EDIT: Great minds think alike...
pinball news has the Stern tour, and coverage from each day:
https://www.pinballnews.com/site/2019/10/17/pinball-expo-2019-2/
Quoted from flynnibus:someone needs to find the mysterious stern PF printing/clearing operation while on the tour...
I did. I was told they make the play fields in house then send them out for art and clear coat then brought back to the factory for install.
Quoted from flynnibus:So no one had interesting sightings from their stern tour?
black knight topper. pretty cool actually. the head moves around and cool flames .nothimg more intresting
oh also saw playfield preview section the rack and back boards labeled "Jaws" was told in meant jurassic park???? But labeled Jaws J.A.W.S. take that for it worth
Quoted from cavalier88z24:the wall of microwaves cracks me up everytime[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]
It always amazes me that they have that huge of an amp draw in one place and got service there. That wall of microwaves has to be drawing 180-240amps if all of them are running. That's a LOT, and doesn't even cover the fridges...
Quoted from Pinless:How does this expo compare to TPF? Similar size?
For number of games? Maybe half.
Quoted from Leeb18509:For number of games? Maybe half.
Wow, I assumed the Chicago expo would be the largest given the proximity to the manufacturers.
Hi guys! Glad to be here at expo, if anybody wants to grab a beer tomorrow (Friday) and chat about the future of pinball I'd love to. I'm not new to pinball by any means but I recently found myself in the pinball industry career-wise and I love to hear input and ideas from fellow pinheads.
Quoted from DS_Nadine:Oh, well we at least have this bit of prohibited filming:
That’s an awesome topper. Finally one that isn’t just flat or redundantly says the name of the machine. Never understood toppers but these new ones from stern and CGC are making me change my mind!
Quoted from DS_Nadine:Oh, well we at least have this bit of prohibited filming:
Very cool looking!
That almost makes me want a Black Knight SoR.

I have some nitpicks after my initial excitement (why 2 castles, wich btw. consist mostly of the gate; the helmet looks plasticy and the shoulders are flat plastics and not molded) but alltogether it's still way impressive and a lot of work synching all his movements to every line of speech.
I really want a BKSoR and even more so now,... just some more essential things to pay for then pinball right now sadly. XD
Quoted from Tuna_Delight:Very cool looking!

I'm all for these great interactive toppers, but its getting to the point where you have to ask why put all this amazing interactivity, movement, voice etc into a topper and not on the playfield?
Quoted from DS_Nadine:Oh, well we at least have this bit of prohibited filming:
What I don’t understand is why stern can’t do toppers like this all the time AND release them with the game. I feel like this and Star Wars both would have sold well at release and now have lost steam and they will never release them. Lots of lost dollars.....

Well with Star Wars I think it really was a licensing issue and now with some rekindled interrest, due to the reskin, it may regain financial viability.
With Black Knight... well it is a lot of work to synch the topper to the speech, ESPECIALLY when the code is still changing?
Plus this is a side business with way more custom parts that have to be build in small charges, so it's kinda hard/ expensive to get them manufactured quickly?
In addition it makes sense to set manufacturing run numbers according to sales of the main game.
Many variables in that.

Stern gives code names for their games. Guardians of the Galaxy was Furry Hats; Jurassic Park was JAWS.

I'm really happy Todd recovered and is back and enthusiastic as ever.
Is anyone coming back through Ohio on their way home from Expo and wanting to make some cash to haul some games back?
Quoted from homebrood:Decided to go Friday and stay Friday night. I live pretty close but got a room anyway. I like having a quit place to take breaks and not have to worry about driving home late, if I indulge in a couple or three beers. There are still rooms at the discount rate! I was surprised they are still available. The block was sold out before a couple times I think, but they must have opened up new block recently. See ya'll there!
and what was the discount rate?
Quoted from ccbiggsoo7:and what was the discount rate?
I think its 140. Plus a 400 chicago hotel tax
Quoted from PaulCoff:Is Kingpin going to be there and will there be a seminar regarding the Kingpin remake progress?
no seminar. but look what i found.
20191017_222341 (resized).jpgDid anything of note get said at the 6:30PM American Pinball presentation? I haven't seen a thread on it and no stream I could find...

no, not really. Mostly covered Oktoberfest Art and software updates/changes in the production model. At the end discussed moving into their larger factory. No announcements of next pin. Will be releasing some code updates (both Oktoberfest and Houdini) soon.

Thanks for bringing awareness to this via your question! Been a ghosttown for info.

Thank you so much for the info! Hoped to see a reveal, and checked madly at 7:30EST on their Facebook page, twitter, and feeds for Expo, Pinball life, etc on Twitch, and nada. Glad I didn't miss a big announcement, but hope a video shows up later!
Thanks again!
My vendor booth. Very impressive show; really glad I’m here.
