I have seen many techniques for installing lighted flipper buttons. Although they all produce excellent results, I decided to try something different tonight. I'm not saying this novel approach is better or worse, just wanted to share my results. Note, this is just a draft document. I can include more detail if there is any interest. All in all, it worked really well.

Step 1: Cut/Dremel a small slot into the bottom of a transparent flipper button (note: I purchased mine from Pinball Life).

Step 2: Insert a mini led into the bottom of the flipper button (note: I used 3mm leds that I purchased from RadioShack)

    20150103_204121.jpg20150103_204121.jpg

Step 3: Insert some heat shrink tubing to cover the longest lead (trim to fit) and bend the leads into the grooves you cut in Step 1

    20150103_205052.jpg20150103_205052.jpg

Step 4: Solder speaker wire to each lead and cover with heat shrink tubing. Repeat for both flipper buttons (note: make sure to cut speaker wires to correct lengths for each button)

Step 5: Install flipper into each side of machine.

Step 6: Make a Molex connector that can connect into the coin door board (+12V/Ground). (note: make sure to put in the proper in-line resistor for the leds)

    20150103_214541.jpg20150103_214541.jpg

Step 7: Enjoy your new lighted flipper buttons.

I like- simple, easy, works... probably 2.50 cost.. if you have a dremel tool....

Would you estimate about 30-45 minutes to do this? Probably a lot more for your first try.. but with a map- that you provided... what would you guess.

It took me a couple hours but i was figuring it out as I went along. My guess would be an hour if you are proficient at modding stuff.

Clean and simple, very nice. Cheap too.

Cool mod, I might try this in the future.

Do you put the little o-ring around your flipper button plunger piece? I didn't see it in the pic. I'm not sure where I first saw it, but I've been doing it to all the aftermarket flipper buttons I've bought, I think it makes them feel so much smoother with the shorter travel.

It's hard to describe, but it's like the right one in this pic: (you can barely see the black o-ring, ignore the button sizes, its a pic I found on google)

Maybe vid or someone can chime in on the o-ring on the plunger piece.

Hmmmmmm.....never knew there where rubber rings around the plunger piece. Just make sure you run the led wire through the rubber ring before hooking it all up.

I'm not sure if they are supposed to be there or not, I'm hoping someone who knows will chime in.
