Slightly off-topic question for everyone: I have a CPR white-top Centaur playfield (all bare wood screened white). Do you guys think it would look good with white rails, or should I stick to black? I'm not normally a color change kinda guy, but I thought a special playfield might justify special rails.
Quoted from TaylorVA:the disorganized business model that I run
As pinball businesses go, you're freakin' Amazon.
Quoted from TaylorVA:there may be some pricing adjustments as material pricing has gone up.
With all due respect to your customers, charge more! You work your ass off, deliver a better-than-new quality product, and price certainly isn't a deterrent at this point.
Quoted from TaylorVA:I have had issues in the past where some paper stuck to the rails. There doesn’t seem to be a reason for when it does. Someone suggested it could be the porousness of the paper I used. I did some research on shipping lacquered boxes and wax paper was suggested.
Now THAT is how you respond to customer feedback on a quality/delivery issue. Very minor issue, but still.
Quoted from TaylorVA:I think I need to scale back the workload. Over the next month I will do my best to figure out how to do that.
"Double the price!" I say like an idiot who will probably order Reese Rails in the future.
It's amazing how many people are restoring games these days. That photo above, just one batch of one specialized part from a single DIY seller. Imagine how many games are being ripped part and resurrected this month, this year, this decade. I remember when (old man voice) the hobby was so small, there were fewer RGP regulars than rails on that workbench. Pretty cool to see where it is now. Huge thanks to Taylor for his podcasting, part making, and posting contributions to the hobby.
Quoted from TaylorVA:And yeah, my wife parked her car in my shop. Wtf?
I think she wants a blue car. Surprise her.
Nice back view of the house. I've seen pictures of your various home projects, but never the whole enchilada. Definitely something to be proud of. I'm satisfied, and I didn't even do the work!
Just wanted to chime in to say I never get tired of the sawdust, stain & lacquer of this thread. Who would've thought rails could be so satisfying? Thanks for sharing your process, and enjoy that much deserved summer vacation.
Quoted from Dono:contemplating ordering something similar for my CPR Old Chicago PF... now to decide on color/shade combo.
Turquoise! Might be hard to match the playfield hue exactly, but would be sweet. Not to mention unique.
I certainly don't speak for Taylor, but he is alive & well. Maybe folks should pay a bit more attention to this thread's title.
Quoted from kclements:Sure seems like he was making rails not to long ago despite the threads title?
I know, but if he isn’t replying, maybe take a hint?
Quoted from Atari_Daze:Getting worried about Taylor,
I'm acquainted with Taylor via social media, suffice it to say he's doing fine.
He typically takes the summer off for family, and because humidity prevents lacquering/finishing. Maybe he'll pop back up this fall.
Taylor posted that image 21 months ago indicating he's no longer using facebook for communication. Hopefully he'll return to the rail business someday after a much-deserved break.
