Aside from being able to thumbs up and thumbs down posts, would it be possible to add an "off topic" button? Many threads get sidetracked with all manner of stuff that has nothing to do with the topic. The idea of this is that I could enable a "hide off topic posts" in my preferences, then all posts that are flagged say 10+ times as "off topic" get hidden from my view. That would make it much easier to browse threads as they seem to often get side tracked.

Great idea. It would also be nice to be able to circumvent, hide, or drain all off topic items in a given forum.

I agree that could be a useful feature.

Hopefully robin will find the time to implement it.

Hopefully, it won't be implemented. It will become "the people's choice" moderation.

Let the professional moderators do this stuff. That's what they get paid to do.

I disagree, I think it could be like the basement posts. Each user could have an option to turn them on/off, so it wouldn’t affect you if you want to read everything. Moderation should be left for breaking rules like insulting hateful posts. I think this could be like the opposite if having “key posts”; with them you only see the most important posts. Why not allow users to skip over some of the less desirable posts? It would make skimming back through old threads easier, and some of those hateful posts might even get hidden making Pinside a more enjoyable place.

    I like the idea.

    That would be great!

This might also be a good tool for the pro moderators - with the right search functionality, they'd have data by which they could see (and perhaps give a word to?) those posters with the greatest proclivity for dragging topics off into the weeds.
