Quoted from TigerLaw:

Are the event rooms secured? What's the rate?

Does the rate really matter? Event rooms are secured and being booked quickly.

Book it now. Like today. Like within the next hour.

Quoted from Beyndtstng:

The show closes pretty early on Sunday and all the flights back were pricey so we are leaving Monday. Can anyone recommend a good place to play Sunday afternoon and evening? Looking for good quality pins with a nice variety.

Nickelrama Arcade - 1238 Beltline Rd, Garland, TX 75040

www.nickelrama.com

They have 13 pinball machines:
JJP Hobbit & Wizard Of Oz
Stern ACDC, Avengers, Game Of Thrones, Ghostbusters, Iron Man, Kiss, Metallica, Mustang, Star Trek, Walking Dead & Wrestlemania

Come see us at the History of Pinball Booth at TPF.
--Jeff

Pinside three!

Pinside booth will return as well. This time, with a nice row of Bally zipper flippers!

Quoted from Beyndtstng:

Big history fan so I have been to the Dallas area a few times for Dealey plaza and the stockyards. How about best strip steak close to the event? Tried Bob's Chop house a few years ago.

Define close.

If you have time, I recommend a trip to the Fort Worth Stockyards. Enjoy a great steak at your choice of locations.
Personally, if you like to try some more exotic meats, give Lonesome Dove Fort Worth some considerations. http://lonesomedovefortworth.com/

Closer to the Embassy Suites, there is a Perry's steak house across from the hotel. For a good steak at a cheaper price, there is Texas Land & Cattle on Preston.

If you want some Brazilian Steakhouse fare, there is one in front of the Stonebriar Mall.

Thanks for all the tips!
Meat for allllllllllllll
Widening the horizon, any more recommendations around the whole of Texas? We will be hitting most of the main areas on the 3 week trip ...
rd

If you get a chance, take a drive west of DFW and check out Mary's Cafe in Strawn, TX.

The best chicken fried steak in all of Texas IMO.

https://www.yelp.com/biz/marys-cafe-strawn

But take your appetite because you will get plenty of chicken fried steak!

The doubleThe double

Quoted from Silverballer:

Here is a question - how does the toll highway system deal with out of state drivers? When I attended TPF two years ago I cruised right down the Dallas North Tollway all the way to the hotel but on the way out I took the outer road. I half expected something to show up in the mail but it never did. My luck I have a warrant out. Seriously though, I would like to be educated this time around. Anyone local care to explain how it works? I suppose I could google it. Nah, too lazy.

Texas Tollways will typically mail a bill to the address on record for the license plate number.

So you got lucky last time. Maybe the camera failed to pick up all the numbers on your plate or something.

Quoted from Frax:

Don't worry..Marcus knows what I'm good at and does a pretty good job of ensuring I can't possibly get 1st by including games with arcane rules that nobody knows.
That is definitely one thing about TPF versus other big tournaments... you're not going to see a lineup of just the standard DMD tournament games, like...EVER.

Haha. Guilty.

Well, this year you can thank Ken and Colin as they will be working together again to include games with arcane rules that prevent you from winning first.

And doing a fantastic job at the same time.

Quoted from rotordave:

So true!
Xerico, one question ... with 150 entrants, why only 16 finalists and not 32?
32 would bring more points, and it wouldn't take that much longer to run a 32-17 one round knockout.
rd

I am not running the TPF Tournament, so I do not have an answer for your question.

pinballrebel Snailman are running the event. I'll pass along your question to them.

Quoted from oohlou:

I am going to bring a game for the first time this year but I'm not sure which game I will bring. Can I / should I register now and possibly change the game later or should I wait until I'm sure which game I will bring? Is it easy to change? How much does it matter?

Yes. Register now. Choose the games you intend to bring.

If they change before TPF, just let the organizers know.

Most important thing is to get registered so that you get your perks for bringing a game.

Quoted from foureyedcharlie:

Really want to buy a Fireball 2 while I'm in Texas....let me know if you have one....also, I noticed there is one on Dallas Craigslist if anyone wants to help a guy out.

CL ad must have been a deal. I cannot find it.

I'll ask around and see if there are any available for sale in our local group.

Marcus

#607 7 years ago
Quoted from OpSteel:

I still see the ad. Only the one picture and says it will not turn on. Probably just a fuse

I see it now. $500 for a Fireball II is not bad. Spend $300 in boards, and you have a nice working FB II for $800. Not bad at all.

Quoted from chadderack:

... Finally started playing better at the end and had a decent score on both Dr. Dude and "Hack a Stack" (can't remember the name... a green and yellow card-playing EM).

The EM was Gottlieb Hit The Deck.

Quoted from Ed_in_Texas:

Give us a few days to recover. We'll get the website updated with a show recap, winners, etc.

Next year, I plan to schedule vacations days so that I can recover from my TPF vacation.

I'm guessing an extra 3 days should do it.

Quoted from Titan_Pinball:

Anyone want to claim this? I reset it and only set free play before it left for the show. 594 plays!

Eric Fisher. Amazing Player.

Quoted from Titan_Pinball:

Awesome score. No one ruled the universe though! Is this your handiwork Marcus? Pink foam? Lol

I would be proud to claim that idea, but sadly I did not come up with it. The previous owner sold it to me with the Pink Foam.
