I'm in MI and have gone to Expo and PinCinatti and really enjoyed them. I'm wondering if I want to make the trip to go to TPF this year. What are people's thoughts? Is it worth it? Is it too crowded? Can the experience still be good missing out on the Embassy rooms and having to stay somewhere else close?

    #12 4 years ago

This is a great show. I’ve attended the last three years. There are five other hotels within a half mile. There’s a pinball swap meet. Food trucks all weekend, seminars by industry leaders, every major mod manufacturer and 200+ pins on freeplay. You need to come to this show

I stayed about 3 miles away last time, that's the way I prefer it.

There are so many hotels within walking distance from Embassy suites. They just opened up 2 more within the last year

I’ve stayed an the Hyatt across the street, it’s a five minute walk. Given the Embassy rooms are at the other end of the building from the exhibition hall it’s probably the same distance to get from room to TPF. I’ve also stayed at an Air BnB a short drive away for about $30/night and that was ok for the price.
If you love pinball you’ll love the show. Vendors of all kinds, pins on free play, fellow pinheads, seminars, likely a swap meet, top players competing in the Stern Pro Circuit event, Multimorphic pins available.
Come to the show and volunteer for a couple hours, it offers yet another perspective on the hobby. Every show can use more people who want to help others have fun.

Just booked my room and bought my tickets - my first TPF and I can’t wait!

Rooms - staying at the hotel is nice but any 1 of the others within walking distance is fine and wont hinder your fun.

Crowded - if this is a concern then you may be like me. I've been the past 8 years. This is the first I'm not going as it has gotten uncomfortable crowded for me. There are normally games open if you look for them but walking around can be a chore. Most modern games will have lines 4+ people deep.

If you haven't been I'd consider it for sure. It's just gotten to big for me. But it growing so much is a hood thing for the hobby.

For the pinsiders that go, do ya'll wear little Pinside badges, so you can recognize each other?

I've been sent there three times by Chicago Gaming. So I wore a TPF lanyard with my name on it. LTG : )

I think JJ from Game Exhange usually makes some. He’ll ask for a list of pinsiders when TPF gets close.

When and where should we pinsiders meet up? I’d say not too early, as some of us cannot even leave for Frisco until after school Friday, but not during any cool events... maybe drinks and cigars Friday night?

Here’s a question. Anyone ever driven and parked a travel trailer or RV in the mall parking lot overnight? Just a thought

Something I am considering since I don’t live close to the show anymore.

We have an agreement with the minor league baseball team literally right next door and they grant us use of their giant parking lot for the big trucks, trailers, and RVs if you want to park there. It's only about a block or two walk to the Embassy. Not sure what the mall would say. I would imagine the worst they would do is ask you to move (in which case you could just drive over to the baseball lot).

I used to park my truck and 24' enclosed trailer by the jewelry store at the mall, and then at the baseball diamond last year. No problem with either place from me.

Great, Thank you kindly for your response. Cant wait for another year. Though Ed.....I think you have outgrown the Convention center. Maybe I could help make some calls and string something together for a bigger place next year? Jerry World?

Happy we have this great event for all to enjoy and share the passion.

TPF number 6 is coming for myself and group of ATL friends. Here is my sexy self playing a sweet Centaur years ago. The gal who took my pic for the paper asked me where I was from and when I said Atlanta she was shocked and asked “You came all the way from Atlanta to come to this Pinball show?!”. I didn’t pause for a second and said “Oh hell yeah!”. Lol. Such good times! Thanks to all who organize and bring games!
