Looking for opinions on whether this pf, billed as Williams NOS, is that. The question arises due to the registration marks in all 4 corners; the Weber pf marking on the side; and the excess glue or paint in a number of non important locations . See first picture. Thanks!!

ForceFlow - I’m not sure this confirms it is NOS. Weber supplied CPR and perhaps IPB. They are just the plywood supplier.

Take a look at the 4 registration marks in the 4 corners. That is, the 4 small circles with the cross-hairs. The only pictures I have seen that had those are IPB playfields. Neither of the older playfield I have, taken out of stock machines, has these marking.

I remain uncertain and desirous of more input. Thanks.

Almost looks reproduction to me. The instruments look funny, like there too dark or blurry or something......?
If it's NOS it was probably pulled from the assembly line because of that or something else.

A NOS weber marked playfield:

https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/attack-from-mars-nos-playfield-not-a-reproduction

Although from what I'm reading, weber did make playfield blanks past the WPC era.

What does the rest of the stamping on the edge of your playfield say? It looks like weber stamped a date on the edge as well as the name and measurements.

Many "nos" parts were rejected from going on the line due to quality issues.

Could also be one that was sold for spare parts

I recently picked up a NOS TAF gold that has similar markings and registration marks

Are you sure about that? You know bally Williams did manufacture some items to keep around and sell for spare parts.

They made extra, for the most part the best ones went into games no different than CPR some are nicer than others. Every nos playfield or backglass still floating around ("wall hangers") that I've seen has some defect but some so small wouldn't be noticed. As far as NOS vs. repro personally I'd take nos unless it had a glaring defect. You can find flaw in most everything if you look long enough.

There were a lot of “seconds” back in that time, that may be what you have.

Ahhh that makes sense thanks. Agree unless something is glaring I would take NOS too. Hence why I bought this one

Bump to refill us on the original post and pictures. NOS or repro. I can attest that the color palette, in person, is spot on.

I am particularly interested in the registration marks as I have only seen them on photos of IPB repros of MB. MMR61184’s AF playfield is the only contraindication.

Anyone have confirming knowledge one way or another ??????

One thing I did not see on the MB in the pics is manufactures initials after the part number like TAG, SP or LS but I can’t say I am an expert in later model games so that could mean nothing too. If you can get Chris from HEP to look at the pics he may be able to help out he’s seen everything

Depending on the printer, all fields could have registration marks. My sample TZ has registration marks. This isn't a factor of when it was made, but who did it.

Only a couple printers had initials added. Usually it was done in the art department at WMS, because different printers needed different types of files (or different color layers, or .. and so on.)

My original MB playfield has the registration marks under the apron. I just shopped the game out last week and saw them.

OK - so I thought owed the forum closure not his.

I received differing opinions but cam to the conclusion that it was probably NOS - UNTIL - looking at the comparison of a MB repro to an HSA restoration on the HSA website I saw the comparison of the more purple Full Moon Fever inserts on the repro he was showing to the more blue ones on his rest.

I was convinced this was the smoking gun and sent an email to the seller with this "definitive" data!

Less than 5 minutes later I received the following email from a very thoughtful, thorough and knowledgeable Brian ( I will note in my defense that I don't know Brian; sent this a few hours before; and had no idea if he'd respond):

"I did look at your picture link. That playfield is an original. The IPB ones have a different lagoon cutout and does not have frosted inserts. Both Williams and IPB used 'Weber' wood. Your playfield has factory looking mylar on it. IPB never installed mylar on their reproduction MB playfields. Some original MB playfields have different colors of blue and purple so the colors on your NOS playfield do match up to some of the Williams MB playfields in my database. I have a lot more pictures of MB playfields (both IPB and originals) on my computer than what is shown on my website that I can use as an reference. The registration silkscreen marks do appear on some of the original MB playfields. I usually sand the lower ones off when I do a restoration.

Mirco also made MB reproduction playfields and those are easy to ID."

BTW - I attached the picture that compared the inserts. The one on the left is upside down and the NOS(more purple) and the one on the right is my original.

Hope this helps others in the future

Nice, NOS playfield. One nice thing about the NOS playfield is that you can still buy the green lagoon plastic (and it fits)! I think the original plastic fits the Mirco repro too, but doesn't fit the IPB repro.
