Quoted from NPO:

Bypassing this one this year. We plan to come to Pinburgh 2019 (just to play, not to compete).

Scratch that. Just talked with the future Mrs. She wants to go again, and she has already reserved a room at the Hyatt across the street!!

See you March 2019 : )!

How busy is this show? Do you have to wait long to play the good newer games? I’ve heard some comments about lines of people 10 deep. Is this true?

Nah, only for alien was it ever that deep. One or two deep for most games.

That’s good to read. Have people been ok with staying at Hyatt Place? Easy to still sneak in for the Embassy Cocktail hours? Haha

Price alert - looks like some pretty good airline deals right now. I adjusted my Southwest flights to lock in the better prices (which for Southwest means I have credit $$$ now for future use). Quick check on Kayak from DC showed a bunch of nonstop options for $310 round trip and one (built around spirit air...) for $279.

On new games, yes. in 2016, lines were very long for TBL and GB.

Lines were huge last year for Alice Cooper, but by limiting each game to one ball, they moved fast.

99% of games are available or 1-2 people in front of you.

@callaway15 , we stayed .. just one night at the Hyatt Place, before we had to leave early for an unplanned funeral. (Literally got the call about 5 minutes after we picked up our TPF tickets in the lobby!).

Hyatt Place was clean, comfortable, conveniently located, and the service was great. They immediately let us out of our room early. It was actually something like 3-4p, and they didn’t make us pay for that night. They were *way* more accommodating than I’d expect. Can’t speak enough of their people.

In terms of facilities - there’s no restaurant in the hotel, nor a bar. Just a tiny typical market. Food options are nearby. Perry’s is known for pork chops; we had their steaks instead and they were pretty awesome. And this is walking distance to both hotels.

#158 5 years ago

I’m getting my pic taken with the Munsters and or the car for sure. I got direct flights out of BDL to DFW and back.... man I hate layovers !

Sounds like a good option! Thanks for the reply

Just booked at the Hyatt Place. jfesler is wise and all knowing...

Are there any Pinside meet and greets planned for TPF?

Not that anyone wants to meet me

However, if you do see me on the show floor and say "Hey Bublehead!" loud enough that I can hear you, I will definitely stop and chat. I'm going deaf in my right ear so keep that in mind

#162 5 years ago

Just got cheap air to Dallas on Wednesday before the show, & fly back from Austin April 3. Was like around $400 US, $510 CDN. Only 1 stop each way. Looking to hitch a ride to Austin (South Side - 2705 Willow St) on Sunday anytime.

JJ from GEX tends to do one at a local restaurant really close by TPF's location.

Doesn't labnip drive from the Austin area? I kinda remember he came in some big gas-guzzling rental truck last year.

Also, Megabus has frequent departures to Austin from Dallas for under $50. https://us.megabus.com/journey-planner/journeys?days=1&concessionCount=0&departureDate=2019-03-24&destinationId=320&inboundOtherDisabilityCount=0&inboundPcaCount=0&inboundWheelchairSeated=0&nusCount=0&originId=317&otherDisabilityCount=0&pcaCount=0&totalPassengers=1&wheelchairSeated=0

Two months to go, tickets and hotel are booked.
Looking forward to see the show and meet pinsiders.

#166 5 years ago

This will be my first TPF in a while not bringing a game (so far, I think...). Feels weird. But I will be bringing Mike from the PinChurch, so that's a win.

We've got a room at the Drury nearby but please let me know if you have a double queen reservation at the Embassy that might come up for grabs...

My wife decided today wants to go to TPF for the first time after hearing about my experiences. Her only previous shows have been in Denver so I think she’s in for a pleasant surprise

#171 5 years ago

We are coming in a day early and looking for a nice local place for dinner. Were going to go to Perry’s but realized we had one here in Denver.

Can anyone recommend a good steak or BBQ or other local non-chain place for dinner, preferably within reasonable walking distance of the Embassy?

Been there before on a solo trip. I’ll be with my wife this time and would like to stay alive so I can come back to TPF in future years.

Embassy will shuttle you (or short Uber) to Legacy East or Legacy West in Plano. Try Bobs, Capital Grill Del Friscos or Fleming’s.

#176 5 years ago

We really enjoyed our steaks at Perry's last year. Heading back there again this year.

#177 5 years ago

This will be my first year going to TPF. I have a 3 day pass (they were so cheap!). I will try to go all 3 days, at least 2 of them. I work on Friday, so we will see.
I am trying to rally up some friends to go, but I am taking my wife and kids one of the days.

I am not sure what I will take. Maybe a couple of projects and some parts for the swap meet.
I definitely will be looking to pick up some items

#178 5 years ago

Brisket to die for

Get there early before they sell out.

Both are a schlep but worth it, so worth it.

For a treat, visit Bob's Steak & Chophouse.

Faincy. Spendy. Outstanding.

So me and a couple of my mates are making the trip from Australia. Have organised the Munsters VIP tix with @extendo.
Everything's booked, so any recommendations on what to do locally would be awesome.
We arrive Wednesday arvo and leave Monday night so basically have 2 days spare outside TPF.
Sounds like hardeightbbq & Wild Pitch are must do's

Welcome to TX! A lot to do in this area. Dallas Cowboys training facility along with many restaurants in that area. There is an area in Plano (5 mins south of the Embassy Suites) called Legacy East and Legacy West. Both have a lot of restaurants, bars, and clubs. Check out Legacy Hall for a local musical venue with several smaller restaurants and many bars.
IFly: simulate skydiving
TopGolf: outdoor, multiple level driving
range ‘game’ with food/drink service.
LaHacienda Ranch: great Mexican food just down Preston Road.
I prefer Hutchins over Hard8. Not the same ‘experience’, but much better BBQ!

Tell me what you like to do and I can lead you in the right direction; I’ve lived in the area for a long time.

Awesome thanks for all that, what about amusement rides in and around the location that we are staying.
We wont be eating for a week just so that we can eat all the ribbs lol : )

Six Flags: https://www.sixflags.com/overtexas Looks like they are open 10a- 8p during your visit. Lots of great rides. If you go during the week, there won't be many crowds!

You two will be easy to spot in your newly acquired Cowboy wear!

Best bet for all the 'Cowboy' action is in Fort Worth:

Western Stores:

http://www.fincherswhitefront.com/cart/catalog/
https://www.maverickwesternwear.com/

For the bull:
https://billybobstexas.com/

If you go to Billy Bobs, eat at Coopers Pit BBQ across the street.

And if you do a full day in downtown Ft Worth and want some great Mexican with a twist: https://joetgarcias.com/. Enchiladas and Fajitas only (no menus). Cash only.

I can bring a Potc Collector's Edition. Free shipping to the show if you allow it to be used as a show game. I may have a limited or a standard edition available too, but they are selling out quickly.

I have a couple of Dialed In Limited Editions that I can do shipping and maybe a little more on if interested.

There will also be specials on Attack from Mars Remake (classic and special), Monster Bash Remake (classic and special), I have a couple of TNA that i can deliver to the show for free. Show specials on Houdini also.

Let me know

Quoted from NeilMcRae:

I am buying WHEN you see me... but I am hard to miss at 6’4” (or 1.9M for my European friends) tall and 39 and two sevenths stone. I miss drinking in the UK, spent 4 years off and on in Dunoon, Scotland back in the 80’s and drank a lot of sweet black and tans, Tennents Lager, and hard cider. Hit me up WHEN you see me, not IF

Make sure to stop by the History of Pinball booth and drop off offerings of your regional and foreign beer!
I will have a large selection of craft beers that we can share (outside of the show of course) wink wink nudge nudge.
