Quoted from Jackontherocks:

Fantasy hockey league I am in makes me watch so much more especially when the Pens my team in last, how?

It’s early....penguins always hit their stride during the month of February. No worries for this Pens fan!

#138 5 years ago

Pens are in trouble

2 months later
#241 5 years ago
Quoted from meSz:

Man I hope so as if they aren't it will be another early exit!

Pens are walking a fine line right now...they look so dang deep on paper, that they almost have to make a deal. 8 deep on defense with Schulz about to return. Riikola looks like real deal. Brassard has caused havoc with line juggling to get him going. Great seeing Murray healthy and playing well. Seems like every team that they have been running up against are hot as heck. Looking forward, March schedule looks brutal! Whoever emerges from the East for the finals would have to be favorites in Stanley Cup.

#246 5 years ago
Quoted from meSz:

Letang is one of the best offensive defense-men in the league but one of the worse defensive defense-man. He has turned over the puck over so many times it's brutal.

I can't stand Pierre McGuire. That is all...

Hagelin to the Capitals

#328 5 years ago
Quoted from ImNotNorm:

Looks like all the visiting teams won their games tonight.
I don't think I've ever seen that on HNIC in my lifetime.

Pens didn’t win....

#331 5 years ago
Quoted from Malenko:

It was a better game than I thought it'd be. Football venues definitely work better than the baseball stadiums for the outdoor hockey games.

It sucked. Simmonds runs dumo’s head through the glass into the first row and no penalty.

#335 5 years ago
Quoted from JeffF:

Looked like bad timing to me. His head was just at the right distance from the glass that it bounced. If he was further or closer I don't think he'd have been as hurt as he was.
I thought the game was pretty darn great. It was physical and both teams played pretty well. And while I'm a Philly fan... I know they got lucky even getting one point.

Simmonds raised up off his feet and followed through with his shoulder and elbow driving his head into the boards. On a defenseless player. Cheap mofo....typical Philly crap.

Now it's Sergio? And hes in the press box? Poor Sergio Boobtitsky gets no respect, lol

What was Tortella thinking?

#411 5 years ago

Carolina might have the toughest remaining schedule....

#416 5 years ago

Tortalini has been looking sharp with the sweater-under-sport-coat look, though.

Letang blows

Quoted from hwyhed:

Talking bout losing a step, how’s Gudbranson working out in Pittsburgh? Good character guy, but just didn’t work here in Vancouver..

Gudbranson has played well. He muscled Tom Wilson and drove his head into the ice last night. LOVED IT!!! I’d rather have him than Letang.

Rust didn’t get back on the tying goal. Sometimes I wonder the choices Sully makes putting guys on the ice. He babies Kessel. When Kessel took that penalty recently while pens on power play, he should have been demoted to scecond unit as put a hot guy like McCann out there in his spot. Watch the crazy shit show that starts happening when Letang gets his wild and loose ways back out there

Awww, come on!!!!???? Have you no faith in a fully healthy, experienced and hungry Penguins team? Maybe you should stay in Cali, hipster! Haha!

#511 5 years ago
Quoted from meSz:

LOL nah always a fan but also not delusional. Pens lack on Defense (defensively) big time. LeTank (horrible defensively) and Maata (just so slow) are great offensively but lack on D. Pens need to score 4+ goals a game to win and they just are doing it.
Also, look at the last month or so and see the teams the pens lost too... Rangers, Wings, Sabres, Canes .... all teams below them in the standings. On paper Pens have a great team.... on the ice they’re average.
Just my 2 cents (5 cents Canadian ) early exit this year I would think you have to shake things up and trade off some of the older vets like Kessel, LeTank or even Malkin.

You may forget that they also stopped Bruins long winning streak, beat the capitals and stopped their winning streak, schooled Montreal on hockey night in america when the playoff race was super tight, took care of Columbus and Carolina when both team’s seasons were on the line in those games. They beat Nashville (division winner) and Dallas on the road, with both teams in the playoffs.

Add in all the injuries that they have had to navigate through, i am feeling like the penguins are deep and prepared, and mentally strong going into 7 game series play. They don’t have home ice? Who cares! The fans give them no advantage at home and all of their key special teams stats are better on the road.

I think the pens could pull off another cup....but it’s gonna be very very tough.

Quoted from cdnpinbacon:

2nd round
Preds in 6
Tampa in 6
Nash 6
Calgary 6
3rd round
Cal In 7
Tb in 6
Final
Tampa Bay in 6 games

How did 3 western teams win in round 2? Or is the first preds supposed to be Pens?

#519 5 years ago
Quoted from meSz:

Yeah but don't forget the Bruins played without two key players that game and lost a D-man in the game.

Agree they beat the Caps but as for Montreal....can't be too excited beating a team that's below you in the standings!

Pens beat Bruins without Rust, Letang, Riikola, and Ruhwedel...sonthey had more key players out.

As for Montreal below them in standings...gotta beat the teams below you. And that habs team was just starting to come into their own with strong playoff push, playing at home on Saturday night on hockey night in Canada. Pens win on the biggest stage of the week.

The best money to bet is 18-1 on the Penguins....they might be a coin toss to win any series with the way this season has gone, but $150 to win $2700 looks pretty nice return

Letang played somewhat decent tonight...pens just can’t seem to click. Too predictable with their scheme. Trotz knows their number after all these years. At least the pens can look back at this season and reflect on all the milestones players hit. Future looks somewhat brighter than 6 months ago with the guys they brought in.

#549 5 years ago

On a side note:
I am not a fan of listing home teams first. Soccer does it, and now hockey going that direction. The arena scoreboards have home team listed first and visitors second. The NHL app has the playoff tab with “islanders vs Penguins”. It’s just plain wrong. We have officially crossed over into the Bizarro World.

#568 5 years ago
Quoted from meSz:

Yeah, you look at their Top 3 Defensemen and you're looking at LeTank, Maata and Dumoulin. LeTank and Maata REALLY struggle on Defense. Both are very good offensively but struggle (being kind) on D. Dumoulin is probably their best Defensive Defensemen and he has struggled. Penguins appear to have the mentality that they have the offensive power to outscore teams and they just arent doing it!

Letang, kessel, and Hornqvist need to move along. Pens played more composed on both ends of the ice when Letang was our injured.

I find it interesting that Sullivan has turned into the NHL’s version of Beyonce....no one dares to say a bad word about him. I get it...pens have had lots of injuries this year. And trades shook things up, and personnel had to adjust. But when two of your top three stars (Malkin and kessel) on offense are constantly shuffled around with different line combinations, how can there be any consistency, period?

The pens system has the forwards grinding hard down low and defense pinching in to support that. Which leaves open the counter attack and odd man rushes.

They either need to win 4 in a row and make history, or lose and let me get in with my life. Haha!

How about don’t give up 4 goals in 5 minutes.....no matter what the reason is that got you to that point in the first place. Teams kill off major penalties all the time without giving up one goal, let alone 4. Vegas choked. They aren’t victims here.

I want that sign Dave..one day I'll travel for a Pitt game and take that sign off you..mabey peel away one of your pins while I'm at it!

Lol....I’ve been searching for one of those signs for a few years. Got super lucky and found one with a team puck on it in Dallas. First time I’ve seen that. And the red doesn’t show up too well in that pic, either. Neons are not the most photogenic. I am doing a modification to that sign.... Stay tuned for updated pics. In the meantime, here are some pics of my other Bud Light NHL memorabilia from my old Bubble Boys playing days....

Quoted from rollitover:

Can anybody explain the NYI's?!?!
Totally "on" opening series and completely
"What are we doin' here?"
the next.
How?

Easy to explain....Mike Sullivan’s transformation into Dan Bylsma and pushing his star players into grinders along the boards......Seeing who’s left in the playoffs with pens bounced in 4 straight makes me sick to my stomach!

Quoted from Jackontherocks:

No you want the Bud Ice one that’s says beware of the Penguins

Do you have a pic of that one?

I was secretly hoping for Marchand and Zuccarello to meet in the finals.

Kessel traded to Yotes, not sure how I feel about being a Pens fan and fan of Yotes.

Now if they can only trade Letang.....

OTL: the longer teams look like they can make the playoffs, the better the attendance as season winds down. Makes for great playoff possibility talk on sports talk in the last month of the season. It’s about keeping fan interest as long as possible. Especially in all these warm weather cities the NHL plays in now.
