Opened mine last night, thanks santa!

Very cool, especially sitting on the pin. Love the Kingpin avatar.

I got home from work last night, and on the kitchen table was a box that wasn't addressed to my wife and didn't say Amazon Prime on the side. Will try to hold off until Christmas before I open it. Thanks SS ,looks like it arrived safely.

... 10 minutes later. So it occurred to me, the chinchillas, what if there were some poor live chinchillas in the package material. Better to open it, just in case.
I was correct.. sort of. There were chinchillas ,only not live ones, just poorly rendered origami ones. Nice touch SS ,thanks for keeping this year's theme going. Will try to hold off until Christmas before I open it.

If those are Genuine Origami Boulders, they are ...like...worth some serious money.

Because I don't think that guy is in business anymore.

Well....it's wood....and you don't want it to fall down on you....

... 10 minutes later. Okay, I caved. I thought I'll just remove the gift wrapping and not open the package. More surprises. It clearly says pumpkin on the box but penciled-in above that is the word not. Cryptic! One thing I do know, is that everything that exists in this universe, is either a pumpkin, or not a pumpkin. I feel like I'm no closer to knowing what's inside than when I started. I will try to hold off until Christmas before opening the package.

    #413 3 years ago

You cant open it ever now, itll just diminish in value. It could be a pumpkin or it could be anything! Heck it could even be a pumpkin! But you open it, it can only be one thing.... oh the dilemma.

Ps hope its not the cat

... 10 minutes later. Another clue, after closer inspection I found the words," a glass pumpkin came in this box" penciled in. And I didn't even know pumpkins had orgasms. Little more hesitant about opening the package now. Will try to wait until Christmas.

I have never seen someone just take the wrapping paper off a present and stop at the box, this to me is hysterical.

    #417 3 years ago

A red herring, its a glass pumpkin.

I'm afraid I have to respectfully disagree. The way I do the math, 3 10 minute intervals equals 30 minutes., even in metric time (which I believe is what they use in Canada.) Also, I'm in total agreement with you in that I know I won't make it to the end of the day much less till Christmas before I open this box.

    Return address from Sleepy Hollow?

It was believed the headless horseman in the Legend of Sleepy Hollow was a Hessian soldier who lost his head in the American Revolutionary War. He rode carrying a pumpkin in search of his head.

So your Secret Santa gift could be one or the other.

Seems like we circled back to Schrodinger's squash.

well we knew this was inevitable, I caved. Honestly, I've spent the last half-hour gazing into this. I received an exquisitely handcrafted, 2 in blown glass marble from my SS. As impressive as this seems in the photos, they just don't do it justice. The combination of materials and techniques in this piece are truly out-of-this-world. That pun was intended. I've been a glass blower for 25 years and can truly appreciate the craftsmanship that went into this piece. This one will end up in my studio as I can see it being a source of inspiration for my work for many years to come. Thank you SS, you really knocked it out of the park!

Amazing pieces..! They look like a snapshot of the universe..! Wow! Congrats SS!
..just realized it ties in with your Space Shuttle and the fact you're a glass blower!

    Quoted from Saltimbanco:

Wow is right. It's actually a single piece. The back side is done to look like a cratered moon and when you turn it around you're invited into that snapshot of the universe. The deeper you look into this piece and the more you turn it and move it the more it exposes you to that universe. I'll post some better images on the glass-blowing and pinball thread later today. Did I mention I absolutely love this piece.

Schrodinger stated that if you put a squash and something that could kill it into a box and seal it. You wouldn't know if the squash was dead or not until you opened it.

I'm just finishing....been busy with it all day!

    #447 3 years ago

Been being good all day. Heck, I wanted to open it at 12:01 a.m.

Figured I need to wait through part of day or temptations will overwhelm me....but it will be quite soon

WOW! As someone who has taken a few classes, but wasn't even able to make the marble round, let alone that detailed, I'm in awe! Here was my sad attempt - although it is fun and I keep it on my desk. Bonus points because it can't roll away!

Wow impressive color. And it's not that it's not round it's just spherically challenged. I still knock out some that kind of roll like Grandpa when he's leaving the Polish home.

I was a scientific glassblower earlier in life. My work was with GE; lighting was my gig for years. Here is one of my more rudimentary creations.

Not nearly good enough for a Pinside Secret Santa gift!
