The Penguins announced today that a player has recovered from COVID-19, but I haven't seen anything where they announced that a player has just tested positive. Link?

*Announced* Thursday, not diagnosed Thursday. It has not been reported when he was diagnosed. Note that neither of those articles references a source other than the Penguins' official statement from today.

Official Penguins statement says he is "recovered" not "recovering." The second article you linked says also uses "recovered." The use of "recovering" in the first article appears to be a misquote of the Penguins' statement as they reference no other source.

Penguins Player Tests Positive for COVID-19 Virus
The Pittsburgh Penguins were advised today that a player tested positive for the COVID-19 virus. The player is not in Pittsburgh and has been in isolation at his home since first experiencing symptoms. He is recovered and feeling well. Those in close contact with the player leading up to his diagnosis have been notified.
