It's the 2004 reproduction by HalifaxPinball.

Just for future PinSide reference, I'll attach the comparative graphic we used back in 2009 when CPR did an updated re-run where we changed/corrected/improved a bunch of things. We put this graphic out in rec.games.pinball in 2009 (and on our site) to give folks the differences to look for if they ever had to determine what they were looking at (on Craigslist, Ebay, etc).

In text format, here are the differences that identify both:

(2004) 11-ply 1/2" baltic birch plywood vs. (2009) 7-ply 17/32" genuine Weber gameboard wood.
(2004) pre-production (wrong) text around 3 inserts vs. (2009) corrected/production text
(2004) crosshairs at top two corners and on apron vs. (2009) no crosshairs
(2004) greenish hues in the blues vs. (2009) correct lab-mixed Pantones for the blues
(2004) single coat of gloss overprint, no clearcoat vs. (2009) 5-layer automotive poly clearcoated
(2004) inserts have vertical sanding lines vs. (2009) all inserts polished, crystal clear

Fathom 2004 vs 2009-433.jpgFathom 2004 vs 2009-433.jpg

Specific text differences:
1. Blue arrow at mermaid tail
2. Green round above shark's nose
3. Blue round below shark's fins

Hope this helps.

Quoted from Gatecrasher:

A big difference is that the Halifax playfield has the lamp holes drilled to the correct size. The CPR lamp holes are too small and need to be opened-up..

Not entirely true if context is explained. Everything programmed for the CNC is quintuple-rechecked by test cuts, tweaks, then repeated comparison to the sample original that came out of a game. With a micrometer. To the thousanth of an inch.

What you are describing are exactly correct lamp holes + catching the thru-spray of 5 coats of poly during the clearcoating sessions. Slightly closing them in via swollen grain by a couple hundredths of an inch. Depending on the lamp sockets, sometimes the edges inside the holes needed to be buzzed clean to bare wood, with a Dremel. But not the hole in the actual wood physically routed bigger.

At some point, on a later run, we made it a new thing to intentionally add diameter to lamp holes to compensate for the clearcoat later on.

Quoted from Gatecrasher:

The more obvious differences though are seen from the backside.
Anyone can see them at a glance without even trying.

There are pop bumper recesses on the back of the 2009's. They weren't needed on the 2004's as far as I know.

Also, the grey enamel color on the backside were slightly different between the two.

Those are factors to help identify for sure, but I think seeing the crosshairs on the front (or not) instantly identifies both.
