Working on my Nugent. The upper right drop targets won’t reset. I have 20 volts on each side of the coil. Plunger is free and clean. With machine off I test across the coil, but have no continuity. What should I check next? Am I even checking this correctly?

Do a switch test to be sure the drop target switches are registering.

Do they fail to reset in coil test or at game start/ball serve, if so then it isn't the switches. Sure sounds like the coil is open, you should be getting continuity across the lugs.

When it’s in the self test mode the left bank resets itself but there is no response when it’s time to reset the right bank. There is no continuity between the lugs. I checked other coils and have continuity. Coil looks relatively new with no burn marks on it.

What about in a game at the start of a new ball? If it resets then too, I agree, it’s the switches, not the coil.

The coil is definitely open then, either inside the windings or a broken/loose winding wire connection at the lugs. I goofed the wiring when I was installing a brand new flipper coil once and blew it open, it still looked brand new so you can't necessarily tell by the outer appearance.

No it will not reset itself when it calls for a new ball

But it resets in test mode? That’s very odd.

No, looks like he said the right bank is *not* resetting in test mode either, only the left is.

Ah. Okay then we’re back to normal testing.

If it’s getting power test the associated transistor.

If that’s good test the ohms of the coil and make sure it’s in spec. Test the coil diode too.

I had the same problem with my left drop bank on Nugent. It turned out the contacts on the targets just needed a good cleaning. It wasn't registering when they were all down.

Thankyou I will check that. My concern is the lack of continuity. The other coils have continuity.

Swap the good coil from the other bank. That’s an easy test too.
