Just got this table and LOVE the shot flow, can someone help me understand a few quirks of the table?

1. I seem to be getting A LOT of outlane drains compared to center drains (2 to 1). Was this intentional or am I just better at saving balls from the center.

2. The Strange Disk seems harder to spin when the post is resting on the left side (closer to the upper flipper). In that area its too high to be hit by the second flipper, its protected from the left flipper and when I aim for it with the right flipper I hit the post "dead on" and as such the disk doesn't spin.

Any tips for the second part and confirmation on the first one?

Amy tips with the Soul Gem Quest. I can accumulate 40 flips then burn them all trying to hit the drop targets. I even tried going for the flank attack but someone I can CLEANLY hit the right orbit each time.

Quoted from SgtPin18:

Get the Mind gem prior to soul gem and place it on Vision (drop targets). Then, in soul gem mode, when you get to the drop targets hit the action button and it will spot you the drop shot.

How about when you don't have the mind gem? I tend to fail that quest on the last shot (both times the post covered the target and I drained) Is there a reliable way to hit the drop targets. It feels like that segment is a shot sink as you need at least 2 hits to hit the targets plus and other flips to keep the ball stable and primed on the correct side. I've just had 3 soul gem quest where I got into the shot with 40+ flips and lose them ALL

The more I play AIQ the more I see I'm in a very "weird" position. For the first time I have a table where I can hit everyone shot with 70% accuracy AND I know the rules and strategy. However despite this, I only can finish with 40 million a game. I don't wanna say I'm "cursed" but I get weird things like I would "thud" the disk multiple times a ball or how a ball with bounce off my flipper, hit the sling then drain. I'm before I used to hit standups and drain but now I don't, I hit the shots I want and don't kill myself from a bad shot, yet my score or my gem count has not budged.

Quoted from beltking:

Do 5 or 6 balls instead of 3 and get deeper into it then set it back down after you learn.

So a weird thing. I tried this with another table and I performed as well with 5/6 balls as I did with 3. Turtles I couldn't do more than 2 modes, I then boosted the ball count to 5/6 and STILL couldn't get past 2 modes. Notoriously my output is the same regardless of ball count. Previously with Mandalorian I also had a 2 mission limit.

Out of curiosity Avengers I can't start more than two modes and when i bumped the ball count to 5/6 I STILL can't get past 2 modes

#9455 2 years ago
Quoted from EaglePin:

Maybe try this: start out by earning a portal lock by hitting a few combos. Then spin the disc and select Reality Gem. That will give you a two-ball start to the mode. While ball save is going start bashing Thor to start MB. Then spin the disc to light all shots and go to town hitting any and all shots while spinning the disc once in awhile. That alone can get you 40M.
Edit: hadn’t read the post above from awesome1 before replying. Great minds think alike!

Great suggestion here's where it gets weird. I'm getting better at completing modes but before I start the next one I'll drain. The tips above are great with beating them but usually right after I get the final blow I drain

#9457 2 years ago

Either that or its only at that moment does the disk just NOT want to move and your ball just bounces off of it multiple times.

Any extra mindgem tips outside of "shoot the flashing lane" and "get multiball if needed"?

I have been steadily practicing for over 2 weeks with about 15 to 40 attempts a day and after all my practicing I have completed the quest a total of 4 times.

I also tried taking a break to see if that would make me shoot better and after my mini hiatus i had over 5 games where I drained before the ball even touched my bottom flippers.

In terms of hitting the shots I can hit almost anything within 2 attempts but struggle hitting the post in certain positions. In fact I've had a game where I've "thudded" the post over five times. I can beat strange and hulk regularly but mind gem just keeps eluding me no matter how much I do (or don't) practice

Quoted from vikingerik:

Mind Gem is tough, since you lose control shooting the disc so much. And you can't have the Mind Gem placed anywhere to help!
The best tip is to pay attention to the stud and don't force a shot that's likely to thud. Don't shoot it near the 11-12 or 5-6 o'clock positions - don't assume you can hit it off-axis from its center to get it moving, only shoot at angles where any contact will make it move. If the stud isn't nearly perpendicular to the angle from the lower flipper, shoot the Gauntlet ramp instead and use the upper flipper for the disc.
Also practice basic skills to gain control for rebounds from the disc area - dead pass, slap save, drop or live catches. Also tweaking the machine setup can help you catch - steeper slope, low-bounce flipper rubbers, and increasing the slingshot power for them to kick the ball higher instead of towards the outlanes.

5-6 oclock is the worst position for me as I find it in perfect "thud" position while also being too far up to hit with the upper flipper. Can you actually hit it from the upper flipper

Looking at my games there is a very frustrating trend I'm having (besides not being able to get the mind gem) and that's if I get a gem then I will drain twice before being able to start the next mode.

I've looked at my patterns so far and if i fail the first quest then I can easily start the 2nd and third gems no problem. HOWEVER if I get a gem in the I WILL drain twice before starting the next gem. Doesn't matter if its reality, power or mind I will drain twice. My latest game my first quest was even the soul gem (2nd ball) and after getting it I drained twice again.

Uhhhh...I have no idea why this is happening. Its VERY consistent

EDIT

I just did another game and had an amazing 1st ball and got the mind gem and triggered the soul gem quest before draining. Then I drained twice before starting the soul gem quest

Quoted from hiker2099:

I had the same struggles. Someone on here told me I should set my game to 5-ball. I am against this because I'm very competitive but he was right. It is the only game I set to 5-ball and as my kids and I get better at the game, we are going to reduce it until we get back to 3-ball.

I struggle with this as 5 ball made it worse for me. I had turtles before and had a "2 mode curse" as in every game I could only get 2 modes no matter the combination of winning or lose. I bumped up the game to 5 ball and I STILL could only do 2 modes.

Meanwhile I've diagnosed the situations I have a bad time in and am looking for answers.

1. Slingshot Hell - long story short I'll be in scenarios where the slingshots are hit 5+ times before my ball touches the flippers. It will cycle through the slings then launch into the orbit or hit thor ball then come back to the sling and rebound again through a combination of slings and drop targets before draining. I've tried bumping but have no idea if I'm bumping correctly or causing more drains

2. "High speed flipper bounces" I can't describe it but essentially the ball will come at the flipper at a high velocity away from the sling (as such I can't catch it to hit the corner) and the ball bounces off the flipper and into the sling causing me to enter slinghshot hell. Drop catching doesn't work as the ball doesn't "roll" up the lane and even with the flipper up it will bounce up into the sling.

My biggest weakness is recover shots from the right ramp/starting mission position. If I use the upper flipper I miss the ramp and the ball goes wild and I just pray I don't drain. I've tried using the lower flippers but the ball just bounces upward into the sling and I drain.

After being fed up with going only 2 modes a game in turtles then bumping the ball count to 5 and STILL only getting 2 modes a game I went to Avengers. Here I also only get 2 modes a game no matter my pass fail and out of frustration I bumped the ball count to 5. I can safely report even at 5 I only get 2 modes a game.

I've heard of consistent results but this is a whole new level.

Quoted from AiriusTorpora:

Git gud.
Kidding aside, how much time have you practiced battle royale ? .. that helped me quite a bit trying to reduce my time and improve my score on battle royale mode.

OMG I just discovered it thanks! But back to my "strangely consistent" behavior I can start chaining shots but then if i drain I will drain 2/3 in a row (as in just INSTANT) drains before i can get my rhythm again. It's happened over multiple games

#9769 1 year ago

So a weird side effect is happening. After reporting on how I can only get 2 modes a game I took up the board suggestion of doing Battle Royal to get better. After playing it enough times where I can actually win the mode I went back to my regular game with 5 balls. After all this practice I can only score 30 million which is significantly worse than what i was scoring before training Battle Royal mode.

It's gotta be a mental block but I have no idea whats causing it

#9840 1 year ago

The better I'm getting at Battle Royal the worse im getting at the regular game. Even with 5 balls I can't crack 50 million.

#9879 1 year ago

I have been trying for over a month and still cant reliably hit the middle loop does anyone have any tips?

The problem I'm having is that because of depth I can't visually see where I'm hitting so shots that hit the hawkeye target, shots hitting the post above the hawkeye target and shots hitting the post to the right of the ramp look visually identical to me
