Quoted from AiriusTorpora:

Nice game room area, excellent dimensions for pins, but get yourself some carpet slider footies. Once they settle into the foam you can slide the machine around much better like you would expect on a hard floor and it stays more level overall on the carpet still.

Get these! All the other carpet sliders are ugly big plates. These are a perfect fit for my pins. My local Ace Hardware has carried them for years. I feel lucky to have stumbled across them and replace the larger eye sore carpet sliders. Sorry for the crappy pic, I had to search my photo library to find this one pic from a few years ago.

The Original Magic Sliders #04600 60mm (I think).

Buy the Concave Sliding Discs version

Quoted from adrock:

SirMachismo are those definitely the size in the leg pictures? Just asking because 2 3/8” is much bigger than a pinball foot but it could be referring to the outer diameter of the disc. It doesn’t specify inner or outer diameter on the sliding disc site. Thanks !

I am stopping by to Ace today because it’s Sunday…so I will shoot a current pick of the sliders packaging. Meanwhile here are these. I was skeptical when I bought my first pair, but the look so much cleaner than the plate size ones.

Welcome! But, more important, what a view out that window!

Now I am a little embarrassed…the view can be yours if you are willing to make a trip to Home Depot. I do live in Colorado and can see the mountains from my home, but nothing this spectacular. Oh, you should see my office, I think I have a babbling brook in that window well.

Hi,
I have an issue with the Spinner disc not registering. It seems more common that I thought. I only have 25 games on a NIB machine.
The disc stopped working in the middle of a game. It did not register in the diag menu so I lifted the playfield. The plastic part covering the pcb was damaged by the magnet spinning. The magnet was apparently rubbing on the pcb.
The led on the pcb blinks 3 times. That seems to indicate an error from what I read. Anyone had a similar issue ? Can someone confirm that the leds blinks steadily when the board is working fine ?
Thanks
Marc

This has been happening with portals that didn’t get their Jam Nut tightened properly at Stern, you will need to contact your distro (or a distro) to get a replacement ordered from Stern. It should be pretty easy, serial number, name, address, and that’s about it. Sadly there is no home fix for it. If the locking Jam Nut lets the rod slip down low enough to make contact with the sensor the sensor will fail very quickly. There is a key post with the service bulletin on how to level the portal and gap the rod to the sensor. Let me find the post and I will edit this post and add the link. I used post-it-notes at 1/16 thickness to gap mine. Make sure you level the portal and get the Jam nut real tight when you swap the board out.

I finally got motivated to install the Comet Pinball LED strips and spotlights on my AIQ. A green strip under the drop targets, red and blue behind the ramps, and a purple one at the Ant-Man scoop. With a razor knife I score and snap Lexan from a 12” x 24” sheet I purchased at Home Depot. Then I warm them in the toaster oven so I can shape them. Using the cool white frosted GI bulbs and some Matrix extension wires to connect everything together and she is lit to my liking.

I was planning to do the exact same thing with the 2 spotlights on the slings (The center area is really dark). Do they block the view too much or it's fine? Also, I can't see well on the pics but did you use a rubber on the hex post?

I am not bothered by what they block. Here is a good representation of how they look from a player’s pov. I used blue zip ties to keep the wires clean.

Quoted from mannymasy:

It seems that I already have the rotating disk leveled but I still have many flies in the air in this area that I marked in the photo of the colleague, where it happens the most is in the two central posts..... does it happen to you the same?
[quoted image]

Based on the silver marking on the top outside rim of the portal it looks like your portal may be slightly lower or the outside is slightly higher. This would cause the ball to be slightly airborne when it hits the post causing air balls. You could try tightening the outside portion (four screws). If you do decide to loosen the Jam nut and raise the portal make sure to really tighten the jam nut. If it touches the sensor under the portal rod it will ruin it quickly.

Also what Angle do you have your playfield set to?

This is is required reading:

Quoted from Maniac227:

I've never gotten air balls from the posts, but i have gotten them from the Sanctum target back there.
If your sanctum target is causing air balls, like mine was, i would advise installing the anti-airball wedges this pinsider is selling:
https://pinside.com/pinball/market/shops/1377-pinball-haven/05733-anti-airball-target-bracket-wedge

Same here. I just installed the same wedges, but have not had enough plays to see if installing one wedge is enough.

Quoted from mannymasy:

I have no problem with the sanctorum target....I already tilted it a bit and there are no balls in the air on this target....my problem is with the two center posts

Not sure that any of this helps, but I have blue Titan silicone flipper rubbers, Titan Stern Slim Tapered silicone on those posts, my playfield angle is 6.57 (at the flippers) and lastly my flipper strengths are at 255. Only the sanctorum target seems to give me me airball issues (may be fixed). Good luck chasing your cause down. I would suggest, if you have a phone that can record in slow-mo, getting someone to record for you while you try to recreated your airball issue. Seeing it in slow motion could provide additional insight.

Example: I just corrected my SDTM issue with all non-flips at the upper flipper when feed from the banana ramp. Adjusting the upper flipper to the pictured position solved my issue. The upper flipper was originally centered on the dimple. Recording the SDTM non flip issue demonstrated that adjusting the third flipper slightly might help. I moved the flipper to the picture position and now all non-flips hit my right flipper and the Stark Tower and Hulk shot are still just as hittable as before. Linked is the video with slo-mo after the fix.

Sorry, I was referring to the titan blue rubbers of the posts and flippers

Sorry my bad…Here you go:

The competition standard silicone flipper rings are the way to go as well, but if you are paying for overseas shipping I would buy the full set for AIQ and and then some extras. I love the glow in the dark on my Godzilla, South Park, Last Action Hero. You can view game kits people have built and modify them to your liking. Their pinballs are also in most of my games.

Quoted from johnstewart:

My girlfriend has an AIQ Premium she got ~9 months ago NIB.
It looks like the Dr. Strange spinner disc lock nut came off, so the whole thing fell below the playfield by a little bit. I opened it up last night, and was able to put the lock nut back on and adjust the spinner to be level with the playfield.
However, it looks like the post rubbed against the sensor (I can see the rubber covering on it is ripped a little), and it's not recognizing when the disc spins now. When doing the "Strange Disc Test", I'm getting nothing at all, even with the sensor right next to the post.
I'm guessing this sensor board is toast? There's nothing I can do to repair it myself, right?
There's someplace to order these from Stern? I can only imagine this would not be covered by warranty, this long after purchase.

Stern didn’t even care that I was the second owner. Stern just needed a distro to place the order for me. It was free. Fortunately I have two distros that I worked with in the past. All it took was an email with the details to a distributed and they made it happen.

Here is an earlier post of mine:

Joining on with our new pin!
[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]

Welcome to the club!

Quoted from awesome1:

I've been able to do it a few times myself, but not from a cradle or from a ball rolling down the flipper... essentially a ball coming towards the right flipper from the right and you get a solid backhand shot on it at just the right angle. More luck than anything I would say.

Well crap I don’t get off work for an hour. I want to go home now and spend the next few hours trying to backhand the Captains Marvel ramp.

My lady friend, “Did you feed the dogs?”

SirMachismo, “Not yet, I am working on hitting this ramp!”
{SirMachismo’s internal monologue}
Maybe, it’s not level left to right…is my angle too steep. Do I suck at this? I may not eat tonight either, I need another drink.

It didn’t happen tonight…but I found myself enjoying the attempts. This pin is just fun to shoot.

#11221 1 year ago

Got it! All it took was me miss handling a flip pass and getting just the tip of the left flipper on the ball and then blinking. Honestly it happened so fast I missed it and I wasn’t sure which flipper I hit the ramp shot with when it happened.

Maybe day three will bring a repeatability to the shot.

#11225 1 year ago

I just don’t think I can pull it off with stock flippers from a cradle…I have had several clean shots and they just don’t have the mustard. I even checked my EOS to ensure it is not gapping too soon.

#11229 1 year ago

To totally forgot about giving the playfield a fresh wax…I will give it one last try tomorrow for completion sake. Fresh balls were installed about a month ago. The Captain Marvel ramp from the left flipper is fast and so delightful to hit.
In reality I am just having fun developing my ball control skills while chasing what appears to be a shot that I can’t make from a right flipper cradle or right inlane. I have made the Captain Marvel shot a few times now from a left to right flipper dead bounce and it is a fun addition to my shot quiver. I am now using the same technique to backhand loop the heat ray shot in Godzilla it feels really satisfying. Happy holidays everyone.

Quoted from TroyS:

Sounds like you are learning the same shots, we should meet up and play a few games!

Hell yeah.

#11237 1 year ago

Final day:
Spoiler, I was not able to pull off the Captain Marvel shot from a right flipper cradle or right inlane. Fresh wax and switching to Titan Low Bounce rings could not get me over the hump. However, I think I am in love with the low bounce flippers on my AIQ (at least the lower flippers). They really seem to give me a little more control on this pin.

Hello guys. Unfortunately, this is another auto plunger post. I’ve been having my machine since early 2021. It has about 4200 plays on it. I’ve never really had a problem with the auto plunger. In fact, it had about a 90 to 95% success rate. I am now noticing that the auto launch is much weaker. Yes, it doesn’t make it up the ramp. In fact, it’s now barely making it around to the pops. It seems very “soft” sounding. I have some video to show you. I picked up the play field and had a bunch of black dust on the shaker motor cover. Everything mechanically around the coil seems OK. Do I have a coil going out? Is that what the black dust is? I appreciate everyone’s input on this. Thanks.

In the slow-mo footage it looks like you have a rattle pretty quick out the gate. If your auto plunger forks are making even contact with the ball and your pin is level left to right…Then I would also look here to see if you can find the cause. That first rattle causes several other rattles further up the lane which will rob your plunge of power. The coil sleeve suggestion also is a good call.

So my topper purple gem is out virtually the entire game. But it works in test mode and sometimes I’ll see it flash, like during end of ball sequences and such. Anyone have an idea why this might be?

The Purple Gem on your topper is most likely working as intended. The gem lights are only lit up during game play for the gems you have collected. This is a progressive mode and is saved game after game like Black Knight 2000 spelling R-A-N-S-O-M or Alpine Climb and the climber advancing up the mountain. Once you collect all the gems your machine will start the Gem Mania mode (or a randomly named mode but is still Gem Mania mode rules). This used to be a topper only feature but is now included with Insider Connected machines. So if you want to see the mode go for the Purple Gem. The mode should start as soon as you collect the gem. Once the more over all the gems on your topper will be unlit again unlit you collect them again. Currently I need to collect the Soul Gem to start Gem Mania.

Backhand Capt Marvel ramp (from cradle) success.
I agree with the idea that backhanding the captain Marvel ramp was probably not intended. As I posted before, this is a difficult shot, and in my experience, only with precision flippers. This is not to sell precision flippers, but to show how they can help with poor flipper performance.
My son heard about this and was really curious. He made the shot after about four attempts. He also made it about five other times so it is repeatable for some players.
Cheers!

Nicely done!

Quoted from marcd:

I was the one who sent the link for the part to cam24175 and was able to repair my magnet sensor board. As long as the led is blinking, the board should be fine. The only thing to worry about is the traces because the part was torn out of the board. The part number was given to me by Stern so it's a direct replacement.
I noticed that when the disc shaft touches the sensor chip, the value indicated in the diagnostic menu is over a thousand. Whenever I boot the machine, I now check quickly if the value is whitin limits (<500-600). It saved my ass once. I asked Stern to add a Technician Alert when at boot this value is over a 1000. Never heard back though.

Thanks for the part number guys. I may order a few chips and try to fix my broken one (light still blinks). My soldering hand isn't as steady as it once was. I asked Stern to put in some code to allow the portal spins to be relocated to a spinner (or anywhere) in the event of a sensor failure. I love this pin so much i just played to practice shots while it was down, since no progression could be made. Thankfully Stern did send a replacement quickly.

#11314 1 year ago
Quoted from vikingerik:

You actually can make progression anyway, if the portal can still physically open. Get two portal locks by shooting combos and lock them. If you then light another portal lock, it shortcuts past spelling Strange and will open the portal to start the quest.
Granted, the rest of the game won't be much fun without the disc (you can't win the Mind or Reality gem quests, and progressing towards Iron Man MB is a pain if the disc can't cycle the outlane lights), but playing most of it is still possible.

I have never tried this, but I makes sense. Thank you!

Picked up a Premium a week ago. Love the shots on this pin!
Unfortunately my spinning disc stopped registering hits.
Any ideas? I checked the connections to the sensor.

Give these posts a read. Basically The Jam nut for the portal was too loose and allowed the portal's spinning rod to touch the sensor causing it to fail.

Where should a return coming down from the right orbit (black panther) land? Working on a machine that feeds SDTM. The ball is changing course on the second post this side of the guide rail on the way down (circled), hitting the rubber ring on that post, pushing from a return to the right flipper to a SDTM trajectory.
Do we put a smaller ring on that post and let it feed to the right flipper or do we bend/adjust the guide rail to send to left?
[quoted image]

Here is a quick video I just uploaded. The High res version is probably still processing. My angle between the flippers is 6.67° level left to right. I do prep for nudging the machine on any shot that rolls back from the Black Panther shot. Typically a nudge will keep the ball in play. Hope this helps.

so no one has an extra lying around? Stern told me they don't sell individual plastic set and i need to buy a full set from a distro... thanks!

Depending on the break I have used IPS Weld-On 3 to fix some broken clear pinball plastics, a hairline crack in a ramp, and cracks in snowmobile windshields. I have not had to use it on printed pinball plastics but a little goes a long way. If you do decide to go the repair route removing both pieces of the plastic is a must. Here is a video I watched years ago when I first started using it:

Check to make the shooter rod is striking the ball dead center, you may only have to shift the playfield a touch to the left or right when it is down, if that isn't enough you can remove the two red screws on the inside of the shooter plate, loosen the three (silver) shooter plate screws and adjust the shooter rod/plate up/down/left/right (pictures are your friend before starting). I also suggest recording your plunge in slow-mo. it will help you see how the ball is getting struck and if the ball is rattling too much as it heads up the shooter lane. All of those rattles kill the balls energy. It could also be that your game is not level left to right (or even too steep)...dialing in a pin is an art. I think I spent a week of tweaking my Avengers to play the way I thought it should when it first came in, and I haven't touched it since. All the machines are hand made so there is no one size fits all setup.
Hope this helps,
Lb

Does anyone make a nice set of plastic protectors for AIQ? I've searched a bit and don't see anything offhand.

Ulek makes them in light blue:

So I got my AIQ Pro yesterday. Put in a couple dozen [quick] games on it so far and it seems to be working well. The ruleset is thicc but I’ve got the basics down (spin disc > right ramp > win gem > place gem > repeat).
However, this game is an outlane side-drain MONSTER. Even with the pins moved to the ‘easy’ position and a 6.9° slope, the slings and basic playfield rebounds side drain waaaay too often. I’m not a great nudger and I worry that this is just gonna discourage me from playing it, like TMNT did.

Nudging is your friend…I mean every time it touches a sling. I also suggest playing with the sling power. Try going up and down, every pin is hand assembled and its own creature play with it to see what make it more fun. Welcome to the club! I love this pin.

So our new AIQ Pro is an airball MONSTER. I get 1-2 airballs per game that fly all over the cabinet. Today's game-ender wedged itself between two wireforms during Thor MB and blocked the leftmost ramp. I had to remove the glass.
Any tips?

Check to make sure you spinning disc is level with the playfield. If it is too high or too low it will create ball hops. If the disc is the culprit slow down and check with this forum before loosing the jam nut and adjusting it. There are pdfs here that helped me. if you over tighten the jam nut you can crack the nylon nut. If you don’t get it tight enough the disc will eventually slip and ruin the board/sensor that reads the spins. I know…that jam nut is a goldilocks. My jam nut was too loose from the factory and stern replaced the sensor for me, and my game was down for two week while they shipped a new one. Lastly I got 3D printed shims and put two under the Sanctum Target (leaning it forward a bit) and that solve some of my air balls.

Quoted from Pinball-Ike:

I practiced the beautiful combo of Widow, Side Ramp, Hawkeye Loop, Hulk, until it became a natural dance. It feels great to hit, it’s smooth to execute, and it CRUSHES Space Gem by finishing in the pops. It’s become an easier gem battle and obvious single ball choice for me.

I love this…time to start practicing.

I got a shim for the Sanctum Target but cannot figure out for the life of me how to install it. I have a Premium and it looks very difficult to get to where I need. Am I mistaken - was it easy to install this or did you have to remove a ton of stuff around the disc to get to it.
My airballs are insane and usually go from Sanctum target all the way to the shooter lane or behind the flippers. I have been avoiding playing my game because of this to avoid damage.

I was able to reach the target and install the two shims without taking anything else apart. It is very clumsy, but after dropping the shims a lot I got it. I used two shims. I hope the pics help.
