Quoted from MrBally:

The Chocktaw Tribe finds dice unlucky.

What IS lucky is being able to have completely autonomy over their games and machines without government oversight or any real legal recourse for visitors. Must be pretty sweet to have a game malfunction right before a win is verified. Seriously though, WinStar is capable of the same crap. I'd advise people visiting these places to be particularly careful to not catch the eye of their tribal police or security guards...you really don't want to be arrested on tribal lands. Reading up on all that after having gone up there a few times and cashed out a few slips that were left lying around (Literally. I did not swipe them from someone present, and we did look around.) or promotional credits left on games kinda freaked me the hell out. Safe to say I will NOT be picking up any more random payout slips regardless of how much they say they are worth, because it ain't worth getting arrested on their property...

Correct, "Finders keepers" is not valid in any casino.
MsBally actually sat on a jury once regarding this subject at a Detroit casino. The person whose money that dropped out of their pocket at a bar and eventually had it taken off of the floor came back from North Carolina for the Trial. The accused was from The D.

I was not aware of any of this, as I rarely go to casinos to gamble, so thank you for sharing this with us Frax. Did they just explain their rules/laws and threaten to arrest or fine you, or did they actually fine you or arrest you? I understand if you prefer not to go into all this here.

Oh thank christ no... I was never 'apprehended' for my 'crimes' lol. I mean honestly...if someone had watched me pick it up, and went "Oh, that's mine!" I would've just handed it over. The first one was like 27 bucks, the second one was like 130. Definitely NOT enough to get arrested over!

Nah, I didn't know ANYTHING about that until my wife and I got talking after that second one. I felt REALLY skeevy (well, until we went to the parking lot and found the drunk guy PISSING ON OUR TIRE..then I was just furious) about it, so I did a lot of research into the subject. You'll find everything from "it's a grey area" to "Tons of people do this in casinos and rarely get caught".

Personally, I'd rather not chance getting caught for chump change, and the risk of getting caught for NOT chump change is.....substantially higher. They can track those things back to customer cards, tie it to security cameras, etc! It's all quite creepy as hell if you ask me.

360 days until TPF 2019
ready to blast into the future

Quoted from JNX:

Oh...and as far as this thread goes, maybe the new dates won't be on the back end of Spring Break and the drive home will be better, not that it is any fault of TPF, but that was brutal getting back to H-town on Sunday.

It is at the end of Spring Break again next year. That works out pretty well for us, as the kids are out of school so we can go up there early on Friday. As a bonus, we get to miss 3 days of SxSW madness. The journey back was rough on I-35 as well. Will the construction around Salado/Temple/etc. ever end?

Seeing that got me wondering. I wonder if Ed would be up for a Pin/Car show.

- A mustang with a mustang pin
- A Viper with a Viper pin
- A Corvette with a Corvette pin
- Delorean with BTTF
- etc

Might be kind of cool and merge two of my favorite hobbies. The building is probably to small though but if this happens and someone has a Mustang, Viper or Corvette pin and not the car I would gladly offer to bring the matching car for the pin.

yeah, that'd be very cool. they'd need some other room/space to put them in. it was packed to the gills this year (like 470ish) games & more people than ever.

Oh man, did they really do that again this year?

From comments I saw on our local facebook page (Which I'm sure you probably saw too), apparently there was a lot of 'outgassing' at the show this year...really can't argue them removing the beans..or maybe Deeproot could sponsor some free Beano to put beside it!?

we knew it was going to be baaaaaaaaad that night...
and oh man... it got painful breathing in a few areas in the ballroom.

I crop dusted all over the floor this year. Except in front of the prewar booth. I was afraid I'd hurt a game with that stuff...

You at least have the code that Dead Flip had at TPF right? Code on that game is getting good. I considered it a dud game but after the latest code I'm really starting to like it a lot.

Bought a TPF pintglass at this year's 2018 show.

Ran it through the dishwasher.

Everything inside and out came off the glass.

Might want to revisit the substance of the decal/ printing.

2018 best show ever!

2019 request

Burrito food truck - it was there in 2017 and was amazing.

Food trucks didn’t seem to be as good in 2018.

The sub truck was missing this year. At least on Friday night anyway, which sucks as I think there the best truck in DFW. I did try a pastrami hot dog for 8 bucks. Meh. I then went to 7-11 to buy a lottery ticket and also bought a quarter pound big bite with nacho cheese sauce for 2 bucks. It was just as good as the eight dollar hot dog.

Here is a picture of a meal me and my brother tried at a nearby place called Mash'd before we left Frisco on Sunday after the show. That pizza is just ten inches long, and my brother got a side salad, and I had a coke. It was 29.50 before tax and tip, so basically 40 bucks, or 20 each for that. I was forced to chew slowly to draw it out and then went home and had a sandwich. Smh

Inch for inch, probably the most expensive pizza I have ever had. Clearly we thought it was going to be much bigger. In fact we almost invited a third person to join us to eat it. Lol

Needless to say, I would not recommend the place.

This is everything about Dallas/Addison/Frisco/Richardson dining at this point. Too many snooty, hippie, overpriced pieces of crap like that...and they get away with it is the part that kills me. Meanwhile, there's hidden gems like Village Burger Bar where you can get a great burger for 7 bucks (Yeah, see...you SAY WTF 7 for a BURGER is ludicrous? I have to cut the thing in half and it's still a glorious mess because it's too big unless you squash it down and s--t goes ERRRRRYWHERE) that makes that look like a joke. Like seriously, a "Dougie" with a fried egg, bacon, tomato, lettuce, basil mayo, and sub their bourbon onions for the regular ones is great...orrrrr...you can actually slap a marinated portobello mushroom cap on there instead of the beef, and it's a buck LESS. Yeah, like seriously, some place that ISN'T overcharging for a vegetarian option AND it's actually good enough that I'll eat it? The truffle fries and the sweet potato fries, and lemon aioli they come with is amazeballs. Yeah.

I seriously want to put out a "Best Hole-in-the-Wall Guide" before the show next year, because I see posts like this and just want to smash heads in. It's not ALL about freakin' BBQ or overpriced crap, but ya gotta venture out and around a bit. It might be fun to scout out the area around the hotel. Who wants to kickstarter that? I volunteer to eat all the crap food so you don't have to...just not on my dime.

Good grief that pizza even looks disgusting. For that price you would think they would at least work on the presentation a bit. I'm with Frax on this as well as Austin is getting just as bad.

I only go every other year. Is there a TPF 2020 thread I can start following/posting to?

#78 1 year ago

Best money spent off property is at Norma's Cafe just across the street and a half mile up. Home cooking and huge pie at reasonable prices.

Cheap printing. They should have got the dishwasher safe screen printing.

Hey Ed, yell at me for next year's show for promotional item's. I will hook you up brother.

Quoted from Whysnow:

When are room blocks becoming available?

The block of rooms at the Embassy are now available . I just booked my room for Thursday thru Sunday. Same rate as this year at $150 per night plus tax.

They won't last long! Just go to the Texas Pinball Festival web site and click on the Embassy Suites link and it will take you to the page with the Texas Pinball rates.

#84 1 year ago

Room booked! I look forward to this show all year long. I can't wait.

#85 1 year ago

Room booked here too. One night paid upfront as deposit, same as before...

Same thing happened to me. I figured I tilted the dishwasher and forfeited the pint glass graphics.

#89 1 year ago

Booked. Are they really out of king beds already? These go quickly!

Also, looks like it’s fully refundable up to 72 hours before the show this year? But $10 extra per day for parking?

#90 1 year ago

I can't get the site to take any reservations for TPF days.. already booked out?

#91 1 year ago

I am interested in Hyatt House once room block becomes available for that.

#92 1 year ago

Hard to believe it's sold out already, but the Embassy Suites site is showing no availability for the weekend. Hopefully they'll open another block soon

#93 1 year ago

Wow last year I was able to book a room at the TPF rate way later than this... amazing to me that the block is already gone! Surely they will make more rooms available????

One would think.

I tried booking for 2019 at the show but their computer wouldnt book that far in advance.

Other than that, what is the next closest hotel if I dont get a car?

The Hilton Garden Inn is supposed to be very close and walkable. There's a promo code link on the TPF website:

The "sold out" day one happened last year as well. I think more blocks will be released daily for the rest of the week.

Worst case, who's up for a Pinside AirBnB Mansion rental?
