Its only there to prevent ball traps...that said, that dragon looks sweet! With the flapping wings and rocking it will look awesome!
Quoted from RavenBlackthorn:I was thinking that maybe it would have a "death" effect similar to the crash effect on the Star Trek Vengeance.
Hope it's not too similar to ST as I don't want the same exact mech with a different hat. We'll have to wait and see, looks like Stern is still adding stuff which is interesting.
Quoted from Grinder901:That's what is so confusing to me. If Pinside is such a small sample of their market, Im surprised they listen to any complaints here
Some interesting statistics about feedback: The average business does not hear from 96% of its unhappy customers. For every complaint received, 26 customers actually have the same problem. The average person with a problem tells 9 or 10 people. 13% tell more than 20 about their dissatisfaction. Pinside may be a small subset of their customers, but they are a pretty vocal subset. If Stern understand the statistics behind customer feedback (which I'm sure they do), they know that for every vocalized complaint that they received, there is a large unspoken portion of the audience that feels the same way.
Quoted from rai:Pro is getting more possibility (pending code). But while I like the premium extras not sold on the upper PF yet as it could kill the flow.
Yeah, the upper PF worries me too. It has the potential to be a great "game within the game" given the stuff there appears to shoot for from the pics we have seen so far, but I hope it isn't something you get to with every second shot or something.
Quoted from lowepg:I just have to laugh at some of the photoshop-obsessed here that are suggesting they won't buy a machine because they are unhappy with Stern's use of photoshop style tools..... lol....
I think the issue, at least for me, is that they're wanting me to pay $7k and they're selling something that looks like it was done by an amateur. I shouldn't have any complaints in a $7k game or it's probably not worth my money.
I'd honestly be hard pressed to spend that much even if it was perfect in every way, but really all they've done is make is so that I don't feel like I'm missing anything by skipping out on a NIB purchase.
Edit: Just to clarify, I'm not only complaining about the poor Photoshop effects, but the entire art package, and mainly the PF. As a huge fan of the show, nothing about overall visual incorporation of the theme on the PF makes me want this pin. They came up with gears and chains that have nothing to do with the show and put them all over the place. It looks like crap.

Plus the ability to trap balls on the flippers is another thing I worry about, I know it's a legitimate strategy but most upper flippers like Tron no trap due to the angle or like Tspp or AcDc small flippers.
Quoted from lowepg:It reminds me of my college years (I went to an Engineering-dominated university) where the geeks would complain about the opening sequence in Star Trek.... "if the ship was going faster than the speed of light, one should not be able to see the lights from the front of the ship...." *facepalm*
There are a lot of people on the Spectrum on Pinside. Most of them don't know. That's probably why it looks so familiar.

Except the pro could be nice.
I'm having people offer RBION or BTDK for 4-something and I think a couple hundred more will get me a new pro.
I need to play the game and see the fun and how the rules but less than $5k is still semi decent when compared to $4500 for an older Stern that's not SM or LOTR.
Quoted from winteriscoming:I'd honestly be hard pressed to spend that much even if it was perfect in every way...
Then it sounds like you were really NEVER a buyer in the first place.
At least you're being honest....
Not sure if Im a buyer either.... certainly won't know till I PLAY one myself, not just look at videos, but PLAY it!
Quoted from Jvspin:I don't know, it looks like a toy dragon with flapping wings and a light in its mouth that doesn't interact with the ball at this point. Hard to tell if there is any more movement.
LOL vs a dragon head with a light in it's mouth
Quoted from lowepg:Then it sounds like you were really NEVER a buyer in the first place.

I wouldn't have said NEVER when the theme was officially announced. It might have been a bit of a struggle to justify, but it's well within the realm of possibility that I could save up enough for a NIB. I might have been able to justify it. It's a dream theme for me, after all.
But on visuals alone, I'm ok with saying that I absolutely would not/will not be buying this game. I guess for me to spend that kind of money I'd need all of the following:
-A theme I love - Check!
-Fun game - Who knows at this point? I'm easy to please in this area.
-Good art package - Nope!
-Good theme integration - In some respects that goes back to the art package, but would also include DMD visuals and audio. This aspect fails already for me because of a bad art package, so the rest won't matter to me at this point.
I'll stick to spending $20 on a perfect example of GOT theme integration in the video game by Telltale Games, and I'll sit and wonder why the pin couldn't have been as good.
Quoted from ek77:LOL vs a dragon head with a light in it's mouth
I'm glad you agree!
Quoted from RavenBlackthorn:I was thinking that maybe it would have a "death" effect similar to the crash effect on the Star Trek Vengeance.
I just hope it's more "animated" than AC/DC's band.
i was wondering, will the dragon on top of the mini playfield move the same way, i mean it's pretty damn close to the glass and the back panel. on the pro it's definitely a plus.
nice touch with the ball on the throne.
flow looks crazy.
if it plays great i might be tempted by a pro with a lot of great mods.
There is no right or wrong answer here. Everybody has their own standards and expectations.
As many others have said, the expectation bar gets raised higher as the price keeps going up. Some people don't care.
Plus the fact that when you already have 10 pins to play or multiples in most cases, you can afford to be patient, discriminate and wait for the next one to come out.
Play it first and let the code develop is usually a good general rule to follow anyhow

good points but I wonder what would happen if more and more people start to hang back for better code before buying could cause another issue, as in the past games that are not so popular don't tend to get updated code and therefore not reach their potential.

Quoted from 1967Firebird:Is the pricing on the GoT Pro about 4700 to 4900?
MSRP is $5,995. I have not gone so far as getting a quote on a pro, but I don't think it will be 1,095-1,295 lower than MSRP. If I buy GOT, I'm holding out for a premium anyway.
Quoted from swinks:good points but I wonder what would happen if more and more people start to hang back for better code before buying could cause another issue, as in the past games that are not so popular don't tend to get updated code and therefore not reach their potential.
I'll support a pin like TWD up front because I love the theme and it was Borg and Lyman. I liked the look of the layout and as always, Lyman crushed it.
Not saying other programmers can't get it done but we KNOW Lyman will no matter what. When the day comes that he drops the ball, and I think he has too much pride to allow that to happen, then I'll have to go with option B.
Option B is Keith.
Bringing a layout and theme to life is crucial, and those two guys are the best at it. I guess it's a bet on the jockey.
Quoted from fosaisu:It's the outhouse! The battering ram is just there to keep Tyrion from settling in with a book. Maybe when the door pops open there's a DMD game to shoot Tywin with a cross bow before he gets his pants up.
Haha. I will never be able to look at that mysterious door any other way. Is the "outhouse" GoT's equivalent of the LOTR LE backglass faux pas?

What did TWD cost? Same msrp right? So whatever people paid for that should be the same price for GOT right? Never bought new in box.

Prices have gone up since then. I haven't gotten recent quotes, but I think people have said there have been a couple $200 bumps?
Quoted from Aurich:Prices have gone up since then. I haven't gotten recent quotes, but I think people have said there have been a couple $200 bumps?
Oh so distributors have decided to raise their prices? Gotcha.
Also, is it cheaper to pay in full cash and pickup myself?
Quoted from chuckwurt:Oh so distributors have decided to raise their prices? Gotcha.

the comparison you want is what people are paying for KISS - those are the same prices.
If paying cash, I'm sure the distributor will take notice... 'pickup' unless you mean from Stern's factory will still include some freight charges as it ships from Stern to somewhere. I don't think they allow factory pickup? The distributors normally drop ship from Stern to you... or get several games together to ship to them.. and then you might pay for shipping or setup from your distributor to you.
Quoted from chuckwurt:Oh so distributors have decided to raise their prices?
No, Stern raised prices, distributors followed.
Quoted from Aurich:No, Stern raised prices, distributors followed.
Weird. So leave the MSRP the same, up the price to Distros. interesting.
Quoted from flynnibus:'pickup' unless you mean from Stern's factory
No I meant from the distro, but Makes sense that even if I did that there is gonna be freight costs cause they paid to get it from Stern to them.

That's a great list, Jady. Did you keep track of all the Australian pricing as well? I'd be interested to know the price of TSPP and LOTR over here in the early 2000s compared to pricing now.
So for instance on Mustang Pro, the original MSRP was $5395, but now it's $5,995 (same as all the other Pro models) on Stern's website. I'm curious has the distributor price actually gone up $600 since its release as well, or has it been a smaller increase than that?

I started another dedicated thread a little while back here

as well as here which has some of the recent Aus Pricing at different dates but never went back further, sorry.

I only captured the press release pricing of Stern's MSRP, not updated ones as time moves on as starts to get messy unless you setup a spreadsheet, this list is a good starting point at least instead of guessing and speculation.

Interesting... while ACDC MSRPs were substantially higher than anything else at that time, street prices remained normal for 2012... $4200/5500/6400 or so before shipping. If Stern did another Tron Pro run today, it would have the same MSRP as the LEs originally did
Quoted from kst8cat:I'm curious has the distributor price actually gone up $600 since its release as well, or has it been a smaller increase than that?
Ours up north had jumped like crazy because of the dollar. I bought a Tron Pro NiB, and a Kiss Pro NiB. The difference was almost 3K. The distributor had nothing to do with it, I'm sure they made the same profit off each.
Quoted from Iceman5000:They always make Pros first, then LE's, then premiums.
Not in the case of X-Men.
Last week I heard the new amorphis song Death of a king and had to think about GoT ever since I heard it.
I think I will use this song with pinball browser in the game .

Hell yeah! That song is awesome. Thanks for sharing.
some of the band members need to work on their heavy metal stage presence. lead singer's got it though.
So the MSRP of LE's has gone up $2800.00 since Tron LE was released in May 2011.
Well, at least we are getting a lot more for our money now!

Looks like Stern raised their prices substantially after Transformers which is right around when WOZ preorders started. Stern then and still is charging JJP prices...but is forgetting to include the same level of features, audio + code level support and tech features.
Hopefully Stern putting an LCD in their games doesn't lead to an additional price increase.

Because people have kept paying it.

And with the exception of WWE people are buying up large quantities of Stern pins. As I've said before; Stern is laughing at JJP all the way to the bank.
