Quoted from MrBally:

The Chocktaw Tribe finds dice unlucky.

What IS lucky is being able to have completely autonomy over their games and machines without government oversight or any real legal recourse for visitors. Must be pretty sweet to have a game malfunction right before a win is verified. Seriously though, WinStar is capable of the same crap. I'd advise people visiting these places to be particularly careful to not catch the eye of their tribal police or security guards...you really don't want to be arrested on tribal lands. Reading up on all that after having gone up there a few times and cashed out a few slips that were left lying around (Literally. I did not swipe them from someone present, and we did look around.) or promotional credits left on games kinda freaked me the hell out. Safe to say I will NOT be picking up any more random payout slips regardless of how much they say they are worth, because it ain't worth getting arrested on their property...

Quoted from Pinball-is-great:

I was not aware of any of this, as I rarely go to casinos to gamble, so thank you for sharing this with us Frax. Did they just explain their rules/laws and threaten to arrest or fine you, or did they actually fine you or arrest you? I understand if you prefer not to go into all this here.

Oh thank christ no... I was never 'apprehended' for my 'crimes' lol. I mean honestly...if someone had watched me pick it up, and went "Oh, that's mine!" I would've just handed it over. The first one was like 27 bucks, the second one was like 130. Definitely NOT enough to get arrested over!

Nah, I didn't know ANYTHING about that until my wife and I got talking after that second one. I felt REALLY skeevy (well, until we went to the parking lot and found the drunk guy PISSING ON OUR TIRE..then I was just furious) about it, so I did a lot of research into the subject. You'll find everything from "it's a grey area" to "Tons of people do this in casinos and rarely get caught".

Personally, I'd rather not chance getting caught for chump change, and the risk of getting caught for NOT chump change is.....substantially higher. They can track those things back to customer cards, tie it to security cameras, etc! It's all quite creepy as hell if you ask me.

Quoted from labnip:

yeah, that'd be very cool. they'd need some other room/space to put them in. it was packed to the gills this year (like 470ish) games & more people than ever.

Nope. Keep the fumes out of the hall, thanks. >_<

Quoted from labnip:

then no more bean dip on the manager's happy hour buffet

Oh man, did they really do that again this year?

From comments I saw on our local facebook page (Which I'm sure you probably saw too), apparently there was a lot of 'outgassing' at the show this year...really can't argue them removing the beans..or maybe Deeproot could sponsor some free Beano to put beside it!?

Quoted from Mk1Mod0:

I crop dusted all over the floor this year. Except in front of the prewar booth. I was afraid I'd hurt a game with that stuff...

At least I was outside when I talked to you.

Quoted from TexasJustice:

That pizza is just ten inches long, and my brother got a side salad, and I had a coke. It was 29.50 before tax and tip, so basically 40 bucks, or 20 each for that.

This is everything about Dallas/Addison/Frisco/Richardson dining at this point. Too many snooty, hippie, overpriced pieces of crap like that...and they get away with it is the part that kills me. Meanwhile, there's hidden gems like Village Burger Bar where you can get a great burger for 7 bucks (Yeah, see...you SAY WTF 7 for a BURGER is ludicrous? I have to cut the thing in half and it's still a glorious mess because it's too big unless you squash it down and s--t goes ERRRRRYWHERE) that makes that look like a joke. Like seriously, a "Dougie" with a fried egg, bacon, tomato, lettuce, basil mayo, and sub their bourbon onions for the regular ones is great...orrrrr...you can actually slap a marinated portobello mushroom cap on there instead of the beef, and it's a buck LESS. Yeah, like seriously, some place that ISN'T overcharging for a vegetarian option AND it's actually good enough that I'll eat it? The truffle fries and the sweet potato fries, and lemon aioli they come with is amazeballs. Yeah.

I seriously want to put out a "Best Hole-in-the-Wall Guide" before the show next year, because I see posts like this and just want to smash heads in. It's not ALL about freakin' BBQ or overpriced crap, but ya gotta venture out and around a bit. It might be fun to scout out the area around the hotel. Who wants to kickstarter that? I volunteer to eat all the crap food so you don't have to...just not on my dime.

I somehow ended up with the days off for TPF, but cancelled my room weeks ago. Shite.

Now I gotta decide if it's worth it for me to drive 40 miles every day to go and catch a few hours of sleep, and without the alcohol, and paying for full price tickets... ehhhhhhhh

probably not.

Quoted from HighVoltage:

What happened? I could use this, Thursday night might be the time to check one of these places out. I may have to go scan last year's thread.

I'm a moron, that's what happened. I totally forgot about that. I'll talk to my wife and her friend tonight and see if we can't come up with a list, but it might vary about the Plano, Dallas, Richardson, Garland area!

La Hacienda Ranch - Ew. IMO. But I haven't been there in like 10 years, literally, so maybe it's different now. (SKWilson beat me to it...I'd trust his opinion over mine given how long it's been for me..)

Legacy Hall -Holy crap the s--t is hitting the fan in this place. They've lost a LOT of shops in there in the last year. I'd be wary going there just based off memories, because who knows what places are still open there.... The occupants are NOT happy with the situation there, and the alcohol situation (the building handles all of the alcohol sales) is just janky.

Thai place.... Thai Soon in Richardson is where I usually go, but it's also REALLY close to my house, and as such, a good ways away from TPF... 15 miles? Also Bistro B in Garland, but that's even further out.....but on the upside, if you're here wed/thurs and looking for a place in the LITERAL MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT, they're open *super* late!

Quoted from LateCenturyMods:

How about a state park? Dinosaur Valley and Possum Kingdom are each about 3 hours away.

Man that's a long drive.....but for anyone that plays Ingress, my wife set up all the Ingress/Pokemon portals inside Dinosaur Valley years ago. Those were all her submissions to Niantic!
