I remember cooking them for a girlfriend 25 years ago, we were staying at my mates place and he walked in from bed and said "why are you eating the bait?'

I say that about calamari. Your garfish filets present well. I’d try that!

Google provided that pic, but we did it very similar.
I eat stacks of squid. I do lots of chunks but i do the little arrow squid trawler trash too, grilled with olive oil and garlic and pepper on the weber.
Couldn't find a bait squid pic, but this is one of mine.
Quoted from Jamesays:Scores
[quoted image][quoted image]
For the top/left: good tartar sauce coverage with only minor spillage, perfect steamed bun, centered cheese, filet only slightly off center, and good onion coverage. 9.6
For the bottom/right: good tartar sauce coverage with a bit of spillage, light wrinkling of the steamed bun, centered cheese, filet is moderately off center, and lopsided onion dispersion. 8.7
I hope they both taste as good as they look!

As previously noted, the onion 'slivers' are a bit on the gargantuan side.
That being said, I would devour those in an instant. Well done....very well done sir.
Small Town FOF Meal $7.78
Bun - Presentable
Tarter - Pretty fair coverage
Cheese - Perfectly placed under a well placed Filet - had to lift the Filet to make sure they didn't forget it

Quoted from ultimategameroom:I’ve been lurking in this thread for a while now and I’m going to try a filet-o-fish tomorrow. I vaguely remember having one as a child back in the late 70’s-early 80’s. I’ll report back.
Ok it took me 18 days but I was on the move around lunch time and figured I’d take the plunge!
It was a balmy 10 degrees out with the wind chill and I was hungry!
The bun was steamed to perfection. Cheese placement was nice but they put way too much sauce on. I scraped it off with some of my French Fries which actually worked out well. I’m not a big fan of fried fish but it was actually VERY good!

I have a sauce problem. For me there is no such thing as too much sauce.

Talk about a saucy comment!
It's been the suggestion that all lesser fish sandwiches should be lumped together in some other thread.
Perhaps titled "I Wish I Was a Fillet O' Fish".

That's a great looking FOF.
Only minor nitpick is the blemished top bun...it looks like it stuck to the cardboard container a wee bit.
I watched an episode of the Chase on TV and a question was which Mcdonalds sandwich has a bun thats steamed not toasted ? Boy was my Family amazed at my correct answer.
Here's one with the diced onions mod. The diced onions blend well with the tartar's texture and don't have as strong an onion taste as the silvered onions, resulting in a onion flavor that only complements the other flavors instead of overshadowing them.

looks good but your toasted 7.0
Quoted from Sinistarrett:Secret inside info regarding the construction of a FOF!
I love that is says the breading may come off “if the fillet is treated badly” LOL
[quoted image]
McDonalds needs to hold team meetings and review this as a Quick Reference Card. Every FOF going forward should be rated 9 and up based on these clear instructions!
Not sure presentation is as important to the teenager getting splattered with hot oil and smelling the fryer all day as it is to us customers.
Nice find though.
Dang they even go into granular detail regarding the application of salt to the filet!
Lots of care and attention to detail right there.
Quoted from Sinistarrett:Page 2 of the secret document, complete with tartar sauce ingredients

That must be really old like the 1960's. I started at McD's in 1976 and worked thru high school and then college. Salt was never applied to the FOF ever in my era. I worked at 6 different locations over the years and was a training coordinator and assistant manager and did 2 weeks at Hamburger University (yeah that's a real thing) in Oak Brook Illinois in the early 80's.
I remember filing the sauce tubes. It sucked. Taking tarter sauce out of a gallon cardboard container and filling plastic tubes.
I was driving through town this morning (20 mins away from home) to pick up a new boat and it was 10.15 when i left. No FoF till 10.30am
Spewing, we need an all day fish option Mickey!

That close to the lunch menu if you were in the drive thru and said "Ok I'll wait here", they'd of dropped one in the fryer ASAP.
Quoted from tomdrum:Still have the 40 year old tie.

I’m betting if I wore a suite into a Mc Donald’s and wore that tie they would make me the quintessentially perfect Filet-O-Fish

Not a drive through guy i have to say. Nor do i use self service checkouts.
Red-ragger unionist till the day i die and extremely pro jobs. Plus it's quicker to get out and walk into the store, and i don't eat in the car so have to step out anyway.

Payment info sent. Best to do that now before you sober up. Make me eat my 1st FOF in 2 years. In fact, I'll order a double. 2 patties on one bun. Challange accepted?

I’m going to rock a suite and wear this tie next time I order a FOF and demand they make it perfect.
Will report back.

Get your wife to do it and if we hear her talking to herself about how fucking stupid this is to amuse a bunch of old men on an internet site, you win the internet.
