Mathazar Thanka, a link to order shirts is posted below. I’m working with a local print shop to do on demand shirts.
I have contacted everyone with totals and tracking info for the sets that went out today.
Rails in the shop going out Monday are the following:
Banzai Run
HS
Sorcerer(single)
Meteor(purple/blue)
IJ
Wh20(blue)
LOTR(dark purple)
I’m working on same backboards and a set of rails for TZ and then I’m all caught up.
Had someone comment on pricing on this latest batch, I have zero issue with them bringing it up, and I just want to say that despite all my effort to keep my pricing down the cost of materials has risen across the board as well as shipping costs.
-
Most, if not all, of the increases are due to shipping: I had to increase insurance coverage as rails were getting lost or damaged and just that is an additional $2-4 dollars per order.
Just wanted to clear the air on that if anyone felt blindsided by this recent batch.
Thanks as always for the support and good luck on all the projects you are all working on.
Have a great weekend, I think I’m going to take a break from my phone.
-Taylor
Quoted from T3quila:How much do they actually cost? I'm apparently blind and can't find it...
Standard sets like AFM or TAF are $65 and then it goes up from there. A set like Centaur or other classics are about $10-20 more as they require more raw material or time to make because of light scallops or tapered slots. On top of that I charge actual shipping cost which include: shipping material(tubes), insurance and postage.
Quoted from cosmokramer:The price I paid for my set of FH rails was well below the quality of the parts I received.
Prices are up on everything, nothing you can do about it.
Enjoy your weekend!
Oh yeah, and to be clear I didn’t think the person was complaining as much as just remarking on the cost increase.
Quoted from yancy:Dirt effing cheap considering the amount of labor and level of craftsmanship. Asset to the hobby.
Heck even dirt is getting expensive!
The rails are well worth it imo.
I have no issue with paying you for your time, materials and craftsmanship. Thanks to you, all of our restoration projects get that much closer to completion. Looking forward to receiving my works of art, my EATPM deserves the best. Thanks again Taylor, and I’d totally be down to sport your swag!!

You need to do a shirt that says “Closed for new orders since 20xx.”

Quoted from Pin-Pilot:What are the preferred temps and humidity?
Since you asked….
Humidity has to be under 70% or you get blushing*. Temp is mostly about dew point, you want your dew point to be 20 points under your temp or blushing can occur.
Temp will affect how lacquer sprays and drys; too hot and overspray will be more apparent as the earlier coat has already dried, too cold and it will want to run. In the best of worlds I would take 40%RH with 70F everyday of the week.
-
*blushing is when moisture gets trapped by lacquer and will give a milky look to the finish. When this happens you have to sand all the finish off and start over. I don’t risk the work to undo a case of it so just avoid it by really watching the conditions.

Thanks for the explanation.
Quoted from Pin-Pilot:Thanks for the explanation.
No problem, it’s the main reason I started shutting down during the summers. Way too much time was spent refinishing rails that experienced blushing.

Great painting weather here in Phoenix.
Those were my Meteor rails with the custom color(deep purple) and they came out amazing. Thanks again!
I’ve been making frames since I was in art school in 1990. I worked for a conservation framer in ‘97 outside Charlottesville, VA and still make an occasional frame. I make the frames out of poplar and generally stick to a classic gallery profile. This is a piece I finished for my daughter today. 7BC3DAAC-BB27-4518-B0AC-07FE6F12A9CF (resized).jpeg

And in case you were wondering, I do play pinball daily. Current modern lineup…7F195057-0DB3-4ABB-8C8A-68582A67D453 (resized).jpeg
Quoted from TaylorVA:Calling these done. Up close they aren’t perfect, but in the back of a game covered up with shit they will look great.

Looks way better than whatever I would produce.
Quoted from Elicash:I would love a set of Whirlwind rails and a back board. Can I get on the list?
I have the rails, but backboard would need to be sent in. My library for backboards is really limited.
-
Please send me a message with game in the title and shipping info. Whirlwind is $70+actual shipping.
Rain day tomorrow so finish is on hold, but hope to work on a set for TAF and MM that came in and get those ready for finishing next week.
Quick updates on rails and HS backboard that were ordered this week…

Original pen and ink by Jurassic Park artist Johnny Crap. This was done for inktober. I’ve been collecting pinball art and paraphernalia since I’ve been in the hobby. I’ll dig some pieces up and post this weekend.
