Quoted from phillymadison:Here they are 10 for 20.03 if you use the mobile app http://www.aliexpress.com/item/10PCS-FM1608-120-PG-FM1608-120-P-DIP/32526541906.html
Just want to make sure. When using these with system 11c and b boards, you move the resistor from W5 to W6. Replace and add a 28 pin socket to U25 and plug one of these in correct?
So $2 each now, dam..... Now I feel like I got burnt on the $6 ones lol...
Well my $2 Aliexpress Nvrams arrived! Same as everyone else, plastic wrapped stack. All the same, look brand new to me, and two week shipping from China during the holidays... Not too shabby!
Quoted from CactusJack:There is certainly a lot of value in pre-tested chips being shipped promptly from a US seller! Do you really want to wait 49 days to receive something questionable from China?
Mine took two weeks, 10 for $20..All tested fine. I just said screw it and took a shot, turned out good.
For $20 shipped for 10 there is little risk....Zero issues with any of mine (one tested "bad" but worked fine in machine. All looked brand new with zero pin issues. It's a no brainier, if you want to save money on overpriced Nvrams Aliexpress is the way to go!
For all of those who find chips that "test bad", have you tried them in a game? I ask because I had three "test bad" on another order and they work fine in the machines, zero issues for months now...
Quoted from Nihonmasa:Quick question here, what are the tips to desolder the RAM?
Have a desoldering gun, tried, but ended up damaging traces anyway
Like he said....cut the pins of old ic (Dremel cuts like butter),desolder pins, wick or desolder gun to clear solder....I've done all of mine...no issues.....Damn, year old resurrection posts lol
Quoted from Robotworkshop:I prefer to use lead trimming pliers. If you slip with the dremel you can damage the board and traces.
If you slip with anything you risk damage to board/trace, but unless you're ten beers deep, it hard to slip with a Dremel cutting legs. I've used my precise snips as well, but found sometimes they cause more harm than good.
Quoted from Robotworkshop:True. I all boils down to what you're comfortable with and what works good for you. I just prefer the lead cutters since that does work better for me. I had used the dremel in the past on a surface mount board and did slip. Luckily it was on a non pinball prototype board and I was able to fix it. That is when I knew that method wasn't for me...
To be honest, I used the Dremel method three times I believe...gave me zero issues, and yes, butter... I have used the close cut precision cutters for the rest, bought one of the most recommend brands...dulled out fast ..have a few dull pairs now. One instance during a cut it twisted the leg and ripped out the pad...sucked....so Dremel it was. If it works, go for it, it's not my profession, if I F it up it's on me.
I just use a chainsaw and a blowtorch....Key is to have at least three Heady Toppers first. Looks professional when finished, every time.
No one buys from Aliexpress anymore?
Quoted from Johno75:Has anybody got a good/trusted ebay source/link for cheap nvram 6264? i want to put one in my Sega Goldeneye and I believe it's just plug and play by popping out the old chip and putting the nvram 6264 in so looking for a cheap source of them. Thanks
Grab some on Aliexpress, they are a little over a buck shipped.
