Just wanted to chime in to say I never get tired of the sawdust, stain & lacquer of this thread. Who would've thought rails could be so satisfying? Thanks for sharing your process, and enjoy that much deserved summer vacation.

Thanks as always for the kind words.
Just a quick update on this last batch.
SGx2, HS, FT and EATPM have all had 4-5 coats of lacquer and should get final coat(s) tommorow.
Skateball and a Viking rail were dyed as was a backboard for Wh20 and a backboard for HS has had a couple coats of black lacquer.

I’ll definitely be back.
Quoted from pinballinreno:Custom work, custom color?
Perfect fit?
Exceptional craftsmanship?
Fast turn around times?
The price of lumber is through the roof?
The value of the dollar is in the toilet, minimum wage is doubling.
Personally I think your prices are too low.
I would expect $99 plus shipping for most of the rails would be about right.
And this would be a bargain.
what he said!
I would not imagine any of my PF swap without a set of Reese rails in them!

Thanks Germain, I have really appreciated your business over the years. I get a lot of love from the West Coast. Your Addams cabinet plug is still one of the most memorable things I’ve made for anyone.
First I would like to mention that I got today also great Funhouse and Taxi rails, but in this post I would like to show how my Bally Power Play rails that I ordered look like. Since there were no templates available these have not been predrilled. The tapered slots are there. I really like how these rails look like. I had never measured anything in inches and feets before... If you think it does not look great the reason is my man cave lights!
My Bally Power Play setup in these pictures is:
- Two old cabinets
- One old backbox
- One new backglass
- One old populated playfield
- One new playfield

haha that's right, that was a fun one, turned out great (you know not HEP great but the cabinet looks good now).
i have bought a few tools now so i haven't had to bother you with other old ball request like new cabinet and head bottom for my Nine Ball barn find Best avoid getting more busy than you already are.
Trying to not obsess about backboards is a problem for me. The reality is that most of them are never seen so aiming for perfection is not a goal I strive for, but I definitely want them to look nice.
Here is what is in my shop curing and will wrap up this last batch.
I do have sets for TZ, Scared Stiff and Wh20(blue) for sale and ready to ship.

They all look fantastic! Great work.
Couple sets for High_End_Pins
Got these all sanded and ready to ship today.
Chris- Cant say thank you enough for the support over the last 13+ years. Beers on me next time we cross paths.

Backboards have been shipped.
Had a straggler and made up a set of Quicksilver rails before the humidity doors flew open in VA. E114C59B-8476-42FB-ADBC-7FA9267D85A6 (resized).jpeg
Also....USPS is awful right now and more sets have been lost this year than over the last 15 combined, this lead to a quick turnaround on these Metallica rails for an ongoing project. 170BBC2F-6944-4262-9C38-3F3801EC7CD7 (resized).jpeg
These will both ship this week.

Thank you for getting those Metallica rails done for me. I’m excited to get them.
If you find yourself taking orders again within the next month or two, I'd be in for a Mata Hari set in red. I'm half-way through a restoration now.
Quoted from Pinball_Basement:Do you have a list of the backboards you have templates for?
Ill update my list this summer. I don’t have many, and not sure what one of them is, but I think it might be TZ. Several I’ve made have been done via customer drawings.
OutlawTorn304 damn man, looks great. Thank you for sharing the pics. Cheers -Taylor
Taylor - are you still taking in rails for measurement? I have a Big Guns I'm taking apart (and rebuilding).
Quoted from alexmogil:Taylor - are you still taking in rails for measurement? I have a Big Guns I'm taking apart (and rebuilding).
I can take them, but the humidity is really going to hinder any finishing on my end. I will do raw rails for someone in a pinch and do this with HEP as Chris is always painting so is set up to deal with the mid-Atlantic weather.
Next 5 to post a pic of their favorite canned beverage get a free beer coozie.

I don't want rails, I just want to let you borrow them to you to measure so you have a set.

Thanks man. If you want to send them it would be appreciated.

Hot Damn! Love them. Thanks again.

That purple turned out great. I used a different dye combination this time with a more redder base, I think it really helped make it more vibrant.

Quoted from Enchantress:Hey Taylor inquiring whether you might have a set of rails available for an EATPM? Cheers
I don’t have anything ready to go and the humidity is relentless right now for making new sets.
Quoted from FlippyD:Have some rail needs brewing. Is Taylor closed for the summer right now?
I hope he's back soon! I got my pre-summer orders in and delivered to me just in time (Mata Hari and Black Knight) but I unexpectedly picked up a project Meteor a few weeks ago. I'm now in the middle of a full teardown/playfield swap/repaint and would love to replace the rails in this, too.
Taylor do you by chance have a waiting/request list that I could get on now for when you get back into production?
Quoted from Enchantress:Taylor do you by chance have a waiting/request list that I could get on now for when you get back into production?
Me too - I'd love to get in a queue if you have one. Meteor, black.
Just checking in to say hello and to let folks know I will be doing a very limited run of rails starting at the beginning of September. During the summer I was able to acquire enough stock to make around 15 sets of rails. I may be able to do more, but it really depends on titles as some take up more material than others.
Covid has continued to be an issue with getting decent material, hopefully at some point that changes, but for now it is what I'm dealing with. I will continue to try to hunt down material when I can.
I will go through my emails and this thread over the next week and reach out to people who have inquired about getting some rails made.
Please don't flood me with emails, I have a lot to go through as it is and will post here when I can accept new orders.
I did have a great summer, but look forward to getting back in the shop.
