. The currency sucks for anyone else but the Americans (i know.. i know...I`m just stating a fact not complaining)

Sure they are! They have only lost out on the $30 million in sales that JJP took in.

More and more people are saying no to Sterns recent stripped down games. At some point a game needs to be more then just fun to justify a $5k-$8k price point.

At today's NIB prices Stern has no excuse for not offering games as featured packed as those that they charged half the price for nearly 10 years ago.

Stern has nothing to worry about and are probably happy watching JJP step on their dick time and time again with their continued delays and inability to produce new games.

I don't disagree that Stern is charging too much for LE and Premium pins. But.. I just bought a walking dead pro and enjoy playing it way more than Woz and it's 1/2 the price. In that sense why pay 2X for a game that's just not as much fun? Now, I wouldn't spend a dime on WWE =)

I think MSRP for GOT is kept the same as what Walking Dead and KISS were. WWE was slightly less. So the recent increase across the board happened with Walking Dead if I am reading the chart correctly. But regardless your point may very well be valid. It may not sell as well as they are expecting.

I admit it, I laughed. I hope people aren't let down when they actually see it playing though. I want to see what Steve and Dwight did.

Is it possible that GOT is going to be a flop????

Quoted from 1967Firebird:

Star Trek was quoted around 4600.00 for me at the time.

that list was purely the press release MSRP prices at the time of each launch, so dealers are probably supplying better prices and MSRP on some titles may have gone up as well as think I read that the MSRP on say Metallica is a little higher now. Purely putting some data in as a measure and interesting that ever SR pin the price goes up except for GOT.

#3864 8 years ago

I loved the list of the MSRP, I just gave the prices because the MSRP went up about 600 but actual price only about 150. Thanks for doing the MSRP comparison.

no worries, I did the list more because a while back I saw a pattern and that I believed they jumped their prices when JJP announced their prices of WOZ.

I will keep the dedicated thread running and updated as becomes a good bit of historical data instead of trying to find it in heaps of different places.

Go to twitch.tv/dead_flip and have a look around. All the streaming he does is getting Stern a lot of good advertising. Stern has been loaning him new games to stream, so this makes sense. Jack is getting a rather large following of his stream.

I follow him a bit and will be watching this. It will be 2+ hours of gameplay, which I suspect you'll agree is better than the standard initial gameplay video we get.

4. The Hobbit is closer to release (?) and Full Throttle is shipping and has a color DMD.

----

To be fair the theme of FTH does nothing for me.

Stern still has the advantage with GOT theme, and with SR as designer but the art and the same old technology and similar fan layout may be a drawback but still has the advantage on price with pro under $5K and shipping soon.

Possibly Stern can hit it out of the park with SM VE as well, if it's significantly better looking (not even sure if there will be a SM VE) but if there is a SM VE Stern could potentially sell 500+ units (depending on price and art especially if the dots are improved as well).

No i don't think so.
The theme only will do.
But for home users the sales will be 30% lower because they expected more fantasy style graphics.
Well thats my opinion.

Looks like Stern raised their prices substantially after Transformers which is right around when WOZ preorders started. Stern then and still is charging JJP prices...but is forgetting to include the same level of features, audio + code level support and tech features.
Hopefully Stern putting an LCD in their games doesn't lead to an additional price increase.

Is it possible for you to post without mentioning JJP?
I understand you're making a point but it's to the level of obsession with all your JJP comparisons.

Quoted from pinballwil:

In this case the theme was the problem, it will not be the factor driving sales!

If they would have themed this exact same pin as something "Medieval Madness 2"-style it would have been much more accepted from the start.
The most hate in this topic comes from the hardcore GoT fans, not from the players focussing on gameplay when seeing a new pin.

My optimistic belief is this game will sell huge on gameplay and even the drama-queens (still can't get over that "drops mic...f%§$ you Stern"-comment in this thread, was that a grown up person writing that???) will be buying it in the long run.
It will only be kind of a flop if it doesn't play well.

Well when a JJP lover (Panzer) posts where a JJP hater (Ballz) can see it, of course it will seem like that. But requesting either of them to not be who they are is just madness. The haters need to accept the love, and the lovers need to accept the hate. Welcome to the world. Pretty much every JJP thread has the opposite side from SilverBallz.

Weirdly GRRM has yet to mention the pin in his blog. Normally there are mentions of PC games etc. Just not that excited about it? Too busy celebrating his Emmys? Maybe is currently writing about it but is 2 years behind schedule? Would have thought it would have cropped up by now.

Anyone else now getting used to the art? They lost my LE order over it but I'll admit it's grown on me in the recent pics

Maybe the excuse is that you can't mass produce pinball machines with the features people here want at the price people want to pay and stay in business.

Quoted from johngravenews:

I was just thinking the same thing. Before the reveal, I was seriously considering selling my labor of love TZ to make money and room. After the reveal, the TZ was safe.

Now the playfield doesn't make me as angry as it did.

If they bump up the art quality with the premium (cab and backglass, I know the playfield is stuck), I might have to consider it again.

#3891 8 years ago

competition is healty for consumers. Problem is Kevin Skid-b, Dutch Pinball and JJP take a lot of time to have a product available if ever. As long we don't have a real competition these are the prices and they will keep increasing.

No bashin just my honest opinion. You need to be reliable to be taken seriously. In today's World nobody is fronting cash for 3 years ahead without having all the details and garanties. That's what always suprised me with pinball. It's like beeing on a list for an exclusive very limited car.

The limited cars come from reliable established companies but beside Stern no company is establish serioulsy yet.

IMO that would have been nice, have a pin called 'Kingdoms' (or something) the rules be battle other kingdoms and rule the land. That way there would not me 300+ gears on the PF, Stern could have used more creative artwork and the game would have been the same only hard core GOT fans would not be as mad that Stern ruined it's theme. Because, this is not really a GOT game, it reminds me of GOT Risk, where you have the names of people and places but the rest of the story doesn't matter

#3895 8 years ago

I really like that speaker panel.

#3896 8 years ago
Quoted from TheFamilyArcade:

Agree, especially the pro of course. I like IM, have the War Machine (dragon kick back). lots of ramps and loops (almost exclusively ramps and loops, why not?). Should be fun and fast just a big swing and a miss on the PF art.

I do like they added the throne in the back area, but almost blocked by the dragon, like they have 2 big toys in the game and they are one in front of the other.

Get rid of the gears and this game is 30% better looking. Gears have nothing to do with fantasy or GOT. They happen to be a motif in the opening credits but other than that, I don't think gears are mentioned one time in the actual book or TV show.

I happen to be growing on the pro, not sure if I'll like the premium upper PF or if the upper PF will be lame (like AcDc) now I like AcDc lower PF but it's not essential to the game (as the rules are kind of just random) not like Tspp where you need to work the upper PF to get multi ball and start the modes.

IMO I could go for another game like IM. However, this game with the RPG rules might not be a fast play, it might be a grind like PotC (which I also like). Anyway well have to see how it turns out.

I see potential in the pro and I see danger in the premium (If the upper PF is not good).

#3897 8 years ago

Like the battering ram toy (like Bart skateboard toy) and I like the sword ball stop mechanism. I'd like to hear how the rules work with the shields. I mean, I guess you battle the other houses, but there is not any specific area of the PF that represents various houses (like in SM you have Goblin area, Sandman area, Doc Oc area etc..) here there is no real areas, more like ST where every shot (that's lit) will score a hit.

#3898 8 years ago

I'm counting 6 shots:

-2 orbits
-2 ramps
-Dragon kickback
-Battering ram

that's even less than IM (7)
-2 ramps
-2 orbits
-Whiplash
-War Machine
-center spinner

So doesn't look like there are any inner loops (I mean inner loop such as Quorra on Tron, Cyclops on XM or Otto in Tspp etc..). I kind of like the inner loop type shots.

Agreed. This will be way better than the short videos Stern has made in the past, and better than the early adopter shaky Youtube video that comes out later. Plus Jack is pretty entertaining. Looking forward to it.
