We tried to use Pi4's for satellite data simulators using custom made 'hats'. These work quite nicely using the built in's such as video, Eth, USB, etc.
But anything that goes through the GPIO is pathetically slow no matter which OS is used. Had to resort to a lot of custom driver mods just to get to a point where we're almost usable. I cannot see these as a possibility in their current state.
